Common Staff Situations
A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him. Let the MPs handle the player using Marine Law, which could be perma or execution. Monitor closely but only intervene if adminhelp is used. If so, remind the offender of Rule 4 breach and he should respect Marine Law.
A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do? Check the standing rule for the honor code of alleged breach. Cite and explain why it is or is not a breach. If the offender repents or if the situation is accidental, remind how the predator should be aware of it and can risk removal of whitelisting the next time.
You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart. If the player has a minor role, leave the player alone to figure things out or let others guide them IC or LOOC. Only intervene if adminhelp is used. If the player has a critical role, remind the player about the rules and suggest them to take a smaller role first.
A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member. Be as objective as possible and try to understand if there is a legit request underneath the hostilities. If the player is trolling despite addressing their concerns or explaining, then ignore his request.
A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this? Talk to the John Doe marine, tell them they are in breach of Rule 12 and should rename their characters ASAP. If they comply, continue as usual.
You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point. Let the CE, MPs handle the player via Marine Law. Monitor closely but only intervene if adminhelp is used.
A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this? Survivors are allowed some leeway but outright hostility is a breach of RP standards. If adminhelp is used, warn them and remind them of the RP standard. If they fail to uphold, ban them for the round.
You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around. Ask player how long they have been in. If within 10 -30 mins, check if MP forgot to let them out. Remind MP to let them out within given punishment.
The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other? Try to prevent a stalemate. Ask Commander and Queen why they aren't pushing. Try to address their concerns even if it means giving more resources if requested to both sides to incentivise them to fight each other.
You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation? Tell the medic to stop ODing your patients via :m. Be as specific about the victims as possible. If they continue to do so, you can complain the CMO, SLs or MPs. If no action from CMO, SLs, or MPs, tip off the admin using ahelp.
The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended. EORG should result in immediate round ban. Ban offending marine. Revive victim.
A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims. Ask them if they have approached the MPs first to lodge the complaint and let the MPs handle them via Marine Law. If there is no one to enforce Marine Law, confront the player and remind them of Rules 3 and 4, and the next offense is a round ban.
You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him. Remind murderer of Rule 14. Next offense is immediate round ban. Revive dead player, tell them to report to MPs first.
You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation? Down all offenders and interrogate them. Remind them of any breach of Rule 17 Mutinies. Ask them to stand down or face round ban.
There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it. Remind server about Rule 3 without specifying anyone, highlighting racist remarks may result in a round ban. If the player points out a specific person, warn the offender about Rule 3 personally too.
A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off. Ban the marine for 3 hours. Instantly heal all victims.
You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die. Let the Queen govern the actions of the larva since they have to obey her orders absolutely.
You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen. Warn Xenos in general without specifying anyone about keeping to RP standards as they are supposed to be subservient to the Queen with no will or have any knowledge of human culture beyond what is shown in the world itself.
A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship". Within RP standards as the Xeno hive mind is an English translation of their thoughts, so words such as “hydro” or “shuttle” are acceptable.
A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this. Warn command staff or Rule 6 for meta-gaming and they can risk removal of whitelisted roles on further meta-gaming.
You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him. Try to establish if the attacker's actions was justified by RP standards. For example, if there is an immediate danger such as xenos in melee range of both parties, then it is likely the attacker's actions do follow RP standard. Give the attacker a stern warning on Rules 3 and 4 anyway. Revive the victim if there is no immediate danger to play for the rest of the evac.
A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'. Ignore them as long as they follow your warning.
A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp? Tell him that if he needs to log off but can't get to cryo, he should send an ahelp otherwise risk a job ban if it's an important job
You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule. Send a PM to the fellow admin and cite them the correct rule to make sure they send corrected info to the target themselves. If they refuse and disagree despite evidence, tell admin you will remind the target yourself and then do so.
Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do? State my own interpretation and choice and all admins decide again based on a vote.
Why would you like to become a moderator? Heard there is a mod shortage and I'd like to help to keep the fun of CM alive
In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator? How will my action/inaction through my interpretation of the server rules impact the level of uninterrupted in-character enjoyment and engagement for all of the players in the round?
Anything else you This is a disclaimer that I haven't experienced all the roles (all whitelisted roles, SOs, XOs, ROs), as well as not spending a lot of time playing as a Xeno yet.
