How do you view the tool of Battlefield Execution to be used? What circumstances do you think it would be necessary to BE a member of the crew? Where do you think the Battlefield Execution Mechanic Differs from regular Execution and why? My character perceives the value of the lives of her subordinates to be extremely high. Thus, the BE tool to Kyleigh is an absolute last resort solution to an immediate threat to other crew members, the integrity of the ship, or the chain of command. Any individual(s) who can be subdued and confined by Military Police will be. A Battlefield Execution from Kyleigh would require a threat greater than MP could deal with in a reasonable fashion or amount of time.
To give an example of when I would deem it necessary to BE someone: I have permitted a Marine charged with manslaughter an audience in CIC under MP escort to hear him out. I have decided to hear him out in CIC because my XO is groundside or absent, and I do not wish to leave the CIC in the hands of a Lieutenant. For whatever reason, the MP presents them uncuffed and unsearched. In the middle of our discussion, he knocks the MP over, pulls out his flamethrower and lights the MP on fire. His next course of action would be pretty obvious, and with no other MPs available and no other way to subdue them, I would be forced to BE the Marine.
The difference between Execution and Battlefield Execution is subtle, but very important in my opinion. Regular execution underlines the consequences for capital crimes against Military Law, and publicly states that those who do not adhere will be dealt with accordingly. To me, it is a statement. Battlefield Execution is a swift and decisive means to end an immediate and nearly out of control threat to the round or chain of command. It is a quickdraw punishment for the sake of preservation.
How will your Commanding Officer run his/her ship? Provide a detailed explanation on how he would handle situations that might commonly occur such as, a insubordinate Req, Engineering, MP, or Command Staff The lives of the Marines are the most important thing to Kyleigh. She will not order reckless charges into enemy lines, but will instead offer a slow and deliberate approach to the enemy that will minimize casualties. I will likely enforce readbacks on all CAS and OB information to ensure accuracy and that no friendly fire occurs as a result of these tools, even if it reduces their effectiveness against the enemy. This is not to say that Kyleigh would not take the initiative and be aggressive when necessary.
Kyleigh would likely try to sound out insubordinate personnel first before anything. No arrests or anything, just a quick chat to see what's wrong. Maybe they're having a bad day or their wife just divorced them and they need a little pep talk. People are more than mere machines, and need the necessary care and affection to do their jobs well. Kyleigh believes her job is to be a leader, not a dictator and is convinced that talking is just as effective as brute force, if not more so. Arrests would only be issued if they were continually insubordinate, or if they had opened hostilities upon Kyleigh or other parts of the crew. Is Delta rioting again over an MP making a justified arrest? She would likely give in and pardon the Marine in question to get the ship back on track as soon as possible. She lets go of any delusions of a sense of superiority, and can make compromises to keep things moving as they should be. She would be friendly to every Marine, and would do her best to make every Marine feel acknowledged and appreciated. Even PVT Howard, that guy nobody likes.
What do you think is the job of a Commander? The role of the CO is to provide top level direction to the Marine forces and ensure a swift and decisive victory. This means acting as a leader that inspires faith in his/her subordinates that you can get the job done, and that you know what you're doing. This, to me, means acting with confidence regardless of the level of confidence actually experienced by the person in the bubble, as any lack of confidence will be felt strongly as the orders trickle down. As well as acting with the highest degree of care and attentiveness to the scenario unfolding whilst keeping the ramifications of every order in mind, and projecting those consequences into the future.
Furthermore, the CO is responsible for maintaining discipline among the ranks of the Marine forces by enforcing Marine Law to prevent griefing, as well as to provide an enjoyable avenue for events to be carried out. The CO has a lot on his/her plate at any given moment but their decisions are the most critical, and their actions directly trickle down to affect the rounds of literally everybody else. Essentially, the CO controls the flow of the round both directly and indirectly. Through the use of troop movements all the way to letting that infected monkey burst in containment, they shape and mold each round to make it unique as no one else aboard the Almayer has the level of authority to influence events like they can. To sum it up, a CO's job is to help craft the story that the round is telling, one decision at a time.
As a player what do you think could be added for Commanding Officer to benefit the role? I know it’s been stated by Devs that it won’t be added, but I think an overwatch console in the bubble that could tap into the helmet cams of all non-squad crew would be great, personally.
What do you think you could contribute by being whitelisted? I hope to add more diversity to the pool of Commanding Officers. Frankly, I think diversity is what COs lack most as I feel the majority of players gravitate towards the 'old, gruff, "do anything to win", strict on rules' archetype. I want to give way to a new wave of interesting rounds that involves a lot of player-driven RP and decision making.
I will not Battlefield Execute an individual who refuses to deploy. Instead, I will invite them to CIC to discuss why they feel the way they do, and try to convince them to deploy. I want to be a forgiving CO that can accept the mistakes of others, and encourages everyone to do their best. I want winning to be second to preserving life in my CO's list of priorities. I will not make threats against potential mutinies, but instead try to talk it out and find a common solution. Not every CO needs to be an absolute autocrat.
But most of all, I want to be enjoyable. I'd never neglect the groundside operation, as that's a source of fun for many players, but often times there's a great degree of opportunity for shipside fun as well. And I will not neglect this either. In my opinion, this is where the real meat of the round grows and evolves, and I will do what I can to encourage people to get involved and experience a round that is both enjoyable and memorable.
