Common Staff Situations
A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him. Message the player about the reason for shooting random players. The only reason I could see for such an action would be if the player was a survivor who was hostile. If they decided to randomly go hostile, I will inform them of the rules and give them a 3 hour ban. Anything aside from being a hostile survivor would probably receive a 3 hour ban from me.
A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do? I would look into into it, but direct the player to the forums so that they may make a player report.
You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart. I would let a mentor handle the situation If none are on, I will be more than happy to assist them in learning the game.
A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member. Being snarky in Ahelps in already a no-no, So insults are arguing are a big no-no. I would finish whatever they had ahelped about, then inform them of their behavior in ahelps and give them a 3 hour ban.
A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this? Ahelp the player in question and request they change their name. If they refuse, I will give them a 3 hour ban.
You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point. This seems like an IC issue, So I wouldn't take action against it.
A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this? I would take the time to explain how this is an IC issue and that this is okay within in the rules.
You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around. I would ahelp the MPs in question and ask them for their reasoning in their actions. IF it comes up that it was simply misjudgment or outright negligence of marine law, I will give them a warning and tell them to let the player in perma go. If they continue to do things like this, I will jobban them.
The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other? I would see about getting an administrator to take action, If none are on, I am not really sure what to do in that case.
You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation? I would message the player in question about their actions. I would try to give them a chance to explain their actions. If they turn out to be malicious, I would give them a 1 day ban for griefing, as well as a job ban.
The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended. This is an IC issue despite the round being over, and I would inform the player of such.
A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims. I would message them back asking for a bit more information Once I have, I would message the player in question and inform them of their actions and ask for their reasons. If the reasons come up as pointless and memey, I will give them a 3 hour ban for round start shenanigans. If they have proper reasons, I might reconsider and give a warning.
You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him. This is blatant improper escalation and I would tell the player that. I'd tell them they are receiving a 3 hour ban for such and leave it at that.
You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation? I would attempt to use OOC messages to try and de-escalate the situation. If the situation goes on, I will begin sleeping members and ahelping to try and get them to stop If both attempts continue, 1 day bans will be handed out.
There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it. The stance on racism IC is confusing to me, BUt as far as I know, If it's minor, it's fine, But I would still message the players to tone it down.
A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off. The player would receive a week ban for blatant grief, and the victims would be Ahealed.
You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die. I would ask the player for their reason for doing such. If it comes up that they did it for no real reason, then they would be receiving a xeno job ban.
You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen. I would message the player and inform them that netspeak is against the rules, then proceed to place a note for such.
A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship". This isn't an issue, and I would inform the ahelper of that, then consider it resolved.
A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this. I would message the command staff member about it. I would try and get information about how they know this. If it turns out they have proof (such as a fax from the planet or early deployment marines), I would leave it as an IC issue. If not, I would give them a warning for metagaming and tell them not to do it again.
You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him. I would look into the situation by messaging both parties. I would first ask the player who was killed in the situation, asking if they had somehow escalated the situation or if it was just griefing. If the player had decided that he had ntohing to do with the player, Then I would go on to ask the second player who killed him. I would ask if the situation was escalated or if the player was fine with it. If they give a different answer than the first player, I will go on to ask the other two players in the pod. If either say that the player was going along with it, I will leave it as an IC issue. If they both say that the second player had killed him without RP, I would ban the second player for 1 day for grieifing.
A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'. I myself wouldnt exactly care, But if I were in someone elses shoes, I would give them a 3 hour ban for such behavior, since it could be considered harassment.
A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp? I would simply tell him that it's an IC issue and that it's not going to happen.
You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule. I would correct the fellow staff member in msay and give them the chance to inform the player properly.
Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do? I would give my opinion on the matter, hoping that it would allow the situation to be resolved or defused.
Why would you like to become a moderator? So that I can get a look at what it's like to have that kind of responsibility. I feel like if I were in that position, I might end up becoming a better person in the community.
In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator? Professionalism, A decent sense of morality, A good standing within the community, and a good amount of patience.
Anything else you Nope.
