In corp mercs when you shoot through friendly mobs your accuracy goes to shit and the bullet has almost no chance to hit anything. Maybe for each friendly mob the rifle round passes through it could become less accurate?

    1 marine: no debuff
    2 marines: very minor penalty
    3 marines: major penalty
4 marines: 0 chance to hit anything

Well with the removal of the IFF scope from mini sniper kit, its now pretty much useless.

A pulse rifle is infinitely better than the battle rifle, the only thing that made the BR good was IFF and now its in very limited amounts in req.

With IFF gone the battlerifle has become yet another noob trap in a long list of CM noob traps.

It'll still be crap, but if you increase the magazine size to 25 (40 extended) and add a bipod to the marksman kit instead of the suppressor, it'll at least be less of a waste of space than it is currently.

Make it Bolt-Action and greatly increase AP and moderately DMG. That would be even more specialised.

So I tried it with new patch with QFA/Extended Barrel + AP Mag and Light armor.
You can literally run down a T1 xeno and decimate them, it's like stupid fast semi auto firing and they wont know what hit them, like seriously forget the IFF scope, use this combination instead.

I am imagining pressing the unique-action button a lot...

Honestly before the IFF scope was limited to Req, the L41A played a vital role in the Marine arsenal: it let Marines actually have a counter against those runners that deliberately run into a swarm of Marines to cause a massive friendly fire situation.

Before the gun was added, you basically had to either let the smartgunner (if they were still alive) shoot pointlessly at the Runners as they evaded the SG's every attempt to kill them or just open fire and pray you didn't kill someone.

Now? The M41A (as far as I know) does more damage than the L41A, can accept more attachments than the L41A, and, perhaps most concerningly, is better as a discount sniper rifle than the L41A. As a gun, the Battle Rifle came across as something that would naturally be superior than the M41A at long ranges, but, well... Other than the fact it apparently has zero damage falloff over range, the L41A has nothing about it that the M41A can't be modified to be better at via attachments. It sounds amazing, but you're probably only going to see it on the FOB where nobody's able to be shot in the back by it.

IMO the battle rifle is a situational weapon which fills a niche the marines desperately needed, a decent weapon you can chase retreating xenoes with.

Normally when a xeno gets shot a couple times and retreats, none of the standard weapons were decent enough to close the gap. The M39 wasn't accurate at 7-8 tiles and suffered from scatter, and both the shotgun and M41A slow you down if you wield them, so either you have to sprint to the xeno and try and pointblank them with a shotgun onehanded or try and spam your rifle offscreen to hit the xeno. With the battle rifle you don't have to worry about any of that, with being able to run at full speed while wielding, no damage falloff and decent accuracy at 7-8 tiles and little scatter, you can keep shooting and chasing that xeno.

That's not to say this rifle is perfect, both the shotgun as well as the rifle are better at 2-3 tile range (possibly the M39 as well, but I'm biased against the tickle gun) and the rifle is better at the 4-6 tile range with it's burst. The battle rifle is sucky in defensive situations (AKA defending barricades) where you'll often be encountering xenoes in those ranges, but good in offensive situations where you want to run at full speed and still be able to hit a xeno at 5-6 tile range without having to worry about wield delay, in a ideal situation stacking on damage as that xeno retreats.

TL;DR battle rifle good for chasing down (injured) xenoes, bad in most other situations. Consider comboing it with other weapons, switching to the battle rifle if the xeno decides to retreat after being shot at by you or other marines.

Not more than you have to pump shotgun. It would work as long range Slug that doesn't stun, but takes a chunk of Dmg, instead of "pew pew" where you have to have mass of marines shooting.

Now I think about it it actually feels less like a battle rifle and more like a designated marksmen rifle.
