    Survivor Needs Love

    We spawn with joke weapons, we can't access or hack medvendors anymore, we get rushed by runners at five minutes into the round, we fight mature Tier 3s and ancient Tier 1s fifteen minutes into a round, LV is toxic, and we still often spawn with no shoes.

    I enjoy playing survivor for the challenge, but the evo/maturation update combined with all the other pre-existing and new issues makes actually surviving as a survivor feel like beating Dark Souls on a Deprived, no-pickups runs while using a Guitar Hero controller.

    Maybe give a shottie for all survivors to give them a fighting chance?

    But really survivor is meant to be the ultimate challenge where you tell the story of how you died, not dunking on 10 ayys. I mean you can still dunk on 10 ayys but it harder now with tier 3 gang coming out at 15 min.

    Survivor is a meme and it will stay this way.

    Nobody wants to touch survivors, because it is a true inside joke.

    All you got are leftovers from ERT/Almayer. Like Synthvivor (which was just G1 synth who was for some reason removed from Almayer [muh lore that nobody cares about]), like "Endurance" (that is skill for CLF/Death Squad so that they won't drop to a slug/neuro/nade).
    Now (is it already in place?) you can make shitty molotovs that have big chance to explode in your hand, or years after benos spotted it and already moved away. In the future there will be most likely more meme "survival skill" constructions that will have big chance to fuck you over (more usefull for CLF during events obviously). All because its a meme role.

    Never has been and never will be about killing a third of the hive. For me it’s always been about the desperate holdout: coordinating with a small group of people as we try to delay our doom through teamwork, bitterly fighting and shoring up our defenses as they get whittled away, and then the huge relief that is heralded by a squad of ungas discovering us. You don’t need frags for that, but what is needed is a fighting chance. A realistic hope for survival that drives you to keep going.

    So, crazy ideas from me time again.

    Well, the survivors somehow managed to make it through the initial infestation. One in which dozens of other on-site personnel, including armed security staff, didn’t make it. So... the question is how? And if you can answer the “how,” then chances are that you’ll be able to come up with something that gives them a fighting chance.

    Nutty suggestions:

    - Give survivors more hiding places; ie lockers, crates, coffins, more areas with hardened walls and lockdown shutters that they can reasonably get to.

    - Give survivors better skills (which can be easily inferred from clothing) like construction, engineering, medical, surgery, and... powerloaders. Then, allow the survivors access to materials that allow them to make use of those skills. Have a supply room with beakers full of chemicals and grenade casings. Other rooms with spare metal. Materials to increase the variety and ease of making improvised weapons. A working powerloader. Even if the survivors get wiped out, the results of their last ditch defenses are likely to be different each round, and the marines will arrive to see different defense setups, explosion scorch marks, and destroyed power loaders instead of just nothing (if everyone was captured) or bodies (if everyone ignored the no slash rule). In addition, those skills will make retrieving survivors a higher priority. The marines always need more engineers and medical personnel, especially later in the round.

    - Randomly infect some survivors, or even just one, with an extended incubation timer and less obvious symptoms. Then the Xenos have a reason to not just butcher or capture all the survivors. And maybe a “burst now” button for if marines try to be all meta and demand every survivor be scanned. Ok, this doesn’t help survivors survive in the slightest, but it sure makes for an interesting surprise when the CL is doing interviews and one of the survivors falls over and then bursts. If that’s the case, bursters should have an easy way to ride disposals, and there must be an air vent in disposals.

    So there, three crazy ideas to mix it up and make playing a survivor have either a bit more longevity, or make it a bit more interesting.

    Reinforced walls are fucked 15 minutes after roundstart since first T3s appear. Marines land around 20-30 minutes in.

    It would be cool if survivors got some better lore and things to do. Right now they are there to be extra captures for the xenos.

    Griefers just either going shipside and killing people or would just kill the IOs asap. It mostly the shipside being absolute cancer since all of them have slug shotties, will hack in and get more, and just steal ID or upgrade their ID to hide from MD. Doesnt help that the griefers would act nice before killing IOs somewhere remote or acting nice then going postal on the ship once they got on.

    This threat has nothing to do with hostile survivors anyway though.


    Anyway survivors are a casualty of marine-alien buff wars+admin inability to stop metarushes. Basically delta, or some rambos from delta, and such would just rush caves causing all marines to push to caves to bail them out, aliens get rushed before strong enough aliens to deal with and get stomped. To fix all that and prevent marines from ever metarushing again aliens just get tier 3s at 12:15, the earliest drop time for marines. Winrates are better, xenos are happy, admins are happy, marines are always unhappy so who cares, survivor gang is on suicide watch.
