Why would you ever not take a shotgun when you have the option to?

Fancy guns save lives when used well.

Ever drag a wounded patient with a gyro'd, arm braced, RDS M39 for defense?

I think that he's saying not to kit out a fancy weapon, not "dont get a gun".

I have to agree with both sides. Medics with no weapon are literally walking larvae and the patients they treat are too. This doesn't mean medics should have an HPR + BC, QFA, Bipod, etc.

The best loadout for self defense as a medic is a shotgun with RC, Miniflamer, and magnetic harness. The miniflamer gives the medic that area denial mentioned above, allowing time for the medic to drag their patient to safety. The shotgun is scary enough for runners and lurkers; makes em think twice before advancing.

I only ever need a shotgun with rail light and maybe angled grip if I can be bothered.

Otherwise, no need for fancy guns, don't understand those. 90% of the time I'm busy treating people in the backline anyways, last 10% is spent pushing/retreating with few to no wounded.

My mk2 with smartscope has caused many xenos to drop the marine they were trying to drag away and let me recover him.

Its not like medics running good guns will put a dent in the total attachments.

I saw a medic at REQ trying to get a barrel charger, and almost died a little inside.

    Expect the unexpected.

A medic trying to defib is usually the biggest target, but in return they are usually the least expected to pull out a mag harn agrip bayonet / BC shotgun and instantly PB then PB again and send you to dchat.

Ive killed so many lurkers and runners doing this.
