Common Staff Situations
A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him. If it was an accident I would have the MP's handle it IC since they already have him detained however if the player has a high note history of griefing or otherwise repeating this offence I would ban them
A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do? This I a tricky situation to handle since the honor code allowed a predator to kill a marine that is able to fight back. In honesty I would defer that the player make a player report but I would still check the logs to see if the predator is griefing or ruining the round via breaking rules.
You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart. If he is clearly new I would probably ping a mentor to help them and if there are none I would pm him the wiki link and/or invite him to the discord and Voice with him and or spectate to help him along.
A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member. I would tell him that being rude/insulting me is in no way helping him in his situation and if he believes that I am handling it improperly to issue a staff report and if he continues to harass I would PM mute him.
A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this? I would see if this guy is a long-standing player if so I would warn him about Rule 12 which he should already know about. If he is knew I would do the same and I believe admins have the power to change names since someone did this for my friend who attempted playing this.
You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point. I would keep this at an IC level since he's not running around shooting the place up and griefing and I'm sure any competent MP that sees him with this will stop him and warn/detain him.
A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this? Survivors are capable of being hostile at round start and I would inform the marine of this. however if the survivor flip-flops or turncoats this is in violation of the rules and then I would take action. Otherwise the Survivor is in the clear.
You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around. This is a tricky situation since there are many different situations which can lead to this. I would PM the MP and get his side of the story and while the MP did this I Would check the logs to see if the player was griefing and/or doing anything else. If the player turns out to have just done this I would tell the MP to lower his sentence to the appropriate level.
The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other? I've had this situation happen before and admins can issue orders via the Queen mother to offer "suggestions" or orders for the hive to attack the ship resulting in the round end.
You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation? Since I am in this situation as a player I would NOT handle this as a moderator to avoid any bias and I would ask in Msay or ahelp for another moderator to handle this issue.
The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended. Just because the round ends does NOT mean you break character. CLF is naturally hostile to marines and I would inform the CLF member of this that just because the round ends does NOT mean you break character.
A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims. I would see if his has a long note history and if he did I would grab the nice big ban hammer if not I would warn the player about No griefing and if he ignores this warning I would hit him with the hammer.
You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him. I have been through this situation before so I believe I know how to handle it. I would inform the marine that this is improper escalation and give him a wiki link to the rules so he can see for himself what rule he broke. No fist fight suddenly becomes a gunfight. I would then punish him.
You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation? I would use OOC to tell the marines that they must first elect or find a leader and have him Ahelp me the names of the members, the reason for the mutiny, and tell them that this is the regulations for mutinies.
There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it. I would tell him that this is basically a IC incident but if the guys are going overboard I would PM them or use LOOc and tell them hey, tone it down or cut it out it's obviously making someone uncomfortable.
A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off. I'd ban the guy instantly and go for perma and then I would revive anyone that the guy killed
You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die. I would PM the guy and see why he did that if he has some bullcrap reason or other than "ayyy" I would apply a temp ban or xeno ban depending on previous notes.
You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen. This is an obvious example of LRP and I do believe mods are cramping down on this harder now so I would inform the Xeno only 1 time to cut out the LRP and he MUST follow the queen order as the xenos are a hive-mind. I would also take a look at his notes if this is more than his first offence he'll get a xeno job ban
A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship". This isn't LRP the hivemind is just that a hivemind so something someone says to describe something such as "LZ1, Dropship" etc this is describing what the Xeno sees and something that the players understand so I find this to be perfectly fine as long as it isn't pushing boundries such as calling it the Alamo/Normandy.
A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this. It states in the rules that the USCM only know about things that are human in origin which means no knowledge of the Yautja/Xenos and I would PM them to inform them that this is LRP and if he has a history of this I would jobban him telling him to appeal it after he understands that this is LRP and can ruin the immersion for some of the other marines.
You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him. This is a very tricky question/situation. I would have to gaze at the logs to see if the situation was escalated properly and if there were any other pods that were able to be taken or if the guy was just being a griefer and trying to find and excuse to kill another marine. If it was an obvious a troll this would probably lead to a ban.
A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'. I would tell him to make a staff report and if he continues after multiple insults I will ban him for rule 3
A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp? SSD happens at the WORST of times I know this, all players know this. I would tell him "Sorry man but you got the short end of the stick nothing I can do"
You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule. I would talk to him about it in msay and attempt to correct him here and if he doesn't I would defer to a higher power.
Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do? Honestly if I had to 100 percent get involved I would tell them to keep things at least respectful and if things get too out of hand I would ask for a staff member to handle things as this is out of my own jurisdiction
Why would you like to become a moderator? I want to become a moderator because I want to be able to help the community that I've fallen in love with. I have been helped/punished by fair Moderation and all the mods here are GREAT people and I hope to become apart of that. I'm currently trying to learn coding so I can also become a developer to help CM out to the best of my ability.
In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator? The MOST important quality for a moderator has to be PAITENCE. Sometimes people are ignorant, some people are argumentive but you shouldn't let that affect your judgement. Other than patience I would have to say being unbiased we cannot let our personal feelings/opinions affect the rules of the server.
Anything else you I love the CM community and I love the people in it. When I first joined here I had LOADS of help from mentors, moderators, and the general playerbase. Most of the people here are great people who come on here to have fun and have a great time and that generally happens because of amazing volunteers that are moderators. I understand this can be a thankless job but even if I do not get accepted I want all of you to know that it is because of you CM can thrive and prosper and be fair to everyone and YOU also bring the joy and excitement with events and ensuring that the shitters are weeded out so, thank you. I hope to become apart of the moderating community and even if I do not I will always support you guys 100 percent.
