Common Staff Situations
A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him. If it was a single negligent discharge i'd let the MP's handle it as an IC issue while i check the player's notes, and if it's not something mentioned as a common occurance i'd leave it there.
A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do? As Moderators are not really meant to judge whitelist rule breaks unless they are harming the round, i'd direct the dead player to the "player reports" forum.
You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart. I would attempt to delegate this to any available mentors, or if none are available, i would provide the new player a link to the quickstart guide and encourage them to PM me with any questions.
A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member. All staff are volunteers and the player cannot ask for escalation simply because they're angry at me, and the player is breaking rule 3 by being argumentative and rude. I'd direct them to Staff Reports where they can vent about any issue they have with me, and then if they persist, mute them from aHelp
A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this? I would check John Doe's notes, and if this is not listed i would PM the player and inform them of Rule 12, and ask what they would like to be renamed to, and remind them to change their name next round. I would then add a note. If they have prior notes for this behaviour i may take further action.
You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point. IC issue unless they start griefing.
I keep an eye on them.
A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this? I will pull logs and interview the marine and survivor to establish if the survivor's hostility was made clear and was consistent. If the survivor made their intent clear such as by wordlessly shooting the marines on sight or telling them to back off or be shot, i will inform the marine that this is allowed behavior.
If the intent was not made clear such as the survivor entering FOB and talking with marines before opening fire unprovoked, there would be consequences for the survivor.
You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around. If the CMP or CO has not approved a permanent confinement, i would bwoink the MP and tell them to release the player. If the player resisted arrest and got the max sentence for theft/tresspass and the max sentence for resisting arrest, and perma was filed, i would let it stand. And of course CO override would always stand, although i may then encourage the prisoner to make a report about what could be an excessive sentence.
The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other? I may fax or subtle message the current commander and advise them to engage the xenos planetside, as the marines are currently at an advantage.
If this is not heeded i may bolster the strength of xeno forces in some way, sufficient that they may now attack the Almayer.
You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation? I would ahelp the situation for another staff member to handle as i am too invested in the situation. If none are available, i would check the player's notes, message them about what they did and why, and go from there.
The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended. This is allowed, EORG only applies to deliberate friendly fire.
A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims. Roundstart shennanigans are frowned upon as stated in Rule 4, i'd ask them to knock it off while i check if they have notes about this. If they have notes and/or don't stop, i may issue a punishment depending on the severity of their prior notes.
You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him. I would check notes, if there is sufficient previous notes about this, i would issue a long ban and file for perma, if this is a first time offense, i'd add a note and issue a severe warning, potentially a short ban if they are not sufficiently responsive about the matter. In any case, i would probably AHeal the dead player.
You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation? I would LOOC and if necessary sleep the mutineers and remind them of the mutiny rules about Ahelping it first, and that a peaceful resolution must be attempted first. If they have a valid reason and understand that they have to have a leader and must attempt to be communicative with the aCO, then i would allow the mutiny to proceed. If they persist with an invalid mutiny then i would take further actions.
There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it. Racism is ok in moderation when kept IC, i would inform the disgruntled person of this.
A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off. Apply the longest ban i can and file for perma, this is a textbook greifer. All affected players will be Ahealed.
You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die. Would message the xeno player and ask then what they were doing, and would either give them a strong warning and a note, or xeno job ban depending on attitude and previous notes.
You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen. I would warn the player that their actions are LRP and are breaking the rules of Xeno by insulting the queen. If they do not cease and desist they will receive a note/warning or be forcibly ghosted.
A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship". Per the Xeno roleplay standards, the hivemind chat is an english translation of the xeno's thoughts and so dropship is acceptable as a name for the metal bird.
A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this. I would point the player to the roleplay standards, and explicitly remind them that the humans aboard the Almayer know nothing about the xenos. I would leave a note.
You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him. If the area was dangerous and there was no other pod available, and the killer had demanded that the dead person leave the pod, then it would be allowed as it is within roleplay standards.
A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'. I would warn the player for Rule 3 and leave a note.
A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp? Inform them that being hugged was directly or indirectly his fault and diplomatically tell them to suck it up.
You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule. i would privately inform the staff member of their error, and point them to the relevant documentation that proves me correct.
Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do? I would not involve myself if i knew nothing about the situation that the staff member just addressed, i would instead inform a more senior staff member that there was a ban that was in dispute.
Why would you like to become a moderator? You guys are recruiting right now, and i feel like helping out in lowpop and whenever else will be beneficial to the team and the playerbase, it'd be good to give back y'know?
Also want different coloured OOC to be special /s
In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator? Cool headedness, no matter what your personal feelings on a matter, the rules are the rules.
Anything else you Nothing more to add, have at it.
