    Specialist Metatarget Discussion

At this moment whenever i get my one chance i get to play spec, which is weekly it usualy ends up with xenos surrounding me from each side and tackling and slashing me down trying to drag my ass as far away from battlefield as humanly possible so i wont die close to rescue.

This is one of the worst things in the game atm.

Even if there would be rule to prevent it there is no way to enforce it. And in it's essentiality there is no way to fix this or do anything about this. Which is why it's so damn frustrating that whenever you get to play this really fun role it gets cut short by simple meta. Even if you call it tacticts it's not.

If marines would remember where queens nest is on prison with longitude and lattitude and would OB it at the start of the round you wouldnt call it tactic you would call it meta. < this is how valuable specs are to marines.

The similiar stuff goes for Medics and SLs but getting these roles is not that rare so it is not as frustrating but still very much can be.

I don't mean this as complaint getting meta targeted as spec is just true and frustrating.

It would be nice if we could find a good solution for this.

ARES update solved that by giving us specialist kit drops that normal PFC's could use to get a spec kit and the skill to use it.

Too bad it was only a test.

As a pyro you can give helmet and fuel tank to PFC with flamer and you can then laugh about him being targetted. I beg for Pyro gear nearly as much as burrowers have to beg Preators and Boilers to fill their holes.
As sniper you can give your "smock" to some PFC with pulse rifle and they also can be confused in battle for being spec.
As SADAR you can't do much, but this "meta" have a pretty good excuse, becouse you are the single best threat to benos.
B18 is in pretty much the same state as SADAR. You could give your helmet to some PFC to be disguised as long as you are not having your main weapon in hand, but that is a great risk of head injury.
As a scout you could also give your helmet and scrap the cape since it's pretty useless against benos.
    Problem solved.

You could always not play specialist. Plus specialists tend to have better equipment to fend off whatever is attacking them.

    That, too.

The best part about Specialist is you don't have to go to the Xenomorphs.

    THEY will come to YOU.

when a spec attacks, they deal significantly more damage than regular/other marines
when a marine deals more damage towards xeno, xeno get more angry/notice toward specific marine
ergo, where its not worth risking xenoself to kill those who weren't doing as much damage, is worth risking xenoself to kill those who are, why is why spec get attacked more often by heavier forces
point is, this is just basic threat evaluation and xenos are smart enough to know whose gonna give them more trouble

the other point about this is, even in a group the spec will usually get targeted first because if xeno does not target the spec, the spec will hit the xeno, and spec deals more damage than other marines and so see above

its the same thing you see when a lurker sees two dudes walking somewhere, they will (I will) always pounce the one with the shotgun to take down because it is more threatening if it lands a hit, where as I could take shots from a M41/whatever else

    just threat evaluation

all that being said all I can advise is you be more careful, but no matter how careful you are your safety isn't 100% guaranteed because this is, you know, combat geared toward both sides being able to handle each other in some way

tl;dr specs are just fancy shotguns

For the RPG spec, there's no point hiding the fact you're gonna blast anything within range of you.
So don't even bother. What I should advise is to get the smock from the sniper as it acts a large satchel.
    Use that to your advantage.

Snipers, ditch the smock, camo paint and durag (makes you bald with the durag). Keep the optics, you'll need it.

B18, you signed up to be a target the minute you step outta that dropship.

Scouts, just, give up on hiding.

Pyro, your choice really, as I don't like dying from the burning so I'll stick with my armour.
George S.Patton once said: No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making some other poor dumb bastard die for his country.

    Good hunting.

No they don't, spec gear is generally not particularly good against xenos which have closed the distance with you. Trying to use the Grenade Launcher or the SADAR at close range will just stun you and make it even easier for them to drag you across the map, the Sniper rifle is bad at close range and the Scout Rifle is only good if you have Impacts loaded. The Flamethrower is good at close range(now that the armour actually protects you from fire, anyway, it used to be that if you actually lit up a xeno at pointblank range they would just shove you into the fire and husk you) but is useless against Ravagers, who have all been granted holy missions from god almighty to murder you. All the spec gear also suffers from punishing wield delays which means that if you get successfully stunned once you will be chainstunned forever and never be able to actually fire your gun again.
