    More Hive Locations - Buff queen speed temporarily, buff defense building

    With the removal of unknown contact and other changes regarding UNGAing, I find that the rounds are becoming more and more the same. This is often mistaken as the captains/XOs all being the same.. but the problem really is that all queens are the same.

    With close to no hive location variety, marines know generally where the hive is, and can rush there with no issues, removing the need to scout/explore/etc. All the marine plans are the same because hive is ALWAYS in caves/eta/etc.


    I would like to propose that we encourage different nest hive locations with the following three changes:

    1. Give the queen increased movespeed for the first 3minutes of the game. Runner fast. That was she has the ability to travel to other potential nest sites without gimping the hive.

    2. Seperate drone/carrier/hivelord/burrower from other t2 slots. Xenos hardly ever get to use their defense building abilties because you have to fight tooth and claw for your hivelord/burrower slot. Separating them gives defense building a better place.

    3. Allow all defensive structures to cost 0 plasma (or reduced plasma) for the first 10minutes of the game. Xenos have the ability to build interesting defenses, using gas traps, walls, hugger traps, sticky resin etc. But no one hardly does. By the time you get your t2 slot you are too young to build more than a few traps before marines arrive. Removing the plasma requirement with more t2 supports will allow early construction of defenses and traps.


    New hive locations, with solid defenses, and traps from a good t2 support group would give variety and purpose back to queens. It would make briefing useful again since you actually dont know where the hive is; makes roles like command more import to relay information about defenses and hive location. And would remove some of these 30minute marine stomp rounds that no one seems to enjoy.

    No fucking way m8. Even without it fucking resin printer goes brrrrrrrrr. We don't need half of the map covered in resin doors and admemes will never do shit to such behaviour.

    Wont do anything on most maps,

    On LV, marines always push east or center anyway no matter where you at and there not really anywhere to go but the caves.

    Big Red, oving near something like EVA requires that marines are literally too braindead to go north... they are but still. TBH you almost never see breaches into lamba but always into ETA due to the fact it is hard to flank the ETA opening area. On big red eastern caves or lamba is the best spots typically with EVA caves being a troll spot but workable.

    Ice, just ovi somewhere in the south away from LZ2 so you don't get steamrolled if they land there. About it becuase it ice it a shit map

    Soro, map too open to really say here or there is good. Basically hive anywhere that isn't near the LZ

    Trijent, medical/that workshop area wouldve been sweet hive locations, but the aids river makes that hard. Fun fact marines will always rush labs, no matter what. No amount of leading to medical will make them change, they are truly the shittest AIs in the game.

    Corsat, you going to be pushed from theta or gamma already so it basically a question where you want to ovi in omega, the bigger thing on that map is to abuse all the flanking routes.

    prison station, if the map was actually semi open then maybe crash ship or something. TBH it doesnt matter where to ovi the fight is always at chapel and gets good when the stupid lockdown goes down.

    kinda relevant but building structures eats into early game plasma hard, its around 2k plasma to set up 1 thing, that's a lot of potential structures/weeds that now have to be forgo'd

    game would greatly benefit from more hive location / map that allow more hive location indeed.

    First contact was removed because nobody respected it nor gave a shit about it lmao

    And also because certain people realized it's better to mechanically enforce certain aspects of the game instead of having fucking moderators constantly MOOCing "ummmmmmmmmm why are you metarushing??????"

    Said mechanical changes (most notably roundstart evo bonus) also negate your concerns. Holy shit, the queen isn't throwing the game just because she ovied 34 picoseconds behind the standard map meta schedule. If I had a dollar for every time some random in dchat said "Yup, queen started hiving too late. Griefer marine main queen, this is gonna be a marine major" only for the round to end up being a xeno major I'd have more than enough to buy the CM server off from Jamie and then some.

    I agree the xenos are kinda trapped in the same spots and this is because marines already remember the trail.
    As someone previously said, they dont need to scout, they dont give a shit about sand temple or intel.
    They dont need power, or survivors or to explore the map.
    They only need to rush, put those specs and sg's on the front and murderball all the way.
    And for a xeno, much more a amateur one, were do we run? its almost a die in place thing, the queen know running and make another base is a no-no. But maybe could be a way to improve the gameplay.
