Unload macro & click-to-draw pouches or tactical reloads
Otherwise looting from the ground.
I usually try and conserve my empty magazines. For reloading, I'll remove the magazine, then either drop it or place it in a free pouch/webbing slot, then place the new magazine in.
During lulls in combat. I'll move bullets around in my magazines to top up my mags as much as I can. Depending on req, I'll either discard my empty or low bullet mags for fresh mags, or refill my empty mags on bullet boxes.
I do, personally, wish there was more of an emphasis on conserving your magazines, less ammo boxes and more bullet boxes.

If I have an extended mag, I use lulls in combat to empty out regular mags and top it off. Otherwise I usually have my webbing open and tactical reload from it once I run dry. If I know there's an ammo box I'll keep empty mags, but I haven't been able to consistently have one available, so I usually just toss the empties.
Reloading is no problem if you die before your loaded mag runs dry
