Thread: If we're not fighting Xenomorphs, we shouldn't be fighting Xenomorphs.

    While it seems to make a lot of sense, due to the existing deviations from cannon Xenos, the burden on the Devs to do something like recoding the entire species would be burnout-inducing levels of monumental. I’m someone who heavily appreciates the iconic Xeno, with highly acidic blood, a devastating headbite attack, and warriors that seem to randomly detonate into fountains of face-melting acid after a mere two to three bursts from an m56 or m41. But asking the devs to go and reface the whole thing... Is asking a lot and, for fairness, would need the support of a supermajority (ie 67%) of the player base.

    Here’s my top 3 Pro/Con list, which likely varies greatly from other people’s:

    Pros:
    - Less risk of legal action from Alien/Predator franchises
    - Reduces the number of anxiety attacks for those of us who are source-material purists
    - Allows for more variety due to not requiring even a tenuous link to the source material (Terminators?)

    Cons:
    - The Devs will all commit sudoku trying to code such a change
    - Turns off people who joined the server specifically because it was based on Aliens (like me)
    - If there are drastic mechanic changes, Xenos would have to completely relearn how to play

    I think the fight for source-material purity is the easier of the two fights, honestly. The trick is to figure an appropriate compromise that satisfies everybody but pleases nobody.

    This really just boils down to sprites. The whole reason CM was originally a xenos server is because there were lots of pre-existing xeno sprites in SS13.
    Sprites take a lot of time to make - much more time than ideas do

    Actually, they already announced on the discord that they have an alternate set of sprites.

    I'd actually like to seem something like this and I've always been lookin forward to havin the Xenoid sprites implemented as we know they work, (we've had a few test rounds), and they open up a shit ton of lore possibilities as they're CM's design.

    I do love the Aliens franchise, some of the games, and just generally readin up on the lore of it and then playin this game it's cool to see 'em but they aren't like the actual Xenomorph....I don't mind havin the lack of canon lore as gameplay comes first in my opinion but as I've said before most of the xenoid work is done so I don't like it should be that hard to switch it out and tweak them a bit to leave the Aliens' lore completely. (I don't know shit for dev work so I ain't 100% sure on the difficulty)

    They stopped being xenomorphs the moment byond was picked as a platform for this game

    We currently have really good sprites for xenos. They look like big angry bugs from space and people enjoy killing them.

    No reason to change anything as long as it works.
