Post The Soviet Socialist Republic of the Soyuz Megapolisov (River Potemkin's homeworld)

The Soviet Socialist Republic of the Soyuz Megapolisov (SSRSM) is a planet that started off as a UPP world near the core of the galaxy, specializing in petrochemical and uranium mining. Originally it was a simple resource world due to the incredibly harsh nature of the planet, where one side was a permanent jungle with a desert in the center and the other was a permanent winter wasteland. Now the planet slowly rotates, leaving a deserted strip in equator that freezes over as it turns. The jungles slowly creep onto the newly thawed territory, spreading onto the decomposing husks of the once-frozen jungles of the past as the other side freezes over and dies off to become food for the next cycle.

Originally the world today known as "The SSRSM" was known as "Exeter 194" in Weyland-Yutani survey logs, and is still referred to that way by most factions who don't accept the SSRSM's claim to being a sovereign government.

Over the past few decade, the planet experienced a series of typhoons as a result of botched terraforming and so refused to contribute resources to the UPP as it had in the past, needing the resources for rebuilding and blaming the UPP technicians for the failure of their terraforming equipment which had not taken into account the unusual nature of the planet's climate.

As a result of the failed terraforming, Exeter 194 is no longer tidally locked to it's sun, but instead makes a full rotation at a rate of once every 30.2 years, meaning that the climate of any particular city is subject to radical changes. As a result, cities on Exeter 194 are heavily built and designed to be sealed up to whether the long harsh winters. Cities in the summer, spring, and fall seasons contribute part of their own resources to keep the winterized cities alive. Winterized cities also have their own greenhouses, but these are not enough to sustain them through an entire winter.

The UPP originally tried to relieve the local Soviet of command by sending a small counter-intelligence unit to arrest them, but they disappeared without a trace and the SSRSM claims to have no idea what may have happened to them. Further attempts by the UPP to reclaim the planet have included infiltration of dissident groups and attempts to provoke a revolution, including several attempted assassinations against the leadership of the planet.

As a result of continued hostility by the UPP, and gradual diverging of ideology from the UPP mainline ideologues, the SSRSM reached out to the Independent Core Systems Colonies and became an active member, contributing taxes to them now that the rebuilding had been completed. Although this infuriated the UPP and lead to the SSRSM being criticized as "Counter-Revolutionary", the SSRSM has replied by labelling the UPP as "Revisionist elements external to the party who have attempted to corrupt the revolution"

Although the SSRSM is communist, it has been politically convenient for them to remain aligned with the ICSC, which has in turn provided a gateway for relations with the other factions. The only factions that refer to the SSRSM by it's proper name instead of "Exeter 194" are the ICSC and the United Americas.

The SSRSM has been extremely active in international intelligence sharing, military exercises, and officer exchange programs, with a fanatical focus on the UPP who are seen as traitors and mortal enemies of the Republic. The SSRSM has also been known to take active measures against corporate governments, encouraging anti-capitalist ideology on outside worlds, but stopping short of providing any material aid to rebellious movements for fear of provoking a response from the greater ICSC or the UA, who both serve as it's ironic protectors against the UPP.
