    Specialists with Smartgun

Since specialists can use smartguns, do you think it would ever be worth ordering one of them a smartgun system? And when would it be worth it to take it off of a dead corporal?
Scout specialists are right out, since they can't use their cloak and a smartgun at the same time.
Sadar specialists rely heavily on being able to carry rockets, and not having a backpack really hampers them.
Grenadiers could maybe get by as long as they fill up pouches, armor, and webbing for a total of 13 spare nades and 6 in the chamber.
Pyros kinda need their backpack to be able to actually spray flame. But on the other hand, they're not really all that useful so they might as well pretend that they're actually a smartgunner.
Snipers however could do very well with a smartgun, they will miss having a backpack and ammo belt, but they'll still be able to carry 11 spare mags for their sniper and they tend to throw away the ghillie armor anyway.

Only if they lose their spec weapon, and scout is definitely the best one. You can prepare the smartgun then drop the cloak and fire.

According to the wiki, that doesn't work since you have to wear the scout armor to use the cloak, and you have to wear the smartgun armor to use the smartgun.

I guess the better question here is “do you think that Smartgunner cannot stand on its own as a specialist?”

I think it can, but I was the type of guy who chose the smartgun when he rolled spec on the Sulaco.

With how little damage it does and the lack of useful abilities outside of armor strip, absolutely not. I'd take a smartgun over a pyro spec, though.

The SG damage is definitely inconsistent. I’ve unloaded on t1s and t2s to no effect, and yet I’ve run down a Ravager with one. BC is worthless because it makes all your shots miss, same with the BFA. Regular shot needs to do more damage, or have inherent AP (but not armor shred) while the shredder rounds should do what they say, less damage, but tear up the armor. At least if it’s going to be a spec weapon. The whole power to use the different abilities is also kinda odd. Especially since I’ve never run out of either power or ammo. But that’s with me carrying a spare 2k rounds and three extra power cells. Still, it’s odd how often the thing misses, since it’s supposed to be an auto-tracking weapon. But it’s more of a utility weapon than a chase the enemy down kind of thing, IMO.

The smartgunner used to be a specialist long ago, before scout and pyro existed.

And no, it's not worth ordering a smartgun system for your specs, because if you can order them a smartgun you can just order them more ammo because all of them could definitely slurp up some more if you got it.

I wonder if adding another Smartgunner slot to each squad would be too much. It’d make sense from a force organization standpoint; one SSGT over the whole squad, one SGT for FT1, a CPL to lead FT2, and another CPL to lead FT3

Even tho the smartgun feels like a fast pea shooter now i think that just the presence of a total 8 smartgunners would be too much for benos to reliably handle, the supressing fire would be just too much
