Those who care have probably already noticed that I haven’t been on for a few weeks, so this post is more of an acknowledgement of reality. CM has lost its charm for me. Every time I play it feels like the exact same loop:
Spawn, grab the only useful weapon, slap on the only useful attachments, go to the same obsolete map that is LV, kill a few new xeno players, get shot by new marine player(s), get stunned by an easy-to-use xeno ability, get dragged off to a corner of the map and killed instead of being captured.
There are good rounds, there are bad rounds, but it’s the same broad loop that has grown stale. Playing survivor broke the monotony for me, but the role has become exceedingly frustrating due to xeno power-creep and meta-gaming. You either die, or adopt a play-style that is best described as speed-running with a heavy dose of power-gaming. I have tried ship-side roles, but they are painfully shallow compared to other stations and even more repetitive than ground-side roles. I enjoy role-play, but most veteran players either act lrp, mistake military RP as an opportunity to power-trip, or just don’t engage because they are there to valid-hunt.
This has been a lot of negativity, but at heart I still love this absolutely crazy/amazing game along with it’s insane community. I have been following what the devs have been up to, and am confident that it is only a matter of time before the game is improved to the point where I can muster the will to return.
This isn’t “farewell,” this is “see you soon.” Keep on rockin’ gamers.
