    Destrok - Synthetic Application

    Synthetic Whitelist Application
    Byond ID?
    Destrok

    Marine Name
    Manuel Conrad

    Other Whitelist Applications
    //showthrea...ja-Application (Predator Whitelist App. Accepted)

Name of the Synth Character you wish to play
    Thomas

Are you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines?
Yes, I've read them quite a few times and I'll have them open my first few rounds.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.
A Synthetic unit is able to perform combat only in absolutely critical situations.
Their programming includes a self-preservation clause, and they are unable to use firearms, so their only method of fighting is via melee - and this is inherently risky when fighting Xenomorphs, so it should only be done when engaging the Xeno yields a higher chance of survival/would mean taking less damage than ignoring or running from it. They cannot be ordered to perform active frontline fighting, not by anyone, not even the Sky Marshal. They are also forced to avoid suicidal orders, further reinforcing their incapacity to engage in combat. Yet, many synths will be forced to fight to defend themselves or USCM personnel, HOWEVER - if they manage to force an enemy to retreat, it is not their job to pursue it and confirm the kill - that is best left to marines, and pursuing a Xeno is borderline suicidal.

They cannot harm USCM personnel at all, so they may not partake in combat against them, even if they break Marine Law. They may use minimal force to subdue them to protect innocent bystanders, victims or themselves.

They can engage any non-USCM personnel, as long as they have a good reason to. However, they may not partake in combat of any kind on the front-lines.

Example of valid Synth combat scenario: You are at the Hydroponics dome on LV-624, and you receive a heartbroken patient from the Barrens. You try to use your stretcher to evacuate them, but the CASEVAC PO is, as they often are, incompetent, and seems to have installed two Fulton modules on his dropship. You place your patient in a roller-bed and start making the trip from Hydroponics to the LZ1 FOB - unfortunately, Bravo have been slacking and did not secure Hydro Road - a Lurker pounces out of the tallgrass and begins slashing you. You are able to use weaponry at your disposal, typically a fire axe, machete or entrenching tool, to fend off the Lurker.
You manage to beat it so hard that it splashes you with acid, hisses and runs off into the jungle. Rather than chasing it, you grab the roller bed and finish taking your patient to the LZ.
(Another completely valid approach is to fucking ignore the lurker and run off with your roller-bed, you're fast enough and most lurker players are bad enough for you to be able to do this. And also heartbroken patients are top priority, so your seconds are precious. This situation could also be avoided by requesting a Marine escort.)

Example of invalid Synth combat scenario: You are at a beach-head forward fortification on LV-624, on the Barrens. You use your binoculars to look for dead bodies - instead you find an Ancient Praetorian who got sent into critical state by a stray bullet. You flip down the barricade and rush forwards, fire axe in hand, and slam his ass into the ground, then also kill the Runner who was dragging him back - afterwards you wield the fire axe and run directly at the Queen, chopping her into green-fleshy bits as you scream "OORAH I LOVE THE CORPS" and the Captain runs forward, crying, as he prints a Medal of Exceptional Heroism and plants it on your uniform.
(This is invalid because it is not your job to perform active frontline combat. You are putting yourself in needless danger to perform something which you are forbidden from doing, something that is completely outside of your competence, and even if it favours the marine side and it is completely viable, is poor RP and violates the Guidelines in many ways. Even if it is kind of epic.)

    Synthetic Character Story
    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing
It's not really meant to be enjoyable as a story. I'm a bad writer and I know it. I just wanted to meet all the criteria necessary for the story (600words, displays quirk, no synth-law breaks, good grammar), so I hope you don't dismiss my app based just on the story. Please do ask questions in regards to my ingame knowledge, etc.

What is your Synths quirk and personality?
Thomas considers the mental health of humans as important as their physical health and will attempt to tend to it whenever he has downtime and if his patient is willing. He speaks with a formal tone, but when talking privately to a patient lowers his tone and speaks more informally, to make them feel more comfortable.

How familiar are you with Engineering?
I have, as of writing, 53 hours of Maintenance Technician - as well as many unregistered hours of Squad Engineer, and the first Marine squad I joined was Bravo. I know my way around Engineering and I can build an FOB that can secure an evac. I also know some of the more obscure parts of Engineering such as the camera network, and I know what I can do to assist Engineering efforts on the ground apart from building.
I also am one of the few people on the server who main Survivor and that comes with its own share of Engineering tricks such as shocking doors, crushing doors, use of motor-speed, bolting, powering, et-cetera, as well as ghetto fortifications with camera monitors, filing cabinets, fax machines, vendors and the like.

tl;dr Familiar enough for a Synth whitelist but not top-of-the-line.

How familiar are you with Command?
A Synth shouldn't ever be put on overwatch, it is a gross misuse of their skills and they can't even fire the Orbital Cannon. Regardless, I'm experienced enough in Command to use the Overwatch console and the Communications console, as well as knowing how to use the Squad-Distribution console, etc. As for ACTUAL commanding, such as battlefield tactics and strategies and leading men, this isn't really something a Synth is ought to be doing, but I feel experienced enough with the game to perform that duty if need be...for whatever reason. I also know the effects of Orders and their importance. (The active abilities.)

tl;dr Familiar enough, but not CO-whitelist-tier.

How familiar are you with Medical?
I am more than comfortable with the Medical system in CM-SS13, I've played a fair bit of Squad Medic, Doctor and CMO, and I'm happy to say I've never ever (ACCIDENTALLY) overdosed someone, I know the purpose of all the chemicals in the Lifesaver belt, I can perform all types of surgery, I know the important chemistry recipes by heart and the rarer ones I can just look up. I understand how to perform triage, the proper use of holo-cards, where and when to treat someone at the front, how to revive people with high damage counts, and I am aware of every ailment a human can suffer on CM. I also know some of the lesser-known medical tricks such as Bicaridine OD for fixing IB and Peridaxon to temporarily aid eye/brain damage. I am by no means a Medical main but I believe my competence in Medical is good enough for the Synth role. If you have doubts, shoot me a ping on Discord and I'll play Medic for your squad or something.

    tl;dr Very familiar.

How familiar are you with Requisitions?
I've run RO enough times to be comfortable with Req, I'm aware of the supplies that marines need the most, I know what duties a CT should be doing (Ammo box assembly, backpack filling, FOB-overseeing) and I've never really been bitched at as RO, most people just tell me I do a good job and I usually even have enough time to cook the FOB squad lunch or something. I know how to hack the ASRS console to enable black-market crates and I'm aware of common req practices (Banning HEFA, not distributing specialist ammo at round-start (especially if they don't have supply comms), disassembly of expendable furniture to stockpile metal (with command permission).)
I am, once again, not a Req main, but I'm familiar enough with it to be able to run it reliably on any given round and not be blamed for the marines' defeat.

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?
I find the role very interesting and I deeply enjoy all support areas of CM, but am frustrated at being restricted to doing only ONE per round. It's something I've said many times and it seems like the Synth role is the only way to overcome this. Synths are perceived as high-RP which will encourage a lot more people to come up and RP with me, which I'd really enjoy, as being able to RP is a rare occassion for me, but when it does happen it's usually super enjoyable, and I create memories that I'll keep for a long time. I also find the concept of Survivor-Synth very interesting, and Survivor itself is already a higher-than-average RP role, so combining it with the Synth whitelist can only be good. The role of Synth itself isn't taken up on most rounds I play, so I feel like I might wanna change that, as the role is one that grants a lot of unique RP opportunities and a TON of utility for the Marine side.

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason? Do you have any active jobbans?
    No, never.

Are you currently banned from our Discord, and if so, why?
    No, never.

Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?
I am not familiar with Research except its bare basics.

I can do cooking, which is one of my human character's favourite things. I know how to stack sandwiches! Did you know you can make fortune cookies with paper in them? It'll read whatever you wrote on it before baking it.
I thought that was pretty cool. Seriously though we need a proper cookbook. Bay's is outdated.

I've played my fair share of MP and some SEA and I am familiar with Marine Law and the SOP. The only times I've ever been brigged, was once falsely in a player report I made resolved in my favour, and as a survivor when I consciously committed assault with a deadly weapon on somebody who attacked Lisa (LV-624 dog, Secure Dome) and mutilated her (Lisa's) corpse. (Don't worry, there was proper escalation.)

Also, I'm really good at roller-bedding people on the fly even without a pull macro.

You may find my melee abilities unsuitable but I've won my fair share of pred spars, and I'm sure I'll get better.

I don't really excel at any area of support but I know what I'm doing far better than most players. I wouldn't be applying for Synthetic if I didn't - in fact, I wanted to apply for Synth practically after my first month of playing, before I even thought about becoming a Predator. But the role intimidated me too much and I figured I should know how to do well in each area of support before applying. And, now I do.

Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
    Yes

Do you understand that you cannot advertise your application on any platform for votes. Do you also understand you may not edit this application 1 hour after it has been posted?
    Yes

Story is solid, I've seen Destrok in game myself and to me he's a guy who knows what he's doing. Overall, this app deserves a solid +1
I play as Dawson Hook and Brad.

I've played with this guy numerous times before; good Survivor, knows his Meds. He's qualified for a Synth, and his RP is high for CM13 standards, and his story is simple, but effective.

What i know is he is great at survivor and CMO, i didn't really see him at engineering but survivor is pretty much engineer. So that's an easy +1 and this should be a resolved app very quickly, good luck synth!
