Current Feature Discussion - Corporate Liaison

    Current Feature Discussion
    Main Topic of Discussion
    Corporate Liaison
    Feature(s) in Question
    Fax Machine
    Opinion of this feature
I have played CL multiple times, and absolutely enjoy the unique way I am able to role play this character as a member of the ship. Yet the main "weapon" of this role is supposed to be the Fax Machine as it is used to send faxes to Weyland (admin), and get responses to these faxes which can alter the result of the role play itself in simple, or dramatic way. The problem that I've seen nearly every time playing as this role is that no faxes are ever answered. Now I do still enjoy the role itself without the fax responses, but it makes the role half as powerful as it could be, and it also ruins some role play scenarios when the fax machine isn't responded to.
(Optional) Ways to improve this feature
I understand that admins usually are playing in the game as well and also get busy with other things, but I would like to request that the CL role be payed more attention to in matches, as it adds more reasons to play the role, and it allows the player to have access to the fax machine (which is the main weapon of the CL as stated). Even just a simple response saying "The fax machine network is offline." could allow the CL to focus on other activities than sending more faxes or always expecting one. I would also like to suggest that Admins and Mods possibly undergo some sort of training to know how to respond to the Fax Machine Messages, so that it can be used more frequently.

Your fax should be assumed to be ignored. If you get a response then you should he happy to have heard anything. Expecting a response breeds CL's with a sense of entitlement to getting something from staff. Fuck that dumb bullshit.

I just saw this post and had to reply.

You said it gives the CL a sense of entitlement but in the same sentence you say "If you get a response then you should he happy to have heard anything." The lack of self awareness is jaring. This must be a shit post.........

Anyhow I do agree it kind of makes the CL role pointless when mods/admins aren't trained or don't bother to respond to CL faxes. Just nullifies the entire role which should be crucial to the ships roleplay.

I dont get that at all, Making Answers manditory means CLs will expect to get something out of it. Instead of making it manditory it should be a happy rare thing that they get an answer so its something of value to them. Saying I lack awareness is dumb I've been playing CL for years I think I know what Im talking about.

CL's can do plenty outside of waiting for faxes and that should where you find your fun. Its an RP role, it should be involved in the actual mechanics of the game as little as possible.

Could we get the research office to also have a fax machine? The CL and the researcher kind of go together right now with shenanigans in containment and it would seem to me that there should be a good way for those two roles to communicate "privately".

    I get fax responses quite regularly as a marine;

    - try using the proper forms
    - make clear request, like "I need a note allowing me to deploy to the planet."
    - keep it short.
    - if no such form exist, create your own out of an existing form.
    - Make sure it is directly relevant to the round, i.e. fax permission to remove CO while basically everyone is debating a mutiny, explaining what the CO did wrong, and explaining theirs about to be a mutiny, and you as a SO need a note for CMP to replace CO with XO, per those reasons, and to prevent losing the ship.
    - check online staff, moderators/mentors will 99% of the time ignore you, admins tend to respond.

As a whole, any member of staff can reply to faxes however only admins can give you something interesting to do. Thats why unless a fax is exceptionally good, we dont respond often. Exclusions are command indictments and other OOC requirements for IC actions.

Trust me, admins wont do anything for CLs, ever. They rarely involve you in events either. Go whip up some forms, get the CO to sign their soul and when they don't go ahead and file a mutiny with your bribed soldiers. It's all within the confines of the rules, hypothetically.

Paperwork is your greatest strength and contracts have serious leverage with MPs because they can functionally sign any rights away that are covered under marine law and you can usually ahelp if the MPs are ignoring your legally binding contract.

this notion that "you should be happy that anyone answers your fax" is like adding a jamming feature to Specialist guns then stating "you should be happy that your SADAR doesn't jam every 3 shots"

its dumb that one of the more fundamental parts of your job is locked behind whether someone feels like doing something

instead CL's should get special tools that are given to them by The Company and given mini-objectives to complete, like "annoy the CMO with NDA's about X threat" or something, and the company gives them some experimental drugs the CL can bribe the CMO with (or the doctors under him that will "politely ask" the CMO to sign the papers)

I normally just lurk and take a look at current events, but this attitude right here is as 'entitled' as the twisted logic of 'fuck you for caring about doing your job' is.

At least the OP is trying to make the job worth playing. You? You're just telling people that they don't matter.
