Better guns for more inventory or larger inventory for meh guns?

A simple question: would you rather limit the carrying capacity for marines in trade of better gun stats or keep the current system where you can carry a boatload of shit but struggle at killing a drone?

By carrying capacity, I mean guns, ammo and all. A marine would only be able to carry one primary weapon and ammo would be limited mostly to belts; in compensation, damage, firerate and accuracy is increased for most guns and handguns get major buffs.

I personally believe the first option is the better way to balance marines. After all, the game is based on real life military, and as we all know, soldiers don't carry shotguns and rifles, nor can they fit extra ammo in their backpockets.

This would apply to other roles, such as specialists, engineers, medics, etcetera.

how is this even a contest? shotguns are arguably the most effective pfc gun and are already near the extreme end of the firepower - ammo carrying spectrum, and most m41a pfcs rarely live long enough to actually eat through most of the ammo they carry down

The idea is focused more on rifles and SMGs though. Shotguns are obviously very good currently, but they shouldn't be the only good weapon. Rifles and SMGs suffer from low accuracy and firerates, and being long range weapons they should be effective specially at defenses. Turns out they aren't. But if we buff them and let marines not only carry 10 mags AND a shotgun, they become too powerful. Thus, let a marine either focus on a shotgun build or a rifle/carbine/SMG build, not both.

yes, i know, i was simply using the shotgun as an example of how it would definitely be a buff that i expect very few people to object to

for example, if you have a better chance at successfully killing xenos with better gun stats, you suddenly need less bullets because theyre less likely to get away and heal 50 times

This would also mean less metal and medicine for medics and engies, unless they carry only a sidearm. In trade, medvac gets faster and cades/sentries get better. Would it be better for balance?

I always sacrifice less rifle ammo for more buckshot and meds because obvious reasons.

Scarcity could be fun but I don't know until we try it out, if guns were stronger I think cades and sentries would have to be nerfed.

Well, less carrying capacity for PFCs would also imply more work for req, as they would need to move more supplies to the front, so yes, scarcity could be fun

Yes only 1 gun per marine would make marines specialize instead of having 2 weapons that covers ever situation. It would also make you able to make each specialization more effective and easier to balance.
