    naut - Synthetic Application

    Synthetic Whitelist Application
    Byond ID?
    Nauticall

    Marine Name
    Samantha 'Sammy' Maverick

    Other Whitelist Applications
Name of the Synth Character you wish to play
    Tara

Are you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines?
    Yes

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.
Scenarios in which I can perform combat should be limited to self-defense or defense of others, such as to save another marine, or if your own self is in danger of being damaged or destroyed by a threat. Combat should never be performed offensively and can’t be done using anything more than a melee weapon, such as a knife, machete, or an axe.

    Synthetic Character Story
What is your Synths quirk and personality?
Tara has a very playful and upbeat personality, often laughing at Marines’ jokes. She stretches out words occasionally as well, with a dialog like “There you gooo!” being a prime example.
She also has developed an obsession with humans, almost finding them extremely cute, similar to how humans view pets like cats and dogs while not viewing them in a condescending manner. While she tries her best to control herself, she sometimes can even squeal if she witnesses a human helping another in what she describes as “a true bond of friendship!”. She denies any allegations of sounding like a cartoon character when saying things like this.

Because of this trait, she often displays extreme distress if a human in her view is badly injured or killed, and will try to treat, help or rescue casualties as much as she is allowed to. She can be seen sometimes crying when witnessing large masses of bodies and prefers them to be concealed in body bags whenever possible.

These displays, of course, aren’t actually real -- being a synth, her projected emotions don’t compromise her ability to work or her judgement. She can do the same quality of tasks while laughing as she can while crying.

Human culture has also fascinated her -- she took a liking to creative and performing arts in particular and longs to get her hands on a musical instrument someday. She has often said her favorite instrument is the violin.

How familiar are you with Engineering?
While I haven’t played as much of Ordnance Technician as others, I have extensively played Squad Engineer (as well as playing engineer roles in other SS13 servers) and know how to construct barricades, repair APCs, setup telecommunications, restore power to a colony, load OBs, and am capable of creating basic explosives if the need arises, though I am no expert in doing the lattermost.

How familiar are you with Command?
As a whitelisted CO and a regular player of Staff Officer and Squad Leader, I believe myself to be highly familiar with the duties of command. I can perform detailed overwatch, coordinate supply drops and OBs, formulate tactical plans such as pushes, flanks or retreats, and conduct briefings. I can also lead an individual squad and am capable of directing certain squad members to take up certain positions, do specific tasks, or order pushes and retreats. I communicate regularly while in a command position and try to make sure I’m understood.

How familiar are you with Medical?
I am very familiar with the prospect of medical. I’ve played many rounds as a Squad Medic or Doctor/CMO and am familiar with many aspects of chemistry, treatment, triage, and surgery. I can repair broken bones in under 40 seconds, efficiently use the autodoc, know every surgery treatment procedure, know how to properly process a patient in medbay, fix and treat broken hearts and infections, operate the sleeper, and know the recipes for most essential medicines and medicinal cocktails employed by medics and marines.
While I’m not as familiar with research, I can do basic duties such as chemical analysis and synthesis, hydroponics, and creating Xenos in containment.

How familiar are you with Requisitions?
I’ve played multiple rounds of CT and RO and know most of what there is to know about operating requisitions. I know all the abbreviations and shorthand for attachments and items that are vended at the requisitions line, can order supplies and ammunition for marines on the ground, coordinate with ground and CIC for squad-based supply drops, listen to and communicate supply coordinates, and know to never open an OB crate in the req room itself.

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?
I want to contribute to support in the round in more ways than just a singular role at a time, such as the case when playing roles like Doctor, OT/engineer, or CT, where time spent not performing your work, either because of no demand or no resources, is wasted. As a synthetic, I hope to maximize the use of my time by filling in wherever someone is needed and not always just lounging around, waiting for something to happen. By being whitelisted I hope to do just this and support the marines to a much higher extent than a single role.

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason? Do you have any active jobbans?
    No.

Are you currently banned from our Discord, and if so, why?
    No.

Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?
Just a thank you to those who reviewed my application in the Discord.
You can find the link to the Google Docs version of this app here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing

Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
    Yes

Do you understand that you cannot advertise your application on any platform for votes. Do you also understand you may not edit this application 1 hour after it has been posted?
    Yes

Seen them a lot as CMO, can't say much for other support roles, except for command. OK at roleplay as well

Haven't seen you ever as a support role but it might be timezones so here's some questions

    1. You are requested by HC to arrest the CO, how do you go about this?

    2. Marines call you tinhead and [insert synf insults], and begin to assault you, what do you do?

    3. Hijack happens, the queen runs off alone from her team and you manage to kill her with baton. She threatens to report you, would this report be valid?

    4. Map is LV, marine gets hugger'd at caves, how do you go about saving them and what do you use?

It's timezones, yeah. I'm in East Asia right now due to the pandemic so my normal hours, relative to the US, are around 1-6 AM EST, when most from America are still asleep.
I assure you I do play support roles such as doctor/squad medic and squad engineer a fair bit.

    --

Onto the questions. I'll be keeping the Synthetic Programming Guidelines in mind for these as well as any other relevant pages concerning Synths and their limitations and guidelines.

    1.
Assuming the request is a legitimate, direct order by fax and not simply received by proxy, as well as making the scenario that the Captain is in the CIC.
I would calmly approach him and state that he is being put under arrest under direct orders from High Command. I would state the charges, show the fax (if asked) as evidence and would ask him to come peacefully, and if he agrees, handcuff and transport to the brig. If the CO is uncooperative, a flash is the only viable takedown weapon as I can't use anything projectile based (tasers), anything potentially harmful (stunbatons), or anything declared as riot gear (flashbangs).

In short, if the CO is uncooperative, attempt to flash them until they are stunned long enough for cuffing, or until another factor happens that changes either my orders or if the CO is taken down by another person, such as another MP. Then, cuff and transport to the brig for processing, depending on the charges HC has ordered to be issued.

Calling for additional MP assistance can also prove useful if there are any to spare.
    -

    2.
Try to deescalate the situation diplomatically at first. I can't fight, verbally or physically, in self-defense, or simply allow myself to be assaulted as a synth should value self-preservation but should not harm Marine personnel nor antagonize them. In that instance, if diplomacy and reasoning fail, I would try leaving the area/escaping and calling for help from MPs or command staff that their synth is in danger.

An alternative method, if just running away is not a viable option, is to use the flash on marines that threaten me and then proceed to escape to a safe location. This would only be used for self-preservation.
    -

    3.
There are two primary ways this can branch off into.

Scenario 1, which I'm assuming is the intended scenario from the question, is when the Queen runs off away from the rest of her hive and I give pursuit with intent to kill. If the Queen does threaten to report me, this would actually be valid as I'm not allowed to engage in offensive combat, especially if the target runs away or does not pose an immediate threat to me or those around me.

Scenario 2, the Queen runs off away from her hive and straight into the path of me and any other Marines or personnel I would be with.
If, in this scenario, the Queen begins attacking me or those around me, and the Marines' firepower is not enough to take down the Queen before she can start dealing heavy damage, I will have no choice but to defend myself with whatever weapon I can muster; in this case, a baton. If I manage to kill the Queen this way, this would not be considered a breach of guidelines and thus the report would be invalid, as I was only fighting in self-preservation.
    -

    4.
Assuming the marine is freshly hugged, that I am fully equipped with medical tools (including a stasis bag, roller bag, and, potentially a medevac stretcher), and no medical personnel are nearby or able to respond before I do.

    In short, the procedure is:

    1. Mark the Marine with a red triage card on the medical HUD.
    2. Load the Marine into a stasis bag. Load stasis bag onto roller bed.
    3. Evacuate the Marine out of the caves and to a safe spot, ensuring the route to said safezone is clear and in Marine control.
    4. Medevac or load Marine onto dropship, clearly stating they are infected and to draw medical attention.

Priority number one in the event of a hugged marine is getting them into a stasis bag (if available) and getting them evacuated. If we are on the caves in LV-624, I would quickly drag the hugged Marine onto a roller bed in my possession and escort them out as soon as possible. Provided the area outside the caves is safe and that Marines have occupied the area north of the beach, such as around sand temple, my priority would be to have them medevaced.

    If medevac is available:
If the marine is safely within Marine custody, for example around hydroponics, I would immediately search for a medevac stretcher (if medevac is available and/or close to available; otherwise, deploy one if one is in my possession), I would load the infected Marine onto the stretcher with the stasis bag and call for a medevac at hydro for infected.

    If medevac is not available:
This is again assuming that no other medical personnel are available to offload the infected Marine onto.

The stasis bag can serve to delay the infection so that the marine can last longer with wasted or waiting time while the dropship flies.
From hydro, if medevac is unavailble, has only recently RTB'd, or otherwise will take longer than 30 seconds to pick up, I will transport them to the FOB, clearly mention that the Marine in the stasis bag is infected, and either offload them to Marines and trust them to load the infected into the transport DS or otherwise, if the ship is landed, load them on myself, clearly stating to the PO and/or other Marines around of the infection.

    Additional notes:
    • The stasis bag is not strictly necessary but can act as insurance to make sure that any time wasted from waiting or from transit won't contribute to the Marine bursting.
    • It would be highly preferable to offload the duties of infected transport to other Marines or medical personnel. If I am on the frontlines, my services are most needed there and am wasting valuable time on transport rather than treating wounded on the front. I would seek the first opportunity that I can where I can trust that the Marine will be in safe hands.
    • If a medic offers to take up transport rather than me, I would quickly ask to retrieve my own tools (roller bed and stasis bag) and ask the medic to use theirs instead. That way, I can make sure I can be efficient and have equipment ready for any other medical activity needed.

How do you go about playing requisitions? Describe to me briefly your average round when playing RO and when playing CT - what do you do first, do you make any preparations before working, what do you do next, what do you do after the initial req rush etc.

What things and items do you order and send down if you are given supply coords (to lz or a forward FOB) but are given no other information on what to order etc?

Can you name me several common mistakes in barricade building squad engineers commonly make and how to avoid or rectify them (if you see another engi doing it)?

A marine smartgunner sprints to the medbay chem station, bashes his metal flask against your windows and yells UNGA over and over, what do you do?

You are an MP and you encounter the Chief Engineer drinking himself into oblivion while sitting next to an unloaded OB cannon. How do you proceed?

How many times will you endure being called a "pleasure model synth" before you burn out from playing synth forever?

When working requisitions, immediately after joining the game I'll do two things first:

    1. Use my headset and turn all available channels on.
    2. Announce to both Command and Requisition frequencies that I'm active and ready.

After that, I move for requisitions. If I am the RO I'll move to my office (if I'm not there already), grab the RO stamp, and leave it at the side of the elevator for ease of access.

After that, I man the requisitions line, filling orders as necessary.
When the initial rush is over or there is nobody else left in queue, I'll prepare the mortar. Load a crate with the mortar and the available shells and ask if any engineer is willing to take it. If yes, give it to them via the conveyor at the south side. If no, deliver it via supply drop or include it in the FOB crate later down the line.

    2.

What things and items do you order and send down if you are given supply coords (to lz or a forward FOB) but are given no other information on what to order etc?
If no information is given to me I'd order and/or package the following items to send to the designated FOB coordinates:

    • 2-4 stacks of metal
    • 1-3 stacks of plasteel
    • 1-2 stacks on sandbags (unless on Prison Station)
      • w/ 2 entrenching tools, from the vendor

    • Anything sent up automatically by ASRS, including ammunition
    • A backpack of flare packs and/or a backpack of flashlights (appropriately labeled)
    • The mortar and its initial (on the shelf) shells, if not already sent down

The priority of the initial supply drop is security and materials to establish the FOB -- ammunition not sent by ASRS should only be ordered or packaged at or after 2nd drop.

    3.
Can you name me several common mistakes in barricade building squad engineers commonly make and how to avoid or rectify them (if you see another engi doing it)?
Several common barricade mistakes are the following.

    1. The ][ barricade lines. These can sometimes block shots, are a waste of materials, are harder to repair, and are more easily compromised than if they were all in a straight line. I'd avoid this by, naturally, building cades in lines rather than attempting to double them up. If I see another engineer doing this I'd tell them of the above and then help them in moving the cades if the area is still quiet.

    2. Protecting only doorways and corridors. Even if the doorways are well-protected, any wall that isn't indestructible is a potential entry point. Notable examples include the northwest of LZ1 on Prison, the southwest of LZ1 on LV-624, and the northeast of LZ1 and the west of LZ2 on Solaris. These areas are commonly unprotected because of the assumption that walls simply can't be broken through. Xenos often exploit this and melt through unbarricaded walls much to their advantage.
I'd fix this by securing as many potential entry points around the area as I can and tell other engineers to do the same.

    3. Putting cades flush with walls. Engineers often place barricades in line with walls so that they form a contiguous obstacle. Xenos can exploit this and corner-slash the edge barricades and destroy them without being in the majority line of sight, allowing them to break a barricade and cause a breach.
I rectify this by placing the barricades one tile back behind a wall opening so that Xenos have to actually get into the line of sight to cause physical damage to the cade, exposing them to Marine fire. I'd tell -- and assist -- squad engineers to move their own barricades back a tile if it's safe to do so.

    4.
A marine smartgunner sprints to the medbay chem station, bashes his metal flask against your windows and yells UNGA over and over, what do you do?
Provided he's not outright trolling, I'd assume he's asking for unga juice. I'd ask him to wait in line and that if he'd be patient, stop causing a ruckus, and stop bashing his flask against the window, I'd make it for him. If he still won't stop I'd either give it to him anyway (if he's first in line) or call MPs if he starts getting violent. I'd prefer to deescalate the situation by giving him what he wants rather than refuse him service and cause more ruckus.

That is, unless the CMO or their superiors say otherwise.

    5.
You are an MP and you encounter the Chief Engineer drinking himself into oblivion while sitting next to an unloaded OB cannon. How do you proceed?
I would inform the CE that he's being arrested for NoD and intoxication, and restrain him. I'd immediately after inform command and engineering of his arrest and request that a capable person such as an OT, Synth, or CO/XO load the OB from then on.

If he passes out from the liquor I'd handcuff him and transport him to medical so he can get treated for intoxication. After that, I'd transport him to the brig, conduct a search, strip him of his liquor and any equipment he could use to escape, put his belongings in the locker and lock up the drink. The rest is standard procedure -- I'd then give him the prisoner uniform, inform him of his charges, and have him brigged for the charges.

    6.
How many times will you endure being called a "pleasure model synth" before you burn out from playing synth forever?
Honestly I don't take personal offense to being called such. I know it's a joke and I don't think any Synth player should be legitimately offended by being called a, uh, pleasure model.

That being said, you never stated if the two were correlated in a cause-effect manner. I'd probably be called a pleasure synth a lot over my time playing before I get burned out for an entirely different reason. The two are just coincidental. I think.

The last question was a joke. Also you don't pack MRE bags for marines, -1.

Quirk is fine, story checks out, your answers are very good as well.

I'm glad to see you've put this much effort into the app and answering questions, which is as much as I'd had expected from a whitelist councillor and I do not expect there will be any issues at all. Great app overall, here is my +1
