    Experience

How familiar are you with command positions?
Current Hours as Leadership Roles (as of writing (1/7/2023):

    163 as SL.
    120.9 as XO.
    98.7 as CMP
    41.5 as SO.
    18.9 as CE.
    0 as RO.

I do lack any RO hours, but I justify this by the fact I have spent a lot of those XO hours operating the req while CIC had only a CO, or early during OP start when the RO needed help. I've also operated req a good chunk of my SO hours on behalf of my XO/CO. Almost every XO round, I start with helping req lines, then getting the first supply drop with mats and the mortar out the chute for first drop (if there isn't an SO to tell to do it for me).

The overwhelming amount of leadership hours I have recently accrued has been as CMP. I regularly check with MPs about proper procedure, and have arrested my MPs for breaking the law. I have directed multiple arrest efforts - shipside and ground - and have overseen two legal executions.

Approximately how many hours do you have as Executive Officer (XO) at the time of writing this application?
    120.9 as of writing (1/7/2023).

Approximately how many hours do you have as Squad Leader at the time of writing this application?
    163 as of writing (1/7/2023).

    Basic Questions & Story

Why did your character decide to become the CO of a ship?
They didn't. Their father - Bernard Hange - did. They are a tool of corporate power. They have been trained and manicured to be a direct, controllable line within the military power structure, rather than indirect through bribery.

(Also I didn't really know where to put this, but here is as good as any. When I initially conceived of my XO Nina - when she was a she, not a they, and she had a different last name - it was as a Songbird. I know this isn't entirely the lore anymore, but the point-being is that I wanted more corporate-aligned COs in the mix. I wanted a CO that could be used for unique Weyland-Yutani themed events in interesting ways, as well as give CL's - on the regular rounds - more freedom to act with reckless abandon. In example, recently there was an event where a Senator's ship was attacked by unknown terrorists while aboard a PMC escort. The SS got wind of the senator's location aboard the Almayer. They contested bodyguarding the Senator, saying they had more right to protect him. the Senator was clearly a bumbling idiot not capable of making a decision, so the XO/CO character were supposed to make a value judgment between the non-W-Y PMCs or the SS. My XO character, if they knew who was after the senator, wouldn't have sided with either. I would've found a way to discretely kill the Senator on behalf of W-Y. What's funny is my XO even recommended W-Y services, as clearly the PMC the senator hired had done a terrible job at hiding his location: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...0974/image.png )

How did your character attain the position of CO?
Nina Hange descends from a line of German emigrants that ran from Europe when it fell to the USSR, now UPP. Their family, when in America with extended family in banking in finance, established themselves in the manufacturing sectors within the Great Lake industrial region. Nina Hange's branch in particular - led by Patriarch Bernard - manufactory luxury Weapons for well-to-do citizenry and officers of the United Americas. Hange weapons boast high quality, unique designs that are clad in gold, silvers, and various raiment.

At the age of 14, Hange was taken to be raised on Luna by their father. Here, Nina was positively indoctrinated, manicured, and showered in Luxury. They were educated at Corporate Academies meant for Weyland-Yutani upper management's children. "Hange" the corporation had become one of many corporate partners of Weyland-Yutani, after "Hange" had struck a deal to develop a unique weapon for their private military.

After Nina's education and ideological indoctrination into Technocratic-Corporatism was complete, they were given the objective to infiltrate the outer fleets of HERCULI. Nina, during their military career, would receive posts and commendations from Weyland-Yutani bribed officers to artificially accelerate their military career.

They received commendation after commendation in multiple position in both the first, second, and finally third fleets. All within a military career only spanning 8 years since 31, Hange has made Major. The nature of these commendations are unknown in truth. They range from dubious on one end to reasonably certifiable on the other. It is also notable that the youngest person - outside of Galusha Pennypacker during the civil war - to ever be recommended for, and attained, the rank of Major was 41 at the time. The Major in question, Alfred Gruenther, started his military career at 17.

During Hange's first month stationed in HERCULI, they received a recommendation for promotion on behalf of James Blackbriar - who had recently sustained a head injury - for their actions at "Stone Village" Research Station.

More is explained in the 5 (sorry!) stories.

Provide a short story of your Commanding Officer.
    Scenarios

When do you believe it’s appropriate to pardon a prisoner? Give an example.
Nina has a generalized distaste for the Provost and their military police for what they conceive to be an attempt at Hange's own life at "Stone Village" research station. However, they, more than hate the Provosts, loves themself being alive. Thusly, Hange doesnt care for marines incapable of understanding the basic structure of law and operation they signed up for. Nina is therefor very strict on pardons. They would only pardon if two criteria were met:

    1. MPs failed to follow proper arrest and processing procedure for a Non-violent Minor or Major Crime.

    2. The arrested must not be a repeat offender. If they have repeated the same behavior that got them arrested once, they are a lost cause, generally speaking.

    3. If the crime doesn't match the description of what occured. So essentially false charges or if the criminal was mischarged.

In example, if an MT breaks into Mess's kitchen and refuses to leave. They are arrested wordlessly by an MP without declaring an arrest or what for. The MP when processing fails to tell what the MT is charged with, as well as charges them with Major DTGP, when at most it's minor. In this situation, first time offender who wasn't processed correctly with false charges would be pardoned. The Offending MP would then be arrested for FTFP, Prevarication and NoD. In this case, all 3 criteria for a pardon from Hange were met.

Never capital crimes as that is a direct violation of the CoC.

When do you believe it’s appropriate to use a Battlefield Execution? Give an example.
    1. A marine directly assaults Nina in briefing. Nina is - at heart - a coward. They will defend themselves to the umpteenth degree when physically assaulted whether in public or private.

    2. If a marine, officer, or - God forbid - Military Policeman were to directly threaten death or mutiny. Spoken threats of such high caliber are, to Nina, terminal signs in a human within their pretense. No human changes heart about such threats that heavy within moments - especially the heated ones they usually are generated in. If the physical power structure that maintains Nina's safety is threatened by a member of their crew, they will not hesitate to escalate to violence at the perceived threat.

    3. MPs fail to contain a capital criminal. Upon sight, Nina will use lethal force no matter the code level.

    WELCOME TO THE APPLICATION ZONE

1.) The CO Whitelist has been experimenting with more freer SOP modifications as of late. What would be some neat SOP modifications you would try as CO? Are there any that should be done and shouldn't be done?

2.) Echo squad has been a topic of controversy here and there. What's your take on Echo, and when do you think you should utilize it?

    OPTIONAL

Whats your take on the overall status of CiC gameplay at this time? Are there any improvements you'd like to see?

    1. My CO isn't an extensively lax individual and she doesn't like the military Police so:

    a. Regular SOP modifications like "no armor for MPs on green" wouldn't cut it.

    b. Due to personal bias (Nina speaks German), they would allow German to be spoken on Comms, except command comms.

    c. CL is given authority to approve modifications to the ship similar to CE so long as it is outside Engineering, Medbay, (directly) Hangar and Requisitions; for his needs as a representative of Weyland-Yutani.

    d. CMP doesn't get discretion to demote MP personal for breaking the law. If they break the law, immediate demotion to Private will be done.

This is by no means an extensive list of dos and don't, but some examples. Generally most SOP modifications that would break the guidelines are avoided with ease. It's hard to justify "CMP [insert name here] must walk at all times on
code green" without incurring immediate, deserved wrath from players and admins alike (even if its a little funny). Or modifying the SOP so that ugliness in the presence of an officer counts as DASO, so you arrest half the marines who attend briefing. Terrible, terrible, funny, TERRIBLE ideas.

    2. I like to use Echo for very specific missions, usually having to do with events. I often don't use them outside of that, unless outright request by motivated Marines who have an idea. Even then, usually I will suggest instead of using echo to fulfill their idea, I could instead assign a squad itself to the idea (if the idea warrants a full-size squad). Just today, I had a fallen ship of a Major George Franks event on Chance's Claim. I had a SO transfer some motivated marines wanting to be an Echo Squad, then given the mission of finding and locating the Major's downed ship. Sadly, they only found his metaba auto-pistol. I assumed he was captured.

    3. So, weird idea, but I would like a console for OBs separate from the 4 overwatch consoles at the command station west of the command box where the secondary tactimap is. Often, when I am XO, we have multiple SOs who don't confirm theyve dialed coords. I will say to fire, or the CO giving the co-ords will say to fire, but no one will fire because everyone else assumed the other SO fired the thing. This is - needless to say - infuriating. I should obviously rely on my SOs to dial the OB, but instead I've often had to leave the command box and directly commandeer an Overwatch console from an inactive SO. I assume that this is actually intentional, a way to distinguish good communicative SOs from bad ones. However, even interrupting an SO who *is* good by having to go to the OB tab on their overwatch is disheartening. I'd like to have a console independent of there's for OBs.

    Hello there,

Just a reminder that all questions made here are optional so you dont have to reply to them (unless they come from the council).

However if you have spare time, I'd like to know your intake on this:

The CO council encourages COs to try different tactics in order to promote a different type of gameplay for all players.
My question is: Is there any strategy that you want to try (out of the box) ? And if so, what do you think about the pros and cons of said strategy (you can choose from any map you want)?

    Good luck !

    Hoi,

I know I don't have to answer all questions, but ones I can I will to add more *flavor* as it were. Tyty for the advice though.

As for the question, I'd really like to make a mega-FOB that extended very far into the map (ideally LV when the fog is up) while relying on a trusted Scout Spec to get me coords for all over the map for well-placed OBs. We could BBQ, do competitions of strength, or any number of things while Scout is getting coords for me, and the ComTechs are making the mega-FOB. Nina Hange as a CO will likely deploy less often than many other COs so directly leading bizarro strategies are a no-go. However, if a motivated/trusted SO or SL is observed at round start, I have no abjections to giving unique orders. Just a previous round on Lv-522, I had Charlie split-drop to rescue survivors closer to LZ2 than 1. They originally were to flank the main push of Alpha and Delta from the east after, but Alpha lagged on comms so this plan fell through for safety reasons.

Also, when research accidentally creates a chem that needs to be seized by the Royce, I've been attempting to hire the PMCs for relief. It's kinda a hard mini-event to engage with, so I've been trying to put my own spin on it this way. One round I succeeded, and for payment I gave them one of the 2 queen corpses we had at the time. The second time I failed before the FOB fell to the onslaught. I know, at least from my experience, fighting alongside PMCs is a very rare thing, so trying to make that happen more often is a personal goal of mine as XO, and eventual CO.

Pretty reliable player and can vouch for their RP competency, and their competency in command.

So I like you Nina, you know the game and your skills speak in game. My one question is, why did you rage quit CIC after a SO did a "raise eyebrow" emote at you. COs need tough skins, but I wanna hear your side as I got the other side already. You don't have to answer this, up to you.

No, I can answer that. Basically it was me and a single SO in CIC during a rough, high-pop LV-624 round. They were doing great work, and good SOs - ones who enter coords, find bodies, spot flanks, send supply drops - are rare so I made sure to let them know they were doing good work. Mainly because holy shit managing an OP with 100+ marines is ROUGH with only 2 people in CIC, so having the other be a Robust SO is necessary to my sanity. (Another SO who I tell is a machine is Booker.)

We had tech points a-plenty for things as req said multiple times they didn't need money, as did CAS. We also still had one OB left that was already chambered. We were 3 or 2 points off more OBs if I bought cryomarines. We just lost a lot in a retreat on LV, and so I ordered cryomarines. The SO pointed at me and said "we're only gonna get 3 marines," implying I wasted points. And then after they spawned "we got 5" and she pointed at me a second time. This I read as both OOC - how do you know how many cryomarines we'll get - and passive aggressive. I shoulda just bit the bullet and defended my decision. I have had plenty of rounds where 5-7 extra marines was enough to stall-out the game for good Cade/CAS/OB kills. Eventually leading to a dead queen and hive. I think a lot of very winnable rounds are given up on after a single flank/route/squad wipe. So when the SO clearly used OOC information to insult my decision to get more troops with the intention of not giving up, instead of defending my decision, I threw the command pad on one of the two tables next to the center tactimap. I said something akin to "good luck" and went to cryo. I remember saying something LOOC about my either "my feelings being hurt" or about how "I was nothing but nice, why the hostility." Can't remember. It was one high-stress round and it was only us two in CIC for 95% of it till the end when other SOs spawned only to see evac, so in hindsight its whatever. The cades broke so basically no purchase meant anything anyway. I got out of cryo after like 5 seconds of being in it (literally cooling off idk). We evacced, hijack happened, and from there i cant remember what i ordered or did. I think I evacced to cool off in a pod. If I remember right, the marines actually beat the Xenos shipside (cryomarines woo).

I would also like to add since then the unnamed SO and I have had plenty of CICs since. No issue has happened again. I've actually been meaning to apologize to the SO in LOOC, but I haven't really been alone with them. (I did apologize to a different SO that latejoined that round.) I don't wanna annoy them by OOCly being like "hey follow me to this remote location so we can talk about bunnies" or some shit and I don't know their Ckey so .

Obviously a CO needs thick skin. My promise to keep is that in the future I'll do the former of defending my decision rather than the ladder of throwing command on their head to see if they can do any better. (I've defended my decisions before, so I honestly can't tell you why I didn't just do it that time too.) Feel free to hold me to that promise.

Sorry for taking so long to responding to this. I was going to -1 this but after your response, fuck it why not give someone a second chance. Only reason I'm a CO is cause I got a second chance. Just remember COs need thick skin, all eyes are on you and you're gonna get a lot of crap (for stuff completely out of your control). It's a game at the end of the day. +1 good luck champ

Throwing my pint to the mass-
Nina's a trustworthy 'oldie' so to say. Been around for a while, seen them as plenty of roles and needles to say, they knows what they're doing. In terms of creativity in command and commanding itself, they've proven more than competent too.
Referring to one of the earlier comments where the talk was of the Chem PMC events- I was in one of the rounds where she attempted this gimmick as PMC SG- and had the Marines not lost FoB I'd have agreed to help her due to our Team-Lead antagonizing the MP's and thus being arrested by us for Company protection. The situation was handled well by them and the CMP at the time, so they have proven more than capable of communication and negotiation.
Additionally, unlike many XO's or CO's, there always seem to be atleast something different in their deployment plans or tactics, keeping the marines on their toes as what to expect, which is quite nice for a change.

In summary, I'd completely trust them with the CO whitelist due to their shown competence as Command Roles, talent in Communication and creativity and general attitude. A +1 from me.
Looking forward to seeing you at the top of the Almayer's foodchain.

One thing I'd like to hear though:
How would you act if there was tension with not just the Royce, but W-Y as a whole? Example: In the recent days a Commander had to deal with the consequences of marines assaulting a PMC Call-center and for the most part ignored it even after multiple demanding HC and W-Y faxes for action or response. How would you act if you had to defuse the situation after marines vandalized a W-Y structure and were being pressured by W-Y Division managers aswell as High-Command, whilst having to handle/deal with the Marines at cause for it?
