Vote on "Bootcamp Day" for new Sseth tide players.

Recently on CM we have had a HUGE jump in players, up to 300+ playing at once yesterday alone, and that has caused a major problem for the player base. The bottom line is that we NEED a training day for the new players. There might be discord servers and nice people playing willing to help but its as simple as walking away with a shitty attitude and ignoring them like some new players will. In the most recent round alone I witness myself getting PB'd 7 times in around 10 minutes of gameplay and entire squad full of medics refusing to treat marines because they don't know how to do there job. I was also sent in a stasis bag up by a bald medic after being OD'd by said bald medic and spent 5 minutes waiting to get treated for no wounds at all except for being OD'd only to once again be OD'd 2 minutes later when I deployed and have to be sent back up. he round before that had an almost entire bald medbay with only one doctor to teach them, and then I see masses of PFC's shooting into each other as there charging the xeno's not knowing that there is FF involved delimbing and decapping players.

I propose that for the next few days we have Bootcamp rounds to train the exponential amount of new players on how to do the many jobs of the Almyer. I know that after about a week or two the tide will think and the people who really like this game will stay, but we need to start training the ones who want to stay now and help them learn to play the game so they will stay and want to play the game with all of us and help expand CM. Also, please share your experiences with the bald players in the last two days to sow how badly we need this.

A bootcamp is dumb and will force more players away from the game than the slideshow performance does already. It's antithetic to the whole idea that SS13 is chaotic. Learn on the job or don't learn at all, people will have more fun learning in the moment or figuring things out by themself than by being spoonfed on a vague MilRP attempt to "train" them.

I mostly agree with this, BUT, we can make this into an actual server wide event that could be quite fun. Set aside 2/3 hours for a "bootcamp". Take our current map, and cut everything after the medical bay off. Instead put a few different ranges for the different weapons, for the Shotgun, M4, ETC. Teach them how to use their first aid kit, what each of them could "branch" into: EG: Specialist, medic, CT. Hold a class on what the officers do, how to use their HUD. It could be a seriously fun MilRP event that takes the time of about 2 rounds. Have another course taught in the medibay for the doctors which goes over different type of surgeries, and finally one in the bridge for being a SO/XO. Aswell, it could be used to build backstory for characters and give new people connections they could use. Have the "Drill Instructors" be players who applied in the forums and understand the game.

    TLR
Make Full metal Jacket in SS13

    What would be needed:
A new "Drill instructor" set of sprites (possibly)
An edited version of the Almayer (Low/Medium work load)
    Forum applications (Low/Medium work load)

It probably wouldn't affect me cause I play offpeak, but if I got off work and had 2 or 3 hours to play and I get on to see a bootcamp im gonna be pissed off. There are bald players 24/7 on this game. There are people who play for years and never learn the basics and just fuck stuff up all the time. It wont change anything to have a bootcamp. Most of these people will quit playing sooner than later you just have to deal until then.

I agree with everything but the forum applications. Having a whole application process for a one-time event is completely overkill. Not to mention that the hype is already dying down, so if we want to host an event we'll need to do this soon. It would make more sense to ahelp in-game to recieve the instructor role, limited to maybe the first 20 or so people who ask for it. The admins will decide if they should get it based on their note history and playtime.

Also, if we just barricade the area past medbay and launch the dropships, there's lots of room for instruction in the hangar and tank bay. We don't need a custom map for this one event. And weapons could be spawned in by admins too.

Agreed, SS13 is about fucking up again and again until you learn. The people that want to put in the effort will stay, and the trolls will eventually disperse.

Agreed, when I first joined I learned as I go too. I actually learn more on the go and see incredibly robust things than on bootcamp.

the problem I see that as soon as we organize bootcamp, it's already too late

we need to have bootcamp BEFORE some youtuber or someone speaks about SS13

I dont think an event like that would work due to the chaotic nature of SS13. But it should be stressed that every older player should contribute in helping out the new people settle in and learn how things work. If they like it they may even stick around for longer.

Best we can do is instruct them in-game and in looc and you dont have to be a mentor to do that. Best thing we can do is make the new people aware of the quickstart guide and update it. As well as the guides for every other role.
