Common Staff Situations
A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him. PM the player and ask them as to why they had decided to shoot someone and check notes to see if they have a past of griefing. If it was an accident ask them to be more careful. If it was them just griefing leave a note and let it remain IC. If they have had a past with it apply punishment depending on severity of past notes.
A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do? Tell the player the name of the Predator (not Ckey) and direct them to make a player report. I would then go through logs and gather evidence and bring it to the Council.
You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart. PM them asking if the equine help and direct them to the Mhelp section.
A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member. Ask them to tone it down and if they feel that they have been wronged direct them to make a staff report about it. If the continue to persist in Ahelps mute them.
A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this? Check their notes to see if this has been a problem in the past. If not tell them to change their name next round and ask for a temporary name fro the rest of the round.
If it has been a problem in the past rule 12 break and depending on the severity of past notes apply a reasonable punishment. (Most likely a 3 hour ban).
You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point. Make sure it isn’t a rule 6 break, and if they aren’t breaking any rules, IC Issue.
A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this? Currently we are not allowing hostile survivors and tell the survivor that they are no longer allowed to be hostile and to look over the rules again. If it has been a problem in the past apply a punishment depending on history of notes.
You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around. PM the MP to check over marine law and see through their notes to see if it has happened before hand. If it has J-ban from MP/CMP and 3 hour ban. If it hasn’t been problem before hand inform them to strictly follow and enforce ML ad to release the marine from Permanent Confinement.
The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other? QM the aliens for one final battle and HC the marines to deploy to eliminate the dwindling Xeno menace.
You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation? Ahelp the situation and do my best IC to handle the situation.
The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended. Inform he CLF that EORG only applies to injuring friendlies intentionally and also self harm.
A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims. Rule 4 breach- PM the marine and ask them as to why they are griefing. Check notes to see if this has been a problem in the past then apply punishment from there.
You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him. Check logs to see if this story adds up and if so, check the notes of the shooter to see if this has been a problem in the past. Then apply punishment/note that is most appropriate for improper escalation.
If it was proper escalation then leave it as IC Issue.
You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation? PM or MOOC that this mutiny is not valid and that they need to go through the requirements and Ahelp it. If they do ahelp it and fulfill the requirements I would then allow it but remind them that it is a rule break to mutiny without having the valid reason and ahelp.
There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it. Inform the Ahelper that it is ok to have minor racism IC and if they truly feel that it was offensive they can make a player report of the situation.
A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off. 24 hour ban for griefing and investigate to see if this has been a problem in the past. If so then 7 day ban and file for permanent.
You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die. PM the player asking as to why they had become a combat larvae and check notes to see if this has been a problem before hand. If it has job ban them and if not leave a note and ask them to be more careful.
You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen. Check to see if there have been notes of netspeak before hand and PM the player to please refrain from using netspeak wording. If it has been a problem go off of how severe the notes are for punishment.
A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship". Inform the Ahelper that in the rules it says that the Hivemind is an interpretation of English and words like, ’dropship’, and ‘Hydro’ and perfectly acceptable.
A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this. Inform the Command staff that even with Expected Contact ruling, you do NOT know that the xenos are on the planet. Once you find out it is Xenos you have basic knowledge like knowing they have a Queen that lays eggs and the names of the Xenomorphs.
You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him. Look into logs to make sure that it was RP and not a grief in hiding. If it is in fact RP I would say IC Issue. But if there is evidence that it was grief I would check the notes of the murder to see if this has been a problem in the past and go on from there.
A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'. I’d just tough it out, but if it does eventually lead to annoying me I’d inform a fellow staff of the situation in case I am biased of the situation.
A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp? IC Issue: Tell the player that unfortunately when you’re SSD you are not immune to attacks.
You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule. Inform the staff member that they had made a mistake and correct them of their wrong doings.
Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do? Inform the managers of the situation and give my side of the story.
Why would you like to become a moderator? I have always enjoyed being apart of this community and I do enjoy helping people out. When I tend to play CM at times I rarely see Moderators on which has its impacts on the rounds.
In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator? Moderators should be able to keep a cool head during tough situations, have patience, and are non-biased.
