Synthetic Character Story
The monitor beeps as the Alamo departs from the Hangar Bay from aboard the USS Almayer. Eternus-1 is the system that the Almayer has traveled into. The USMC are responding to a report of CLF activity on the planet. The Pilot Officer at the dashboard stands from his chair with a yawn after the initial thrust fades to a stable speed. He sighs as he pushes the door control to head into the hull. The door lifts into the roof, with a clank. Isaac is by the cockpit to greet him.
Hello, sir. The synth gives a small nod, How are you feeling about todays operation?
The PO gives an annoyed gaze and averts his eyes away from Isaac. He walks past him, seemingly ignoring the question. Not soon thereafter, he returns to the cockpit as the Alamo draws nearer to the drop zone. Isaac gives an empty frown, but his face soon returns to a calm expression. -- Arent all of his expressions empty?
Isaacs head turns and focuses on a marine who is tapping the arm-guard of his chair. The rhythm forces a comment from the synth, Classical?
The marine lets out a chuckle, What do you know about music? He turns his head away and shakes it, disapproving of the comment. Isaac reads the marines expression and squints.
The dust beneath the LZ is brought up in a wave and blown out of the path of the Alamo. The thunk of the landing gear pressing into the ground is heard and everyone is pushed into their seats. The large rear door descends and almost instantly commands are being given and marines are screaming their battle cries. The marines are grouping and advancing on the forward to combat the CLF threat. The first shots ring out throughout the outpost; radio chatter grows louder.
The radio headset vibrates in Isaac's ears, Isaac, get over to medical. We need you to assist down here, now! These marines cant be moved back to the Alamo; their conditions are too critical.
Almost immediately, Isaac moves into a quick jog towards the small, equipped medical building. While passing, he compliments the battlefield, This battlefield resembles Fenwells piece on war. Fossam Sanguine he called it. Isaac let himself comment over the radio as he kept moving. Theres a response from a squad medic, Synth, its not time to admire the environment! Get down here! Isaac replies, Understood, sir.
Isaac arrived to the scene in time; quickly heading over to one of the patients who is on a table. The marine appeared to be gasping, with his breath short and quick. Almost as a reflex, Isaac injects a Dexalin autoinjector into him and gives the patient an Inaprovaline to stabilize the patient. He uses an anesthetic autoinjector to put his patient to sleep and takes a glance back to check on the other. The squad medic and a doctor from the ship seem to be working diligently. His focus turns back and he checks the patient to see if hes still conscience. Isaac fits into some clean surgical gloves as the doctor approaches.
Here, Isaac. The doctor hands him a medical report from the scanner. Their finger points to each injury and fracture highlighted by the report. He sets the report aside, propping it up against the chair.
Isaac grips an IMS and pulls the armor off of the patients chest. He crafts a careful incision down the marines chest. The doctor picks up the report, Punctured lung. You know what youre doing?
He nods and comments, Of course, sir. and continues his procedure. The marines ribcage is cut via bone saw and propped open with retractors. Isaac takes hold of an advanced trauma kit and begins to smear bioglue over the puncture in the lung. Once hes finished, Isaac sets the bones and uses bone gel to repair the damages done.
*BFEW!*
Just as Isaac reaches for the cauterizer, theres a blast that knocks him off his feet. Hes seemingly stunned. The blast was unexpected, but due to his enhanced ability to comprehend complex situations and absorb physical damage, he makes a quick recovery. He takes a look to the left; his medical HUD pronounces the doctor dead and the squad medic in a critical state.
He snaps to his right to read his patients condition. The marine has an open incision on his chest, but was fortunately still on the table. The marines left arm is cut by glass and shrapnel, but he is stable otherwise. Isaac jumps to his feet and rushes for an oxycodone autoinjector. He moves to the medic and expends the painkiller into him. He drags the medic back a few feet to where his patient lays and turns back for the doctor. He drags the doctors limp and lifeless body to the other two. The doctor has moderate burns and shrapnel in his head, neck, and chest due to his lack of body armor.
The medic gasps as he regains conscious; he stutters, W-W-What? He begins to cough violently. Isaac gives a spaceacilin to the unconscious patient. He then grabs the cauterizer and begins to close the incision on the patients chest before the anesthetic wears off. Once hes finished, he decides that the marines arm is the least of the worries here. He puts the patient on a roller bed and kneels beside the medic. The medic seems to be slipping in and out of consciousness.
The synth readjusts his headset and speaks, I need assistance at medical, there seems to have been an IED explosion. I have two injured, one deceased, and limited supplies.
Itll take some time, but well loop back around to assist!, the Delta SL responds.
Isaac reaches into the medics backpack to remove a stasis bag and a medevac stretcher. He takes off the small clasp on the stasis bag that keeps it folded and lays it out. He quickly returns to the aid of the medic, who suffers from a concussion, internal bleeding, broken ribs, and moderate burns on his face, his arm, and leg. Samuels removes a burn kit from his satchel and begins to apply ointment to his face. The armor is hot to the touch; Isaac pulls his helmet and body armor off and administers treatment from the burn kit to his arm and leg. He shakes the medic and manages to wake him. The synth gives the medic kelotane, quick-clot, and sits him up against a wall. He tightens a splint around his chest and forces him to swallow a tramadol. Isaac drags the medic to the stasis bag and seals it around him. He figures that the medic might die inside the medevac stretcher and needs to be in the stasis bag to survive. He grabs the patient, who is still under the effects of the anesthetic and places him inside the medevac stretcher. The glass roof should allow for the extraction. His finger presses the activation control on the stretcher; it beeps and flashes green twice. Finally, he puts the deceased doctor in a body bag.
He pulls the stasis bag onto a roller bed and pushes it towards the door. The roller bed leaves his hand and continues towards the door, finally coming to a stop with a clank as it hits the wall. He begins to drag the body bag--
*kpok, kpok!*
Isaac looks down, there are two bullet holes in his abdomen. He drops the bag and runs out of sight from the doorway. The synth takes a quick peer around the corner. He sees a lone CLF weilding an automatic rifle, but has a look of terror on his face. He wasnt mentally prepared for a battle.
I know what youre feeling. You dont want to be here. Isaac utters from behind the wall. Suddenly, gunshots ring as they fire beside the cover. The bullets whizz past the corner and spark against some metal equipment. Isaac realizes that the threat will persist and awaits for an advance. The barrel of the gun passes and the synth makes his move. He grips the barrel with one hand and points it into the ground. Shots are fired into the floor; the CLF doesnt let go and continues to pull the trigger.
The synth grabs his uniform with an unbreakable grip and reveals himself from behind the cover. He lets go of the rifle and draws his robotic fist back. Isaac blank stares at the CLF in the short moments before he delivers a blow to his head. The man stumbles back and falls over; hes knocked out. Isaac kicks his rifle away and uses some wire to tie the mans hands behind him.
Dulce Et Decorum Est, a poem you should read when you wake., Isaac whispers beside his foe.
The synth stands and swiftly moves back to the body bag. He drags the body bag to the door with the stasis bag and opens the door. Isaac is greeted by a squad of marines who flood into the medical station and begin to sweep it. The medevac is received and pulled into the Normandy.
Isaac grips the side of the roller bed and heads out of the building. The body bag is taken by the marines and dragged back to the dropship. The roller bed lets out sharp squeaks as its brought to the dropship. Not my preferred tune. Isaac mumbles. Not long after, he arrives to the Alamo and boards. The dropship departs to return to the Almayer, and so the duty of Baptiste aboard the USS Almayer would continue into the foreseeable future.
Big thanks to Jakkk and SolubleWhenWet for helping me with my application and answering my questions.
How do you intend to play your Synth? My Synth's quirk is that he loves the arts. He will often reference music, playwrite, art, etc. when commenting on the scene of a battlefield or matching a marine's hum to a piece of music. I have a full understanding of how Synths should and would act and I would perform the expectations in practice.
I can and will play all support roles if requested, of course.
I will also do my best to create fun and interesting roleplay interactions with my quirk. I intend to play him how the community expects a synth to act. I know the Synth rules, the restrictions, etc. I will abide by the guidelines and the standards when I am playing my synthetic.
How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO) Medical: Easily my strongest suit. I know most medicine recipes by heart, I know all surgeries by heart, and I can perform surgery in the field or on the ship. I know what the overdose limits are and what does what, etc. If anyone recognizes me (hopefully they will since I've been trying to make myself obvious for the past few months), they will know that I often play CMO, Doctor, and squad medic when I play support.
MT: My second best role. For a while I mained CE and MT. I know how to construct effective FOBs, I know how to repair robotic limbs, build MedBots, repair/build APCs, load the OB, fix telecomms, deconstruct and reconstruct walls, etc.
CT/RO: Tied for second. I am a great CT and a decent RO. I've recently mastered the roles and can perform the job effectively.
Science: This is my third best and probably one of my favorites. I know how to make most medicines by heart, I can make medical grenades, I can make chemical grenades that cause immediate mental retardation, etc.
SO: My worst subject, but don't take that the wrong way. I can be a decent SO, but I prefer not to. I have the know hows of dropping crates, over watching effectively, and I have map knowledge.
Bonuses:
SL: I am a frequent SL when I play marine. My preferred squads are Charlie and Bravo. While this isn't a "support" role, it still takes knowledge of the maps and competence.
Survivor: I play this shit all the time and I love it. To be honest, if accepted, one of the first things I will do is be a synthetic survivor. I love the difficulty and skill it takes to survive on the colony. I always have my preference set to survivor because it's actually one of my favorite things to do. I mention this because survivors usually have to have a decent knowledge of engineering and some medical. They also need wit and a good knowledge of SS13/CM to survive.
Why should we whitelist you? The council should whitelist me because I have an exceptional knowledge of the mechanics of CM. I know that I have the ability to create exceptional roleplay situations as a Synth that anyone can enjoy. I'm not the average player trying to get a new and cool whitelist. Synth is a role that I would love and I can see myself doing exceptionally well.
I have studied the guides, talked to the council, looked at previous applications, and done everything I can to prepare for this.
I started playing in 2018 and since then I've come a long way. I had notes for some bad behavior, but I've learned since then. Hear me out.
I am currently job banned from MP. I am currently appealing. This ban was from when I first started CM and didn't know how anything worked. Was it a shitty idea for me to pick MP? Yes, and I understand that. I also understand that job bans do not look good on an application. I understand that people are going to be concerned about this, but I can assure you that mistakes like that will not happen again.
If you're wondering, I do know how to properly detain people as a Synth only when requested and I know how to do everything MP related while playing Synth.
FAQ:
-I can fly dropships, but cannot CAS
-I can't use firearms of any kind
-I must put my self preservation before anything, and cannot "sacrifice" myself for a cause.
-I cannot side with xenos as a synthetic surivor
-In a mutiny, I must side with my judgement. This means that I would follow Marine Law to choose who to support. Even then, I would mostly keep out of the way.
-I must follow any direct command from a higher authority than me, except for when it violates marine law.
-I cannot give commands to marines, but only ask them to do something.
"Why apply before a verdict is given on your MP appeal?"
I actually couldn't wait to apply. I want this role more than any other whitelist and I PROMISE that the MP job ban will not have any negative effects. I know what I'm doing, and the ban was far in the bald past.
Any more questions? Ask below.
Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason? Not in the last 30 days.
Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why? No.
Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline? Yes
