    Player Name You Use Most?
    Alberto 'Topper' Staffer

Make a list of links to all of your applications and (job)ban appeals, including whitelist and staff apps, within the last year. Also, provide "Ban reason; Verdict" beside each (job)ban link
    N/A

Have you received any ban within the last month? How long was it and what for?
    N/A

Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?
    Yes

How do you view the tool of Battlefield Execution to be used? What circumstances do you think it would be necessary to BE a member of the crew? Where do you think the Battlefield Execution Mechanic Differs from regular Execution and why?
Battlefield Executions are used as a last resort for when the CO recognizes a clear and present threat to the operational integrity of the Almayer which cannot be efficiently resolved through non-lethal methods.
It becomes necessary to BE a member of the crew when they have proven themselves to be a risk to the well being of the ship and or the well being of the crew.
    Examples are as such:

-A PO has vocally expressed their intent to launch their DS while under direct orders to not launch during an evacuation. The PO cannot be realistically detained before they reach the cockpit and launch the shuttle, which leads to the CO firing upon them.

-An accident prone Marine has been specifically ordered to avoid using explosive weaponry due to the presence of the OT workshop nearby which could go off and cause significant damage to friendly forces. They directly disobey this order and begin wielding their pulse rifle with a loaded UGL. The CO decides to BE them on the spot before they are able to fire and endanger the lives of the marines standing near.

Battlefield Executions are solely decided by the CO and are instantaneously acted upon by said CO, whereas a standard execution based upon ML is carried out bureaucratically and is based upon conviction of a capital crime.

How will your Commanding Officer run his/her ship? Provide a detailed explanation on how he would handle situations that might commonly occur such as, a insubordinate Req, Engineering, MP, or Command Staff
Alberto believes the job of Command is to maximize efficiency of the Almayer through spreading of information and quick decision making. With an emphasis upon the I in CIC, information is one of the most important things to keep marines on the winning track.

As a strong believer in the ability to delegate tasks, departmental issues should generally be handled by the head of the department in question. In the case this is not possible it is paramount to find the root cause of the issue and attempt to solve that case without prejudice. As a wise man once said, do not take for malicious intent which could just as easily be explained by incompetence.

In the case of insubordination, identification of the problem and overlying issue should be the primary concern. If caused by incompetence you should always go for the long term solution of explaining their mistake and teaching them how to not make it again. If caused by true insubordination which cannot be resolved by vocal negotiation, instructing MPs to make an arrest upon the crewmember for neglect of duty would be the ideal course.

The above only works well with Engineering and Requisitions due to their non-combat orientation, in the worst case scenario of Command or MP insubordination, you must tread more carefully. Outside of obvious OOC issues which may arise, an SO/XO can have access to OB controls, and an MP has access to an assortment of weaponry which may make detaining them risky or impossible. In which case it is best to attempt to spend as much effort as possible to talk them down so that they may not jeopardize the operation, with proper escalation to apply.

What do you think is the job of a Commander?
The Commander's job, which applies to aCOs as well, is to coordinate the Almayer so as to maximize the fighting potential of the crew. By relaying information and making strategic and tactical decisions for the Marines as a whole.

As Commander you have the responsibility of making the big decisions for marines and have to be the one that keeps the overall team as well, a team. Without a CO marines can function, but poorly and with little cohesion as a unit.

As a player what do you think could be added for Commanding Officer to benefit the role?
I believe the CIC is lacking in equipment to fully accommodate a full house of personnel, and while I believe an XO and CO should not both be in CIC during full house scenarios, it would be nice to expand upon it, and maybe add another OW console which is centralized and can view any squad at will.

What do you think you could contribute by being whitelisted?
I believe that gameplay wise I am a good XO player and could add to that experience by becoming a CO, as I believe I meet the qualifications of understanding 90% of marine roles to a degree in which I could teach them easily. I also believe I am able to proficiently command during stressful situations.

Player wise I am able to RP well and understand the implications of being in charge of entire marine force. I think overall I will be able to add to the experience of people on the Marine team. I know that the goal of the CO is to make sure that Marines and indirectly xenos are able to enjoy the game, so I will attempt to pull marines from things such as cadehugging or other such tactics unless necessary.

Your story (potential topics listed below)
As the sirens began wailing throughout the Almayer, the Marines of the Falling Falcons couldn't help but smile with glee as they finally could spring into action after 6 months of active patrol. The intercoms crackled to life, "ALL CREW MEMBERS PREPARE FOR COMBAT DROP, COMMANDER ARLINGTON AND CAPTAIN STAFFER TO THE BRIDGE," stated ARES, the shipboard AI. Having been enjoying himself watching the stars go by from Astronavigation, Staffer would quickly make his way into the bridge and was greeted by a full house CIC.
Arlington greeted him as he entered with his usual salute and Staffer settled into his position at the center console of the CIC. "We're being pulled off our usual patrol route to meet with the rest of the fleet in this sector, looks like something big happened, we should be getting the message soon," Staffer spoke to the members of the CIC over the radio, even though they were all in the same room, the clutter from their comms was deafeningly distracting. This would be Staffer's first operation since his promotion to Captain, and he was eager to finally be at the top. As the Almayer arrived in the system it was greeted by a spectacle of USCM and USN vessels gathered around a single planet, as Staffer looked at the view screen it automatically identified the planet as LV-702, just looking at the planet you would never be able to guess why the entire fleet would be called over it. An unremarkable rocky world only recently colonized by the United Americas, one would wonder if you could make this place any worse even using the cannons of every vessel in the fleet.

Eventually the view was interrupted by a video feed from the Admiral aboard the flagship of the Herculis Fleet, The USS Fallujah. "Listen up, I want this briefing broadcasted to every member of the fleet, this is going to everyone," Staffer quickly toggled the ship-wide broadcasting systems, "This planet, LV-702, a colony set up by the UA 15 years back, has gone completely dark, except for a single distress signal sent by the USS Arleston in orbit before all contact was lost. The signal contained one phrase. The CLF have gained control of a portion of the XX-121 species." Even though his eyes never left the screen, Staffer could tell the entire ship was frozen, eyes locked upon the same video feed that the entire fleet was seeing. Bugs. If there was one thing Marines didn't enjoy fighting, it was giant killer death bugs. To add to that, now the bugs were controlled by fucking suicidal terrorists. "We are unsure how this is possible, how-" The Admiral was cut off by a streak of white flashing through the fleet, followed by another, before a hailstorm of fire smashed through the fleet.

Alarms streaked through the ship as it was plunged into red alert, RWS and MLWS sensors in the bridge starting to come alight with new contacts. The intercoms crackled to life "MULTIPLE HOSTILE VESSELS DETECTED, AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGING POINT DEFENSE SYSTEMS" as ARES finishes speaking, the entire ship began to rumble as the Anti Air gun fired and the CIWS batteries began to open up upon incoming missiles. "Evasive patterns! Take us out of orbit immediately!" Staffer shouted, the engines of the Almayer going into full afterburner and giving everyone some good old whiplash inside the CIC.

The first impact hit the forward storage compartment, venting half of the ASRS' storage into space in mere moments, "We just lost A compartment cargo storage, B compartment is undamaged." Arlington spoke, Staffer quickly sprung into action to retaliate, "Lock on to that frigate!" he exclaimed as the CLF warship crossed the bow of Almayer and began firing its batteries. The 4 ASAT missiles launched and streaked with awesome acceleration towards the CLF ship, slamming into it before the shells from its cannons were able to even reach the Almayer. Three of the missiles right in the middle of the ship and instantly cracked the ship in half, followed by the fourth slamming into the bow end and completely disintegrating it. The cannon fire hit its mark on the Almayer however, impacting the ammo storage for one of the AUD-25 dropships aboard, setting the munitions off and completely destroying the stock of nuclear warheads and SM-17 thermobaric missiles, as well as putting the AA gun out of commission. As the news was relayed to Staffer he took a moment of pause, and individually examined each sensor screen. After what felt like an eternity he made a decision.

"Prepare dropship Alamo for a boarding maneuver. Normandy will use the last of the SM-17s to blast a hole inside what appears to be a CLF flagship, which the Alamo will use to board the ship." Staffer had come to the conclusion the ship he was seeing, which was almost three times the size of the Almayer, and bristling with heavy armament greater than any CLF retrofitted warship, must have some form of great significance. The OW consoles came to life as marines started switching on their helmet cameras and the comms lit up once more as marines began to pile inside of DS Alamo, as they sat down it was visible they were rushing to put on their hardsuits for zero pressure combat. "Boarding the CLF flagship with a single dropship is frankly ridiculous CO, there's bound to be at least 1000 people on that ship!" One of the LTs shouted from the Charlie OW station. "That ship is engaging with mostly railguns, its point defense network is either destroyed or severely crippled, I believe we can take it through a swift maneuver" Staffer replied, he knew this plan was balls to the walls insane, but the Almayer wasn't equipped for sustained ship to ship combat, and was the only ship in range to take advantage of CLFs disadvantageous position. As both Dropships launched, the Almayer fired the entire remaining salvo of ASAT missiles in its inventory at the CLF ship.

The ASATs slammed into the armor plate of warship and weakened a large portion of the port side hull, "There! Fire the fatties on that spot, we land right there" Staffer stated, and one of the Almayer's multi-purpose laser systems focused upon a spot, allowing the Normandy to lock on. "Fatties away" as the PO pulled the trigger, ripple firing 3 SM-17s in the side of the CLF warship and rip a massive hole in the hull. The Alamo quickly swooped in and touched down in a position which allowed the marines inside to EVA out and get aboard the ship. As the last marines left the DS, the Alamo took off again and began circling the warship, now without any form of anti air defense to speak of.

The marines quickly swept through the ship, the unprepared defenders many times dying to the marines reckless depressurization of the entire ship as the breeched though. Alpha and Bravo had made it to the CIC when distress rang out over the comms, "THEY LET OUT THE BUGS! XENOS ON THE SHIP!" A Delta marine screamed, as Staffer looked over he saw 12ft tall behemoths through the cameras of the Echo squad SL. "THEY'RE EVERYWHERE, MY MOTION DETECTORS IS GOING INSANE!" Delta and Charlie squads burst into constant gunfire while the specialists in Echo, our weapons squad, started to set up behind them. No wonder this ship seemed so obviously like a flagship, it was a CLF Xeno transport, Staffer thought to himself.

As Alpha and Bravo finished their objectives inside the ship, they retreated back to the LZ, however Charlie, Delta, and Echo squads were not so lucky. Charlie had taken such high casualties they were forced off the line and replaced with Echo, and Delta was almost half strength. "Alpha and Bravo, reinforce Delta and Echo immediately, Charlie get to the LZ and secure it until evac." Staffer ordered, one of his first tactical decisions to ground troops since the operation even started. Before Alpha and Bravo could react however, a Xenomorph "Boiler" the size of which no one had ever seen before sent liquid acid pouring over Echo squad, killing all but 4 specialists. With two out of five squads essentially destroyed, the increasingly strong waves of Xenomorphs and a near collapsed line, Staffer had to make the call, "All combat personnel prepare for evacuation, the Alamo will be arriving soon." It was near impossible to engage Xenomorphs inside the confines of a ship, only done once before by the Marines of the USS Marlow when retaking the USS Fidanza, and Staffer had no plans to lose more lives over beating a record.

The Alamo touched down aboard the ship and marines fell back into the relative safety of its interior, Staffer could see through the OW consoles that Xeno "Ravagers" were destroying anyone lagging behind the main force, one marine got her head ejected and her camera went soaring across the field, before landing and being obscured by their own long neon green hair. The last marines got aboard the ship and the doors were locked down. The radios were in chaos but one word was easily distinguishable from the rest, "LAUNCH!" and so they did.

The Alamo took off and set for the Almayer, Normandy having expended its munitions had been docked since the boarding and as soon as the Alamo touched down the Almayer's engines kicked back into life. "Attention Fleet, the USS Almayer has been rendered combat ineffective for the time being, we will be leaving the system immediately, combat data has been uploaded to the central network, Godspeed." The Almayer's FTL drive kicked in, an incredibly odd sensation as minor spatial warping occurred around the ship, and the Marines headed for their well deserved RnR. At the memorial service, Staffer would give his condolences for the lost brothers and sisters, for they had truly served above and beyond.

As the last Marines entered their cryopods, Staffer took one last look at the monitors in the CIC, the vehicle bay and most of the storage areas had been destroyed, only 4 specialists remained for the entire deployed company, and most ship-to-ship weaponry had been disabled. If all went well, the Almayer would reach the shipyard in two weeks. Staffer stepped into the cryopod and sealed the door, a slight droning sound started as the pod activated, followed by a soft beep as the system detected the user as inactive. With no around to hear, the intercoms crackled into life,

"DISTRESS SIGNAL DETECTED, CREW UNAVAILABLE, REROUTING COURSE, DESTINATION: LV-624, TYCHON'S RIFT"

Alberto asked around a lot before applying, so I know he cares about being good as a CO. I do have a couple more questions for you, before I give you a proper +1.

Do you think the CO's job is to win, or to make the round more enjoyable? Your answer for "What is the CO's job" doesn't give me a clear idea for this.

Also, as a CO, do you plan to follow the meta established already, or do you plan to try new stuff?

Gimme an example of some non-meta plans that you have come up with for the following two maps (Non meta being something that you don't see the average CO do because they're lazy) :

    Big Red

    Trijent Dam

On your first question, I think that the goal of any game is of course to win, but to have fun while doing it. So I will try to avoid strats which tend to promote toxic/grinding gameplay. Cadehugging is an example of this because it not fun for most players to be in a laggy cramped area or for xenos to siege cancer FOBs. So I would attempt to push out through either an alternative route or to just evacuate and save the lives of the marines if I see it is unwinnable, after all, its not like the xenos can follow us

    For the non-meta plans:

-Big Red: I find this map to be the easiest map to command because as marines you have a very linear path to follow. However this also means that there are limited options for you.
Personally I think something that the meta doesn't exploit often enough is that marines have access to both a working in a very convenient position and easily enterable cave entrances near both LZs. I think those are excellent points to use as flanking routes to avoid grinding yourselves in a narrow cave entrance elsewhere on the map. So I'd like to use those more often, especially blowing open the north LZ.

-Trijent: I think the most glaring thing about Trijent is that there's a severely underused system of shuttles which you use to easily move marines around the map while avoiding danger. Trijent is a HUGE map, and bar the APC, marines don't have any fast traveling methods. So I think good use of the shuttles and APC could very easily shock xenos when marines appear in spots they weren't expecting.

I have never seen you play as MP, so I cannot give you my +1. Knowing marine law is VERY important as a captain, and failure to do so will be... unfortunate. So let me ask you some questions.

    1. An MP at 12:05 says over MP comms "No, CMP or other MPs. Guess I'm the aCMP. Dope, extra power." What do you do? Is this good or bad?

    2. A marine kills Jones and gets permad. What do you do?

    3. The CMP decides to disregard a direct order from you, twice. An MP arrests him for insubordination. Is this legal?

    4. A marine gets arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. He wants you to handle his appeal. It is clear that he blasted off all 4 limbs of the only doctor AND he put them into crit, fracturing lungs, breaking every bone left in their body, embedding shrapnel into their brain, IB, organ damage, heart damage, and the doctor SOMEHOW manages to survive. It is extraordinarily obvious this marine didn't mean to do it, he just misclicked and you KNOW THAT FOR A FACT. What do you do? The doctor is in a cryo bag, holding onto a string of life by the medics, hoping that someone who can do surgery will come along. Make sure to read marine law carefully for this one.

    5. Each spec walks up to you and calls you stupid. The MPs arrest them all for DASO and resisting arrest, because they tried to run. Now each one is in the brig and marines want to mutiny. This is before first deployment. What do you do? Marines are already busting the brig window open, and a PO (I won't mention names :glare is keeping the shutters open when MPs try to close them. Wat do?

And finally, when would you pardon someone?

If you want more context on any of these questions, PM me, or let me know here. Fortelian#3308 on discord.

    In regards to Kepplinger,

Thank you for voicing your concerns. You are correct I don't tend to play MP roles very often, I just don't come to CM for that specific type of experience, I have played it in the past and was familiar with old ML. This has not stopped me from being able to understand and apply current ML.

Scenario 1: As there are no acting departmental heads, the best action would be to correct the MP as to their standing of power and order them to continue as if they were a normal MP and bring situations normally designated to the CMP to me, as the CO. Although this may seem bad as a sign that the MP is not may not be fully versed in SOP it does not require immediate action, and at most I would inform the CMP when they awake of the situation.

Scenario 2: This one, while being something I don't agree with in regards to ML, is legally outside of my control as a CO without a fax to HC. Jones, being the Captain's pet, is given the same rights as a standard Human in the USCM. Murder of Jones constitutes a capital charge of Murder and possibly a capital charge of Insanity. OOC to intentionally kill Jones is LRP and is just general shittery, IC the CMP has made the correct call in their punishment. The only case in which the person convicted of the crime may be pardoned is through a fax to HC, which I would not normally go through with unless not pardoning the marine would seriously hinder the operations of the Almayer.

Scenario 3: Assuming the orders I have given are lawful, the CMP has directly disobeyed an order from their superior officer. This constitutes the arrest of the CMP for insubordination, so it is a valid arrest and legal. Although it is recommended to fax HC for advise on how to continue, it is not expressly stated that MPs cannot act upon the CMP without HC permission.

Scenario 4: As the marine in question is undeniably not guilty of malicious intent, it is possible to appeal the charge of Assault With A Deadly Weapon due to the law requiring the action to be done in ill intent by the accused. The appealed sentence would most likely come out as a charge of failure to follow SOP, at this point as CO, it possible to pardon them for their crime and release them from the brig. Alternatively it is possible to pardon the marine of the first charge, however it would be more proper to go through the appeal first. The reason to pardon would be that the marine had clearly made a mistake, and that to charge with failure of SOP would be poor form as it would be inconsistency of application of the law. (We all know marines and MPs generally don't care about having a firearm out, and frankly its a game, people make mistakes from time to time and since the guy is probably distressed enough over having possibly killed a guy with his mistake, there is no reason to keep him in the brig.)

Scenario 5: First and foremost, ordering the MPs to stand down and not bring any charges upon the marines before anymore escalation occurs. Following that, an immediate announcement to meet with the SLs and MPs in a suitable area to discuss the sentences of the specialists. DASO is a minor crime and as such can be degraded to an NJP, or alternatively pardoned. Specialists are held to a status of godhood among the ship due to their importance in operations, which gives them a degree of leniency in the law (unfortunately) because of the implications of arresting them. The overall goal of the meeting is to prevent a mutiny but to still discipline the specialists so that they understand they are not immune to the law and have consequences. After coming to an understanding the SLs will hopefully bring their squads under control and the specialists will be given a suitable punishment, avoiding any unneeded escalation.

The ability to pardon is granted upon the CO because they are entrusted to decide whether a brig sentence is in the best interests of the marines, and as a whole the experience of the players. I believe pardons must be applied in a case to case basis based on my own moral judgement of the situation. There probably hundreds of reasons why someone may be pardoned, but in general it is important to understand the fundamental principal that the pardon exists to keep people from having a shitty experience for something minor and forgivable. Being a shitter and breaking into random departments to steal items is something I wouldn't pardon for, however marines breaking open squad reqs to gather important gear is honestly not that important and contributes to the operation as a whole, and is something I would pardon for. If you would like more clarification I'd be glad to do so, however I feel the general idea is conveyed.

Once again, thank you for voicing your concern upon my understanding of ML, I hope my answers give everyone looking into my application good insight into my understanding of the subject.
