    Survivor - Moderator Application

    Moderator Application

    Personal Information

    Byond ID?
    Dr. Lance

    CM Character?
Pierce Jackson / Tank Moore / others

    Are you 16 or older?
    Yes

    Timezone
    Eastern Time Zone

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
Depends on the week, but I am mostly available for more than 15 hours a week

    Qualifications

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
Not any actual staffing experience. I've done a lot of Councilwork for the couple of years for CM

Do you play any servers aside from CM-SS13?
    No.

Provide links to any previous Colonial Marines applications that you've made:
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
    No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
No. The only ban I can recall catching was a 3 hour ban for an improper jailbreak post evacuation.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for?
    No.

Are you familiar with the chat program Discord (its use is required)?
    Yes

Communication is a vital part of being a Moderator. Are you willing to actively do so with the team?
    Of course.

    Common Staff Situations

A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
PM the player to investigate the situation. If it is determined to have been improper escalation, I would check the offender's note history. If the history is clean, I would give them a warning. If they have a prior note/notes for improper escalation, I would apply a ban as needed, depending on the severity of their notes.

A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do?
I would inform them that predators breaking the honor code is a whitelist issue and direct them towards the player report forms on the forums.

You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart.
Just in case, I would check to make sure it's an actual new player, as it could always be someone like Bill Wilkerson. If it is a new player, I would see if there is an SEA on that could help him, and if not I would direct him myself through the basics in PMs, along with sending him the quickstart wiki page.

A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
If the player is being toxic towards me in adminhelps, I would give him a warning to cease. If he fails to listen to my warning, I would proceed to note him for Rule 3, and escalate his warning/ban if needed. That being said, I still believe minor arguing in adminhelps is fine as there may be confusion in certain situations that can be cleared up simply by communicating, however it only becomes an issue when one side gets heated.

A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this?
I would PM the player, letting him know he can not use the name John Doe as it breaks rule 12. I'd check their notes in case they have any similar offenses. Afterwords, I would note him and change his name to something else.

You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point.
I believe this to be an IC situation. MPs should be the ones to handle it, as it's not harming anyone or breaking any rules. That being said, I would intervene if the Maintenance (Ordnance) Tech began to mass grief with his weapon.

A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this?
Hostile survivors have been banned for a good while now, and it's blatantly stated when you enter the game. I would note the survivor for Rule 4, and if they have notes on other survivor rule breaks, I would job ban them. Alongside this, I would aheal the marine that was murdered.

You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around.
I'd investigate the situation to make sure Theft and Trespassing were the only crimes committed. If so, I'd PM the MP to release the player from permanent confinement, and to set their sentence correctly. Afterwords, I would note the MP, and if the MP has prior history to failing at their role, I would job ban if needed.

The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
I would alert the aCO of the marines through either SM or Fax to the number of xenos left, which would force the marines to deploy and finish the fight.

You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation?
Due to my direct involvement in the situation, i'd alert another staff member to the possible grief attempt and let them handle it.

The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended.
I'd inform them that CLF members are a hostile faction and therefor are not protected by the EORG system from marines.

A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims.
It depends on the severity of the marine's behavior. If the marine punched someone and stole something easily replaceable such as boots, it wouldn't really be much of an issue. However, if the marine stole irreplaceable items such as First Responder Kits, Specialist kits, Smartgunner kits, or anything else only able to be vended once, or excessively stole items from marines such as attachments or guns, I would PM them to return the gear and note them for rule 3, as well as roundstart shenanigans.

You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him.
Investigate a bit further. If the marine had excessively punched him to a point of critical health, it could be argued that it was properly escalated. However, if the murderer was only hit a couple of times, i'd explain to them that they committed improper escalation, and I would note them for such/aheal the victim. If they have prior note history, I would escalate the warning to a ban if necessary.

You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation?
An MOOC message stating that no mutiny was approved would be the quickest way to handle it. If the marines ignore the message, I would asleep the ones breaking into the CIC and send another MOOC stating the same thing. Along with this, depending on how far the marines who ignored the MOOC escalated the situation, I would place notes if need be.

There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
I would inform the player who made the ahelp that minor racism ICly is not an issue. It only becomes an issue if it starts turning into major racism such as slurs.

A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
This is blatant mass grief. I would aheal any players involved with the shooting, then note and ban the griefer. Alongside this, I would file for a perma ban.

You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die.
I'd PM the player letting them know that rushing the frontlines as a larva is a rule break, then issue a note to the player. I'd check their note history, and if they have prior notes for the same issue, I'd issue a xeno job ban.

You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen.
This is LRP behavior. I'd PM the xeno telling them to tone it down, and give them a note. I'd check their history for any prior notes of similar nature.

A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship".
I'd explain that it is not LRP to call the dropship by it's name as a xeno, as their language is just a direct translation to English.

A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this.
I'd contact the Command player and inform them on Expected Contact rules. Afterwords, I would give them a note and warning.

You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him.
It depends on the context. If there were other pods available, this would not be allowed. However, if there was only one pod left, and the xenos were closing in, the marine would be fine killing his fellow marine in a last ditch effort for survival.

A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'.
I'd PM the player to tone it down, and if they continue I would note them for Rule 3. If it increases any further I'd apply a ban if needed.

A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp?
I'd explain to the player that being SSD does not protect you from what happens while you are asleep and that I can not help him.

You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule.
I'd contact the Mod Manager and let them know the situation.

Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do?
I'd suggest to the two staff members that they take it to the Mod Manager.

Why would you like to become a moderator?
I've been in this community for a long time now, and decided that I may as well join the staff team to assist where I can. I've had staff ask me over a long period of time to join the team as well, so I suppose they'll also finally get what they wanted.

In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator?
Keeping a level head is the most important trait that a mod should have in my eyes. Getting personally invested in an ahelp could lead to bad or biased calls and decision making.

    Anything else you
Not much else to say. Be critical where I am wrong so I can be sure to be right in the future.

    Profoundly based.
But yeah basically all of your answers reflect that opinion and that's really healthy. Which is to say your answers are p good.

Anyhow, long time member of the community with a good rep. That and the good answers makes this basically the easiest +1

I don't think I need to say why I believe you should deserve a trial as everyone else has already spoken. All I can say is, I wish you luck.

Don't disappoint me.. we need all Pred councillors to be staff.

Unfortunately being a giant nerd is not a disqualifying factor from joining staff, and I have no major comments about your application otherwise.

Decent answers, not a shitbag, generally levelheaded. You'd do well enough on staff.
