    Moderator Application

    Personal Information

    Byond ID?
    liltiptop

    CM Character?
    Nick 'Chief' Weller

    Are you 16 or older?
    Yes

    Timezone
    CST

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
7-12, but that could increase based on how much college work I have.

    Qualifications

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
    No.

Do you play any servers aside from CM-SS13?
    /vg/ station

Provide links to any previous Colonial Marines applications that you've made:
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
    No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
    No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for?
    Yes, on /vg/
I had some bans for making dangerous engines and once from sec for abuse of power both I think lasted more than a day.

These were back in 2016-2017 if I remember correctly, and those have all been resolved since then, I don't have any current bans.

Are you familiar with the chat program Discord (its use is required)?
    Yes

Communication is a vital part of being a Moderator. Are you willing to actively do so with the team?
    Yes.

    Common Staff Situations

A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
If it was an accidental discharge, let it play out as an IC issue. If they killed someone else on purpose, I'd let the MPs deal with the shooter and medbay revive the victim (if they shot the victim's head off, I'd revive them). I'd then leave a note and a warning if this was a first time offense, and if they have a history of this behavior I'd apply bans based on how many times they've done this.

A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do?
Tell the player to make a player report on the forums, and let them know that all issues with COs, Synths, and Predators are handled by their respective whitelists.

You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart.
Ask if they need help need help, and if there's a SEA online I'd let them know the player who's lost. If there's no SEA I'd have them mentorhelp and let mentors help out.

A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
Tell them that if they think i'm doing a bad job that they're welcome to make a report on me on the forums. But they don't get a choice of who deals with what.

A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this?
Let them know that those type of names aren't allowed, and link them to rule 12 if they want to know what names to avoid. I'd then rename them and tell them to change their name before next round, and leave a note that says they've been warned not to use names that break rule 12.

You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point.
It seems like an IC issue to me, let the MPs work it out. If it's getting to the point of stealing and griefing then I'd deal with it.

A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this?
Tell the survivor that being hostile to marines isn't allowed, even if they declare their intentions. Then I'd just leave a note, and move on.

You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around.
I'd tell the MP to look over marine law again, and to release the prisoner. I'd also tell them if they have any questions on sentencing to ask the CMP or a mentor. If this was to grief, I'd give them a ban on MP and leave a note on this behavior.

The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
With 4 Xenos left, I'd Queen Mother message the Xenos to fight with everything they've got. I'd also tell the Captain or XO via subtle messages that they feel that they can easily take out the remaining Xenos, and they should lead a search and destroy operation.

You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation?
Ahelp the situation, and inform a staff member what happened. I'd also tell them IC that they're overdosing people.

The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended.
EORG only applies to two people shooting each other that are on the same side, so I'd let them know what happened was valid.

A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims.
Tell the marine to calm down, and let them know what they're doing falls under the griefing rule. Give them a warning and a note, If they do it again give them a ban.

You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him.
Inform the murderer that that was not a good escalation of conflict, and remind them of rule 14. Then I'd either leave a note and warning if it was a first time problem and let the MPs deal with it. If it was a reoccurring thing then I'd give them a ban.

You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation?
MOOC say that the mutiny is not valid, and to not mutiny at this time. If I get a lot of people asking why the mutiny isn't valid then I'd send a message via MOOC/PMs to look at Rule 17.

There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
Let them know that it's fine for roleplay purposes, and that they're welcome to make a player report. If it gets to the point where the 1 person keeps ahelping over multiple rounds I'd inform the person making the remarks to tone it down a bit.

A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
Heal/revive all injured marines and then give a permaban to the shooter.

You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die.
Ask them why they did that, first off, and if they didn't know what they were doing I'd leave a note and ask a mentor if they could help the player learn how to play Xeno. If it was intentional I'd give them Xeno bans for griefing and leave a note.

You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen.
Give them a warning PM that internet speak isn't allowed, as well as insulting the Queen and then leave a note. If they continue to do this give them a Xeno ban.

A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship".
Inform them that Xeno speak is the English translation of the hivemind. It's fine to say metal bird or dropship.

A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this.
PM the command staff player that the marines know Xenos exist, but they don't know that they're on the planet. Give them a warning not to continue doing that, because it's considered as metagaming, and then leave a note saying that they've been told not to do that again.

You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him.
Log dive to see if they were RPing or not, if they were, I'd let the victim know that it was roleplayed out, and is an IC issue. If they just randomly shot some marine I'd leave a note on the shooter or a marine ban if they have history of shooting people for no reason. I wouldn't revive the shot marine because the round's almost over if marines are evacuating, they can get revived by a medic.

A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'.
I really don't mind. If they kept messaging me I'd just mute them.

A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp?
Tell them sorry but I can't do anything about that, just as how I can't do anything about an SSD Xeno getting killed.

You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule.
I'd message the staff member that they gave the wrong information or enforced a rule incorrectly. If they constantly give wrong information or enforce a rule incorrectly i'd make a report.

Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do?
Message a supervisor and let them know the situation.

Why would you like to become a moderator?
This game has given me tons and tons of free entertainment, and I'd like to contribute back to it.

In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator?
    Politeness.

    Thanks for applying for Moderator.

A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do? - Perfect but if you want, pulling logs for the report helps the council a great ton.

Answers are great overall and you're a decent player/discord member and I'd love to have ya aboard. You've made mistakes in the past and people change and I have no problem with you joining and you've been good for the most part.

1+ from me and I wish you luck friend.

    Decent application, with an error;

You receive an Ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around.
You forget to investigate and see if anyone is lying. Or investigate in general. ALWAYS investigate Ahelps first before performing any administrative action.

Your history could be a bit cleaner, but I don't mind see you on trial.
