    Curious to see discussions about shotguns are against the hive.

    As a Slug main I can tell you only one thing: If you try to be a lone hero as beno, you will have a hard time countering shotguns.
    Where one beno lacks, two benos rocks.

    If we are talking buckshot, most "true" combat castes either have ways to pounce from beyond of its range, or have a range attack. By "true" combat castes I mean Runners, Warriors, Lurkers, Ravs, Preatorians, Sentinels and Spitters. Those castes reliably beat 1vs1 marine on equal, or worse skill level.
    To this list you can also add Carrier, Hivelord, Crusher and Boiler (No point in mentioning Queen), because they can't be stunned by any for of conventional small firearm.
    I guess you could ask admin to spawn you as beno in Thunderdome and then spawn a marine in light armor with shotgun loaded with buckshot. If it won't be some robusto as marine, you will beat them 90% of the time as each of those mentioned benos (with maybe Runner as exeption and Boiler if you miss your acid spray).

    Shotguns might seem to be hard to counter, because more than a half of marines uses them. And Great majority loads buckshot. Even current "Robust" meta involves having two weapons. Pulse Rifle to suppress and Shotgun to kill.
    No, you won't win against a Marine with buckshot shotgun as a Drone outside of him missing one and you getting lucky disarm. No, you won't win against a Marine with BS shotgun as a Defender. No, you won't win against a marine with BS shotgun as burrower.
    But you will slaughter a marine with pulse rifle as defender quite easly. What is the difference? Stun. Are there any other options? Remove stun and shotgun becomes worse than M39 (that is why you don't see marines using Flechette outside of loading it into MOU alongside slug and slug is only there because buckshot isn't allowed. Add damage so it won't need stun, but then every T1 will cease to exist after one PB.

    I don't use buckshot and I don't really care about its state. But my final opinion is: Git Gud.

    The day buckshot with magharness is nerfed is the day that you see a lot of veterans quit. It is the only and I mean only viable counter to lurkers/runners/ and very frankly queens and tier 3's that get cocky because most can shrug off rifle bullets.

    Shotguns aren't as strong as they used to be.

    That's not an excuse to rush a semi component marine with buckshot though.
