Experience
How familiar are you with command positions? At the time of this posting
- 40 Hours in Synthetic [I'm including this because I've had to do OW and the sort as it, plus it's relevant with the massive flood of information]
- 30.3 Hours of XO
- 20 Hours SO
- 15 Hours SL
- 2 hours doing OW as Synthvivor on Chance's Claim
- 10 hours as RO
- 8 hours as CE
- 3 as CMO
- 12 Hours as Queen.
While queen might not be a marine command position, it is still definitely a command role and 100% can be attributed to making myself a better CiC player by giving myself a better understanding of both side's perspective.
I like to think I have a pretty good perspective on all things command - I've done commanding in the weird situations, such as ACO plenty of times. I've played department heads, I have some MP hours to understand ML. All that, I can operate all 4 squads OW comfortably. Coordinates OB, supply drop, etc.
I also, more esoterically, am pretty experienced with all the ID machines and their ins-and-outs. Which is another part of command. I'm pretty confident I've handled all types of weird situations that I'd run into as CO. From ID, IFF, OW, SLing, etc and appeals.
Approximately how many hours do you have as Executive Officer (XO) at the time of writing this application? 30.3 hours.
Approximately how many hours do you have as Squad Leader at the time of writing this application? 15 hours.
Basic Questions & Story
Why did your character decide to become the CO of a ship? I haven't written Silva as having specifically enlisted or joining up with the goal of becoming an officer, or Major specifically, as I don't really think that fits her character.
As many within our day, I wrote her as having simply enlisted out of high school due to a lack of real direction in life. Without any real guidance, she gravitated towards the USCM and happened to enlist before the Canton conflict - The war between the UA and UPP roughly 2 decades before the Almayer responds to a distress signal in the Neorid sector.
With Silva having enlisted at the time of the Canton war, I feel like it's reasonable for the impression that's been noted to occur with many real veterans to be left on her, that there really isn't anything to return to civilian life that would ever be as meaningful as what she's done in the military. So, with a mix of that, and frustration with officers during the Canton conflict, she started to gravitate towards being an officer.
Sometime during her career as a company captain later on in life she gets looking forward towards trying her own hand at running a vessel, after having served as an executive officer on the company and battalion level.
How did your character attain the position of CO? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing
This has some bio stuff written in it - About 4 or 5 pages iirc. More or less though, the TLDR is they were an enlistedmen during the Canton war, a previous conflict between the UA and UPP. With De Silva spending the war as an enlistedmen before filling out an OCS packet and being accepted after the war - Mostly then working in marine intelligence due to her enlisted background and later working on peacekeeping operations between the UA and TWE / UA and UPP.
So more or less. Having the mix of 'luck' to have enlisted during a long, major conflict, and simply raw experience with around 2 decades behind her prior to being promoted.

Scenarios
When do you believe it’s appropriate to pardon a prisoner? Give an example. Pardons are something I think I'd rarely ever use as De Silva - As a fundamental core of her character, she's a well disciplined and strict officer of the USCM. It doesn't fit for her to be pardoning offenses, simply due to ideological reasons.
For cases where I'd pardon someone - Firstly, I'd want to see they're stable. Someone rabidly stabbing someone, running away from officers, would pretty much be an instant disqualifier. This is both, again, ideological, and for the fact that after a pardon, if the pardoned individual commits another crime, it's now the CO who gets arrested as well.
There's some other factors I'd like to review, while going through a pardon. If someone's critical to an operation but otherwise trigged, I'd want to know how long their brig timer is. In my eyes, an SL, or specialist, is not critical personnel. You can reset an SL, and I've played so many rounds where marines win despite every specialist getting perma'd at 12:30. Critical, in my eyes, would be personnel that a task or major component of the operation cannot get done without. Examples would be the XO, or other situational cases, being the only medic on low pop and getting arrested.
With both those guiding principles firstly set in place. I'd only issue a pardon if it's a matter of the spirit of the law - As spirit of the law is a loose definition, these are situations where someone has committed a technical violation, but was acting within good faith. By extension, this would apply for situations where it is apparent an MP is acting in bad faith underneath malicious compliance with ML.
By critical to the operation, I've already specified what I consider being critical to the operation. If a medic broke a window, but at the same time, he's the only medic we have, and no one can be revived without him, I'd issue a pardon if it was a crime that didn't bring physical harm to anyone.
When do you believe it’s appropriate to use a Battlefield Execution? Give an example. Battlefield Executions are something that seem extremely important to be done right - As doing it wrong falsely removes a player permanently from the round. There's only a few times, where I could see myself ICly as De Silva escalating to the point of a battlefield execution.
- Someone is posing an imminent and tangible danger onboard the Almayer that risks the physical safety of myself, or other personnel onboard.
- Someone is attempting to incite actions that could lead tangibly to physical harm, such as a marine or CL attempting to invoke a mutiny.
That's my provisions for when I'd use it ship side. I'd like to ideally limit shipside B.E.s as much as possible, both for I.C. reasons, and OOCly - IMO, MPs already struggle plenty with having things to do, I would rather let MPs handle it as CO and not take away from their contribution to a round.
Grounside, it's a bit more of a different situation. In a battle, especially during an active firefight, you don't have the time to usually handle a proper arrest. The times I could see myself administrating a B.E. planet side are only for major offenses that pose a risk to life or undermine the operation
An example, by what I mean, is running across two marines fighting. There isn't the time to arrest both, and if not handled, a situation like that can easily escalate further, plus get more marines killed who try to step in - In a situation like that, I'd step in with a B.E.
Another scenario, would be situations where someone is blatantly undermining the operation, by going against command or myself. For example, an SL gives an order and someone blatantly disobeys it, or starts insulting them over squad radio - I'd step in there with a B.E. in order to preserve the commanding ability of my SL and back them up.
