1 shotgun shot and you are dead, the shotungs are OP.
I mean, I want to be totally clear here--Shotgun generally DO have a lot of kick. Especially slugs. One-handed shooting them is possible but it does numb your hand and arm after a while, and the amount of flinching you'd get from anticipation would make accuracy... really bad, especially if you have one in each hand. You also can't square up and shoot both back to back, because without a bladed stance you'll probably knock yourself over. So if someone is going to complain about one-handed shotguns causing damage being "unrealistic", they're really skipping over a lot of other, more valid complaints before they get to that point.

Pyro is amazing, but it’s not a one hit kill...
I'd like to say that shotguns fundamentally change the nature of every engagement they're used in. It's a whole different story to fight three marines with rifles than three marines with even one shotgun.
Simply the fact that xenos are very melee heavy and shotgun is very good at melee range means there's always a reason to use it.
Is it balanced? Maybe yes, maybe no. Should it be nerfed? If the entire ranged weapon roster is rebalanced to reflect the change. If shotguns become too weak, then pulse rifles HAVE to compensate, or marines have no counterplay whatsoever. Medium/long range is rather weak in general, while xenos are always closing in to melee to deal damage, so both team do their best damage at point blank. Some might say that's an ideal way to play, but personally, marines having better med-range than short could be an interesting change.
