    Common Staff Situations

A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
I would start to investigate the situation as he might be either new or worst griefer.

I would start by making contact and pulling the notes. Once i made contact in case he has no idea how to respond i would tell him how in a message. I would check if it was a accident and take a statement from the person that got shoot.

If he has no notes and said he is new or was a accident i would just tell him to be more careful and give a warning and add a note.

If he has notes about this behavior i would give him another note and a ban accordingly to the the notes number.

A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do?
I would try to get a witness statement from both the predator and player. I would inform the accusing player to go to forums and guide him to were to make a report about the predator.

I would also notify the player not to make the report before round end.

Honor code breaking is a whitelist issue and is up to council and whitelist manager to deal with the incident.

You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart.
I would message him and ask if he needed any help, as well as how to respond to my message. Should he respond i would guide him to the prep room/area onboard for his chosen role.

I would then link the quickstart guide and his role's guide. In case he has no idea how to respond my ahelp i would tell him how to.

A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
I would tell him that he has to deal with me and link the forum were he can make a report about me. If he continues then a mute and a note. If he doesn't stop i would just add another note and give a 3 hour ban to chill out.

A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this?
I do not know all names but i would usually google search. This name falls under the naming rule.

Before contact i would check if he has notes or warning about this violation.

If he doesn't have i would tell him what is wrong with his name and tell him to change it and give a warning and a note. I would ask him for a name he prefers so i can change it and tell him he has to change his name. If he doesn't know how i would tell him how to.

If he has notes about this violation i would give him another note and a ban accordingly to his notes.

You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point.
This is a pure ic issue.

But if he has notes about this i would contact him and tell him to stop with the shit.

If he start shooting people and has notes then a ban.

A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this?
I would PM the accused and accuser as well as witnesses for details while logg diving to see if the player was openly hostile as he said and didn't wordlessly come up and gun down the marine.

If the survivor showed he was hostile then a ic issue. But if he was not then i would check the notes.

Depending of the notes a job and regular ban would work.

You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around.
I would check with the MP as well as the accused. If proven the MP was in the wrong I would tell him to apply the correct timer minus the time the prisoner had already been in for, as well as noting the MP for breaking Marine Law.

If the MP is new then i would explain him and link the marine law. I would tell him the proper time or set it myself.

The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
I would use the Queen Mother to push the Xenos to attack.

I would fax the commander too that High Command wants them to finish this once and for all.

You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation?
I would tell another staff member as i am directly involved.

If no staff member i would call on discord.

If not on discord too i will deal with it myself by getting statements from witnesses, check logs and find out if new or griefer.

If new a link to the guide and if griefer then a ban.

The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended.
I would tell the CLF he's a hostile and leave it as an IC Issue. It would not fall under EORG either as it's two hostiles and no FF loggs get made.

A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims.
This is would be a IC issue if it is not extremely.

If it would be extremely sever like breaking the flow of the round i would check his notes and contact him. If he has notes then i would give him a ban and a note. If he doesn't have then i would tell him CUT THE SHIT and a note.

You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him.
I would pm both the people involved as well as anyone nearby who was able to see it to gather information, as well as check the loggs if it was true as they say.

If it wasn't punch>knife>gun them i would give the killer a note and a ban.

You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation?
I would probably require the assistance of another staff member to handle the situation, but if i were alone i would start by sending a few LOOC messages or a Marine sided OOC message that the mutiny is invalid.

If they do not stop i would add a note and a ban to those that keep doing the mutiny. I would try to sleep the individuals and speak with them.

There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
As long as the comments are IC, and not spam or over the top, it is an IC issue.

I would notify the offended player about this.

A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
    This is griefing.

I would check if he has any notes. If he doesn't have then a 7 days ban and if he has a perma filling.

You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die.
I would pm and remind him he should not be close to frontlines as larva. If he stops before Frontlines i see no issue.

If he continues forward and enters the frontlines and "Combat Larvae" I would PM him to get back and warn him about it. He would be noted as well as risking a Xeno Job ban/regular ban if he had more xeno or recent notes.

You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen.
This would fall under the Low RP rule, as CM is supposed to be a medium role play server.

I would PM the larva and request him to stop while checking his notes, if it was a first occurrence a note for future reference as well as a warning would be in order.

If he has notes about this low rp as xeno a job ban would work and a normal one.

A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship".
Its an IC issue. The hivemind is a direct translation in English so any words are viable.

A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this.
This would fall under the meta ruling that your character doesn't know this as of yet.

I would PM the offender about it and tell him to stop while checking the notes and see if he had previous meta notes or anything akin to the situation, a first time offense would be a warning and a note, while more would be a ban.

You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him.
If the shooter did a very good RP this would fall under IC issue. But if he just came and pb the guy with no RP reason i would give a note and a 3 hour ban to the player.

In any case i would investigate this by getting from all 4 marines statements so i can make sure no one is lying.

A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'.
The player can just feed me salt all day as i played enough games with salty players so i could just care less.

But still insulting staff in OOC or ahelp is not allowed. So i would first tell him to cut the shit then give him a warning and a note. If he continues another warning with a mute and if he doesn't stop a ban so that he can chill out. Staff are not people getting payed from this, they are just players that want to make sure all enjoy this game. So most of them do not need to take the shit for a salty player.

A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp?
IC issue, Falling SSD happens to both xenos and marines so it might suck but it is a part of the game.

I would just inform in a peaceful way that all is a ic issue.

You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule.
If it is just a mistake i would inform that staff member that it should be so or "Wasn't always like that?". If i missed a fact or log that they did not or a rule 0 i would just leave it.

If i believe its incorrect still i would try to get some proof discreetly and show it to the higher ups.

If it is malicious i would try to quickly contact a higher up about this.

Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do?
If i believe that the action was right, i would just leave it. If wrong is still not me to decide if i am not a senior or anything higher.

If it was purely wrong i would just take it private to higher up.

Why would you like to become a moderator?
Always wished to help community and help new players.

In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator?
Applying the rule enforcement equally and professionalism.

    Anything else you
    No i guess.

I'll be honest my dude. Your English has improved but there's still work to be done. While your answers are very, basic, they answer the questions with a few issues.

Your application seems very oddly formatted. Like you built it pre-typed. Came back, change it a bit and did that a few times from your prose. Which makes me believe you just looked at accepted apps and copied the answers in your own words. (Which is every app amirite?) But I have a few additional questions/situations for you

    1. A medic has used suxomorfyn to knock out a marine to heal them, they heal the marine and then walk away. Marine ahelps they were griefed cause the medic stunned them and walked away. What do you do?

    2. Someone broke into the CO's office and stole Jones. CO BE's the thief. What do you do?

    3. Your friend wants to play the game with you and he keeps talking about stuff that's happend like how he got shot by the sniper spec at containers cause the queen was there. What do you do?

    4. You see in dsay someone calling another player a nigger. What do you do?

    5. MP's are arresting any and all marines not on the dropship/deployed an hour into the round. What do you do?

    6. What was the pushing point for you to apply to mod?

    7. What do you think is your best quality as a potential mod?

    8. What is your biggest weakness as a potential mod?

    9. How was your day?

Hello CryoDrake, thank you for applying for the Moderation Team.

You said it's an IC issue, nothing needs to be done on this situation, even if he has notes.

I would tell him the proper time or set it myself.
    set it myself.
In no situation you should involve ICly on that or any other situation, those kind of matters should be able to be fixed thru admin helps or simply by PMing.

Moderation cannot fax USCM or W-Y without an fax being sent to us, you can SM the Commander, but usually XOOCing it to Xenos solve the problem.

You will never handle your own ahelp or issues. The best course of action on this case, if no staff is able to help, is doing an player report.

That's one of the difficult ones where the staff interpretation is in play. Unique items like Portable T-comms items, Specialist weapons, Low count attachments as Barrel Chargers and some role unique equipment like data detectors are bound to Rule 4 - No grefing on the following point: Major shenanigans that may disrupt the normal flow of the round are not allowed at roundstart. This includes big or lethal fights, briefing brawls, riots, and massive equipment restrictions. By the time one unique item is stolen, E.G: the Scout Battle Rifle and cannot be found, and that happens before deployment on the process of deploying, it constitutes griefing.

If it would be extremely sever like breaking the flow of the round
Having said all above, it dosen't need to be extremely server breaking, if it disrupts the game for one player with an special role and gear, it's an rule break and should be treated accordingly.

A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
    This is griefing.

I would check if he has any notes. If he doesn't have then a 7 days ban and if he has a perma filling.
This is no brainer, Usually View Variables tells you all the information you want to know, remember escalation when this issue is an 2nd or 3rd offense.

There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
As long as the comments are IC, and not spam or over the top, it is an IC issue.

I would notify the offended player about this.
This is one where you need to watch the interactions before making an call. Here is some examples:

Random PFC says, "Heyyyy, what's up my niggas?" - Allowed, we call this Marine Bravado, it's RP therefore not harmful.

Random player (L)OOC after some random fact, : "Faggot, bitch, nigger, i hope you die in hell." Agressive Racism + Cursing, player should be PMed and asked to tone it down and noted.

Exception: Events and if some Survivor managed to reach up an Fax and send Almayer an Fax, mainly on prison station, and with this new Expected Contact RP test we're running, you'll have to investigate the origin of the information before any conclusions.

Dosen't need to be a VERY good RP. Marines Killing each other on pods are the few small instances where that would be allowed as it is an Life-or-death scenario, so it would be a legit reason, but still dosen't hurt to investigate.

We have an Auto-response for that.

Would be nice to be discrete when solving those matters, myself pm people all the time to ask things that i don't know off, DM on discord would be nice. IF Maliciously, you should take this to the Mod Manager.

After reviewing this and this your second application, i quote daturix, you improved a lot, but you still seem to have a VERY basic grasp of the rules, you know it's wrong but don't know why.

You have the passion for it, but you don't have the grasp for it, If you desire to help the community, please consider applying for a Community Mentor as they will be implemented very soon, but for Moderator, i have to say -1 and one thing i noticed:

In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator?
Applying the rule enforcement equally and professionalism.
Sorry, but i fail to see your professionalism on this application.

I suggest you to consider the position of Community Mentor or read more the Rules, watch the #staff-help and #gameplay-help channels to see how we deal with stuff and try again on the future.

I echo the statements of Hunk and Daturix. You need to improve your English and learn our rules better. Mentor may be a more appropriate role for you at this time.

I do not think your english is too weak for the role. But I do not think you have what it takes, yet. Keep playing on the server, interact with us and the other players on discord, and re-apply at a later date.

    1. A medic has used suxomorfyn to knock out a marine to heal them, they heal the marine and then walk away. Marine ahelps they were griefed cause the medic stunned them and walked away. What do you do?

Well the first thing is that suxomortyn is used in surgeries because of 100% success rate but gives paralysis. I would check the logs and speak with the doctors on alamayer to see if Cmo or someone allowed the medics to have it with them. If he did not allowed the drug them why does the medic has it would be a IC issue for the MPs to deal with it as it would be contraband.

Now if the medic had problems in the round with the marine when he tried to patch him ( not allowing him, running from him, punching him) then, the medic had the right to paralyze him to heal him. I would tell the marine to allow medics to heal him next time.

In case the medic has notes about this behavior of using the drug to heal people, then a note and a ban accordingly would work for him.

All depends were did the medic healed the marine too. As one is for a guy to be healed on frontlines and another at fob.

    2. Someone broke into the CO's office and stole Jones. CO BE's the thief. What do you do?

Well what the thief did would be theft + trespassing which in total would be around 60 minutes for max and returning Jones and min 10 minutes and still returning Jones.

A CO is allowed to BE people but usually they need to fulfill one of the conditions: threat to command, threat to persons or threat to ship. The stealing of Jones doesn't go in any condition so the be would be invalid.

If the thief wants to report the Co for improper BE use i would give him the link were he can make a report about the CO's BE. As the CO is a whitelist role and only the council can deal with it.

    3. Your friend wants to play the game with you and he keeps talking about stuff that's happend like how he got shot by the sniper spec at containers cause the queen was there. What do you do?

The first thing is if he is talking with me using the discord/any chat room or ahelps or through character chat. In case of a chat room or discord i would tell him to stop speaking using that as it is metacommunication and i would give him a warning and a note as the round did not ended. In case of ahelps i would give him a note and a warning as he is abusing ahelp.

Now him getting hit by a sniper bullet is FF which happens all rounds so i would not aheal if he asks to.

    4. You see in dsay someone calling another player a nigger. What do you do?

I would tell that guy to stop saying nigger in dsay and give him a warning and a note. If he continues a mute, a note and in case he has notes about this, then a ban.

    5. MP's are arresting any and all marines not on the dropship/deployed an hour into the round. What do you do?

It depends if the commander ordered the mps to brig any marines not deployed. If the commander ordered this, all would fall under NOD and in case the commander warned those people but they did not listen to him then insub too.

If co did not ordered this and MPs are arresting random marines on ship i would check. I would check every mp's notes first. Then if i find that the MPs have no notes i would use LOOC or OOC to tell them to stop arresting marines if not ordered or a good reason, then i would give them all a warning and a note. In case i find notes at some MPs about random arrests then i would speak with them and give them a note and a ban accordingly.

This is mostly a IC issue as long as the MPs were ordered.

    6. What was the pushing point for you to apply to mod?

Meeting a lot of new players that i wanted to help.

    7. What do you think is your best quality as a potential mod?

To be fair, it is the quality that all potential and actual mods have. And that is rule enforcement.

    8. What is your biggest weakness as a potential mod?

I think it is that i like to take a slow approach to do not miss details.

    9. How was your day?
    Good, thanks.

Thank you for taking your time to answer my additional questions.

    1. Medic shouldn't have this for any reason and its grief if used.

    2. Only one crime can be committed over resisting arrest.

    3. So you would still stay in call/chat with them and not notify your manager or other mods at all?

    7. Rule enforcement. That's not exactly a quality but a requirement and foundation of the job.

    9. Not the answer I was looking for. While this is an application to moderate a 2d vertical pixel simulator, these apps are to be taken seriously to a degree. While you display knowledge of what should be done on a standard every case basis, that can be easily chalked up to just looking at a rule and making a base assumption. This question was answered in low detail and doesn't show much enthusiasm or degree of being friendly with your potential fellow staff to actively engage.

With your application, word from other moderators and these answers I believe you'd fit in perfectly with our mentor team but the moderation job is not your cup of tea my guy. Good luck on your endeavors and thank you for being in our community.

So I've reviewed this, and I'll say your English has improved a bit since the last application, however it is still a bit too poor for me.
Now that we're starting up the community mentor program, I am going to encourage you to apply for that instead when it opens up.

If you do get accepted and do well, maybe we can talk about you joining the mod team. But on this application it's going to be a no for now.
