    Chowder McArthor - Synthetic Programming

    Player Report
    Your Byond ID?
    CCRWasHere

    Date of Incident
    January 8, 2023

    Your Character Name?
    Julian 'Jules' Petrov

    Accused Byond Key(if known):
    Chowder McArthor

    Accused Character Name
    Sarah

Approximate time and date of the incident (Central US Time for fastest results)
    8:00 PM

    What rule(s) were broken:
    Synthetic Programming

    Description of the incident:
    I was the requisitions officer.
    Sarah was a synthvivor.

I was doing my duty coordinating supplies when I spot Sarah attempting to infiltrate cargo by sneaking through the portside flaps. Upon seeing me, she stopped this unorthodox, unauthorized entry, and she decided to enter the proper way by coming to the portside hatch.
She requested to "see my stockpile" (or something to that effect), so I let her in after replying "sure thing."

This is the only authorization I ever gave Sarah; I only authorized her entry to look around.
Despite this, she then hacked the portside ASRS console, used my CT's black market scanner to scavenge the ship for things to sell, operated my cargo elevator, and moved my supplies around.

At one point, she tried getting my approval to spend black market points on buying crates, but a corrupted Alien interrupted us. After the corrupted Alien left, I returned to preparing a supply drop (I did not give her authorization), but I believe she ordered them anyway.

I had been ignoring her for the most part because the round was getting wild: research was making multiple hives that later betrayed the Marines, a drone got loose on the ship, and the XO temporarily went AFK thus briefly leaving me as aCO.

The offenses culminated when Sarah operated my cargo elevator while I was on it stamping papers and moving crates she herself took off the elevator (without my authorization). This resulted in me being killed from being taken down the cargo elevator.
She removed me from the round while I was preparing a supply drop to a failing LZ because she wanted to play around with black market goods (all without my authorization). She said a short warning that I did not hear before killing me, so she believes what she did was justified.

I believed Sarah was aligned with the USCM. I was never led to believe she was an agent for another faction that would kill others in her pursuit for black market goods.
Had I known this synthvivor could break Marine Law by doing whatever she wanted (even at the expense of a Marine's life), I would have pulled out my revolver and shot her.

    Evidence (screenshots, logs, etc):
Logs will have to be pulled regarding Sarah trying to originally enter through cargo's flaps, and our first interaction where she only requested to look around.

https://imgur.com/bvxJ0on (Sarah's request to spend money gets ignored because a corrupted runner appeared.)

https://imgur.com/diuAQuH (The only remark Sarah makes after she kills an important officer is a flimsy excuse.)

Do you understand that staff make the final decision in the resolution of this report?
    Yes

Hi, Sarah here, few things I'd like to note.
I went and got access, I did not break in. I'm not sure why you thought I was trying to go through the flaps when it's just easier to see people from there, rather than the door. Also, I do not think ignorance is a good excuse - if you did not want me in your req bay, you should have just said so.
I was explaining to your technician the various parts of the black market system, because it was a test merge and I really enjoyed it, and it can be useful.
The only supplies I moved were off the lift, to right next to the lift; it is not as if I took your things out of the req bay.
I had also been informing the both of you of the dangers of the lift with the new system, but I did not know you were not listening the multiple times I had said it.
I had ordered multiple specialist weapons from the black market, which could have made a large difference, and did not count towards the normal budget.
Lastly, there is a major issue with the lift that is a development issue, for which I've already talked to the dev in charge of the black market system, where it no longer checks for humans. But there's a delay.
I step offscreen to send the lift down. I press the button.
You step on after the button is pressed.
    Railings go up.
    You go down.
It's not a good system, and you're not the first person this has happened to.
Regardless, it was an accident, and I had tried multiple times to communicate with you, only for you to not say anything. It wasn't intentional, and I was trying to work with you. It was just upsetting to see you claim that I was stealing stuff and trying to intentionally murder you when I got messaged by an admin about the situation.

By "getting access," do you mean simply having the CIC provide your ID with door access, or did the CO authorize you permission to operate my requisitions?

I recall seeing you trying to enter through the flaps, and I recall reading it in my action log. If you were just trying to get a good look, why did you try entering through it?

Is that how synthetics work? They can completely go about as they please (breaking Marine Law) unless someone stops them?
Are you allowed to alter the ship unless the CE stops you? Are you allowed to change prisoners' charges unless the CMP stops you?

You condemn yourself. You knew the lift could kill people, but you still operated it (without my authorization) when I was working on it.
I looked over my action log, and I found none of your warnings. Even if I had, you—as a synthetic—should not have been allowed to put my life in needless jeopardy.

Hello! As the guy that coded the black market PR, I'd like to contribute by giving information on it.

Hacking the computer is intended to disable safeties on the elevator, which is what allows the smuggled goodies up. However, I forgot about the elevator's railings going up while the elevator was going down, trapping anyone who's on the elevator. Additionally, I did not really conceptualize in my head just how punishing it is to be inmediately deleted by the ASRS elevator for this.

I am looking into fixing these issues and BM won't be testmerged until they are, but I don't blame Chowder for not really realizing just how deadly the elevator was, with its trapping railings and instadeleting threat.

While I'm here - It's possible BYOND ate the missing warning message, I've seen this happen to me often - usually with announcements that play the message but don't actually show up.

CCRWasHere is correct that this is violation of the Synth Guidelines, and it was further clarified in an announcement to the Synth WL. Though Chowder (Sarah) did inform the RO of the dangers, it is not the place of a synthetic (shipside or colony) to alter the functionality of security measures on the Almayer, and more so for the potential harm to allied personnel. This incident was taken into account and was a contributing factor in Chowder being de-whitelisted. The player has already been informed. Thank you for taking the time to file the report, and thank you, Carlarc for clarifying your Black Market PR changes.
