Common Staff Situations
A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him. I would PM the player and the MPs and investigate what happened.
If he had a properly escalated and valid IC reason to shoot someone, no problem.
If he had recent notes for that rulebreak, I would apply a 3 hour ban and note the incident. If he had no recent notes, I would note the incident.
A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do? I would tell the player to gather evidence regarding the honor code violation and file a player report on the forums as it is a whitelist issue.
You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart. That is probably a new player so I would try to get a mentor or a currently active SEA to help him.
If there are no mentors or a SEA, I would link the player the wiki Quickstart Guide so he can get familiarized with the ingame mechanics.
A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member. I do not really feel offended to insults, however that attitude to staff is not tolerated, so I would note him and tell him to tone it down.
If he is upset with my moderating, I would tell him that he is always free to file a staff report if he thinks that I have done something wrong.
A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this? PM the player and tell him that is a Rule 12 break. I would check if he had recent infractions about this. Change his name afterwards.
If this was his first rulebreak, I would note him. If not, note the incident too.
You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point. There is no need to act here as it is an IC issue that can be resolved with MPs arresting and charging him.
A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this? Hostile survivors are not allowed and less common now. I would note the rulebreak down and heavily warn the player. There is a possibility that it was an event CLF survivor, so I would check if there was an ongoing event and the survivor's objectives. Then decide if his actions would warrant him killing a marine.
If the player has been repeating this rulebreak for a while, a survivor jobban and a note would be issued.
You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around. I have played a lot of MP, so I know the correct timers and punishments that are issued should a marine break Marine Law.
I would check the story of the accuser and accused, and take a look at the logs so I can decide if the MP player was incorrect in his decision.
If the MP's decision was incorrect, I would tell the MP to free the player from the permanent confinement cell and instead NJP the marine or charge him for the crime commited. If the MP player has been repeating MP offenses, I would warn him and note the incident so future moderators can see if his behavior in the role has been poor.
If the MP's decision was correct and the marine player was excessive, I would tell the marine player that his charges warrant a permanent confinement.
The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other? SM the acting Commander to encourage him to send his marines on the offensive. I would normally not send a Queen Mother message to the xenos as 4 against 30 is an obvious xenomorph loss but if there are no other options, I would not hesitate to do so.
You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation? The medic might be a new player, but there is also a possibility that it was intentional. As I was playing as a medic and involved in the incident, I would contact another moderator to deal with the issue as staff are not allowed to intervene in rulebreaks that they are closely involved in-game.
The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended. There's no problem here as the CLF is hostile faction that opposes the USCM and they do not apply in EORG rules in a conflict with marines in this situation.
I would let the marine player know that.
A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims. I would consider it an IC issue if the marine's actions did not affect several players and nothing of valuable was stolen. (Such as a specialist weapon or gear)
If his actions have affected multiple players and he has stolen an important gear, it would be a RSS rulebreak. I would asleep him so he stops disarming and punching his fellow marines and note him.
You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him. In that scenario, it was an improper escalation as the accused killed the accuser for a punch. This is a serious rulebreak so I would heavily warn the accused, and tell him the proper escalation and then note him.
If he had multiple rulebreaks about the same incident, a note and a three hour ban would be issued as that rulebreak is very serious.
You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation? I would message the marines in MOOC that they have to ahelp a mutiny first before taking any actions against Command. If they break in and start shooting, an asleep will be required so punishments can be issued and marines stop.
There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it. IC Racism is acceptable at a certain standpoint, OOC Racism is not. I would tell this player that there was no rulebreak in the other player's part.
A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off. This is a serious offense and should not be taken with leniency. I would aheal the marines that have been killed in the incident. Note, ban and file the player for perma.
You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die. I would PM the larva player and tell him that combat larvas are not allowed. I would hear his explanation about the incident and heavily warn him.
If he had last rulebreaks like this, I would have to issue a xeno jobban.
You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen. I would PM the player and tell him that xenomorphs are requrired to follow roleplay rules and that his memeing was LRP. I would warn him if his memeing is excessive and note the incident. The Queen can banish the xeno from insulting her so no action would be taken regarding that.
A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship". I would tell the accuser that the hivemind is a translation of the english language. This is viable per roleplay standards and that calling the shuttle a dropship as a xeno is not an issue.
A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this. The accuser is correct. The USCM are aware of the xenomorph presence, their structure and castes however the Falling Falcons are not aware that the xenomorphs are infesting the colony that they are currently designating as an Area of Operations.
In this case, I would PM the accused and explain him that. Warn him and note it.
You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him. This is highly situational. If the xenomorphs were swarming the hallway and no other pods were available or xenomorphs were blocking the way, this is an acceptable RP reason despite it being excessive.
However, if there were other available evacuation Pods and there were no xenomorphs around, this is not acceptable. I would warn and note the player if that was the occasion.
A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'. I do not feel offended to these kind of insults but this is not tolerated so I would just LOOC or PM him to tone it down.
If it was deadchat, I would just ignore it and only intervene if he is being excessive, such as spamming it or getting the issue out of hand, I would warn and note him.
A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp? Incorrect. This is not an acceptable reason for an aheal as it would be unfair for the xenomorph team, a xenomorph can be SSD and killed so why aheal him for an infection when he was SSD? I would explain it to him and take no action.
You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule. This is quite dependent on the situation so I would not do anything to that, instead only contact the Mod Manager to clarify and explain it to the fellow staff member.
Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do? I would not join in the argument and would instead contact the Mod Manager or a senior staff member to resolve this.
Why would you like to become a moderator? I have played CM-SS13 for a while now. I have oftenly tried to encourage more roleplay and server rules ICly however I was not quite successful at it as most players will just ignore you.
I would like to become a Moderator to ensure that all players have fun and enjoyment while they play. I like to help new players and guide them in through the right tracks so they do not break the server rules.
In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator? Checking both stories of the accused and the accuser fairly and efficiently with no biased opinion about a player's reputation in-game. Having a relaxed and calm mind is also important to deal with some stressful situations that might happen. I take no offense to insults so that is a plus.
Anything else you I appreciate all the support and feedback about me that you might have. I have had no notes since my last application so I hope to work with the current moderating team soon.
