Common Staff Situations
A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him. Do my best to find the intent of the shooter. If it was unintentional (EX. they fired one shot and immediately apologized, or were disarmed while holding a gun) then I would leave it IC. If they had the intent to grief then I would inform them that they have violated rule 4. I would then issue either a warning or ban depending on note history and the severity of the incident. After that was all finished I would aheal those affected by the griefer.
A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do? This is a white list issue. I would direct the player to make a player report on the forums and then investigate the incident. I would do this so that I could collect logs/testimonies in case the player did make a report.
You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart. Inform a community mentor. If none are online then I would take it upon myself to teach the player how to play the game.
A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member. Inform him that he doesn't get to pick which staff member deals with his ahelp (or rule break). I would note him for being rude in ahelps. If despite my warnings he persisted then I would either mute him from ahelps or issue a 3 hour ban due to it being a violation of rule 3.
A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this? Inform the player that his name is a violation of rule 12 and ask him what he would like to change it to. Note him for the incident and ensure that he has read our rules, the naming rule is one of the easiest to follow and him breaking it may be an indicator that he doesn't know our other rules as well. Also tell him to make sure to change it in his character preferences.
You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point. This is an IC issue. I would keep an eye on the MT to ensure that doesn't do anything against the rules with said rifle.
A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this? I would check the logs and ask both sides for their story. If I determined that the survivor was outright hostile then I would leave it as an IC issue. If they weren't outright hostile then I would issue a warning or ban/job ban from survivor, while ahealing those who were affected.
You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around. I would ask the arresting MP for his side of the story. Theft and trespassing are both have a maximum of 30 minutes brig time, and only one charge can be applied for this incident. The only way that the prisoner could be lawfully permabrigged would be if he resisted arrest.
If the MP and logs confirmed that the prisoner resisted arrest then I would leave this as an IC issue. If the MP stacked Theft and trespassing to justify permabrig then I would tell them to lower the sentence of the prisoner and note/job ban them depending on note history.
The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other? QM the queen telling her to lead the hive into a final attack against the marines. Correct me if I'm wrong, but xenos HAVE to listen to the queen mother and this should be the only action that I need to take.
You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation? Ahelp it, since I am involved with this incident I should not be the one handling it.
The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended. Inform them that hostile factions are still allowed to fight each other after round end without getting banned for EORG.
A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims. Investigate and ensure that this is actually happening. If it was then I would PM the player asking what the deal is and to ensure that they know that this is against the rules, and then note/ban according to their history.
You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him. Tell them that they violated rule 14, and depending on their note history warn/ban. I would aheal the affected player.
You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation? I would either use LOOC or MOOC to tell the group that the leader needs to ahelp before they go through with the mutiny. If the reason for the mutiny wasn't adequate then I would tell them to shut it down.
There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it. Minor racism is fine, but since a player is bothered by it then I would LOOC/MOOC the group asking them to tone it down. I wouldn't note anybody in this instance.
A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off. 7 day ban and apply for perma. Aheal those affected by the griefer.
You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die. PM the player asking why they ran towards the front line. For example, if the front lines were in the central caves on LV where most larva would presume it safe then I would tell the player to be more careful. If they just blatantly ran into the marines for no apparent reason then I would warn/job ban them from xeno depending on history.
You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen. Pm the player and inform them of our roleplay rules. warn/job ban depending on their history.
A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship". Inform them that xeno hivemind is an English translation of their thoughts, and calling things by their English names is allowed.
A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this. I would inform them that despite the expecting contact test they still don't know that there are xenos planetside. This would be a warning+note.
You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him. Ensure that the marine was actually killing for the spot on the EVAC pod. If they killed them despite there being enough spots would be a violation of rule 4. If There weren't enough spots then I would leave this as an IC issue.
A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'. Either ignore it or PM the player telling them to stop, and that the correct thing to do if they disagree with my decision would be to make a staff report. If they persist then I would give them a 3 hour ban.
A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp? Inform him that getting face hugged while SSD is an IC issue, and that if he wants to get it removed he can go shipside for surgery.
You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule. If they gave incorrect game information then I would just tell them. If they incorrectly enforced a rule I would take it to the mod manager.
Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do? Take it to the mod manager.
Why would you like to become a moderator? To give back to the community, and because I believe I would enjoy it.
In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator? To be willing to learn from their mistakes.
Anything else you I understand my activity as of late hasn't been that good. But I can assure you that I will be able to moderate 7-21 hours a week as a lot of IRL stuff is finishing pretty soon, giving me more time to play.
