    YKY - Moderator Application

    Moderator Application

    Personal Information

    Byond ID?
    Yippee Ki Yay

    CM Character?
    Cass Metzger

    Are you 16 or older?
    Yes

    Timezone
    Central European Time/CEST for summer

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
20 to 40 hours, likely more since I'm free this summer.

    Qualifications

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
I've moderated in my university's debate club, and I've coached for one my university's esports team, as well as managing an SS13 server with some friends back in 2017 when my ckey was Seek1ngJustice.

Do you play any servers aside from CM-SS13?
    None.

Provide links to any previous Colonial Marines applications that you've made:
N/A, planning to go for Synthetic when I get more experience.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
The university esports team I mentioned, though it's summer and we aren't doing anything.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
    I haven't.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for?
    None.

Are you familiar with the chat program Discord (its use is required)?
    Yes

Communication is a vital part of being a Moderator. Are you willing to actively do so with the team?
Of course, I think of myself as a very talkative guy even though lately I've been focused on playing the game over chatting in Discord.

    Common Staff Situations

A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
It depends on the context. Was it properly escalated? Was it ahelped? Was the person shot once, leaving no considerable damage, or were they gunned down?

Depending on the answers to these questions I'd gauge the situation accurately. If needed, ask other players for information on what they saw from their perspectives. I'd also review the gunman's history, is this a recurring incident or has this been happening recently? If it's the first time this happens ever, and it looks like it was an accident I would let it be dealt with ICly.

If it's recurrent, though, I would follow the punishment escalation procedure (note them, follow the ban escalation if they've already been noted or banned for similar issues in the past month) on them.

A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do?
I would link them to the forums and ask them to make a player report if they consider so, as it's a whitelist issue rather than an administrative one.

You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart.
I'd ask a mentor if they are available to assist the new player, whether it is through PMs or ICly as SEA. If this isn't the case, or if I am the SEA, I'd help them myself, linking wiki resources and guiding them through their first steps.

A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
It's a very simple scenario. I wouldn't get offended in a situation like this but since this behavior isn't tolerated, I would note them and ask them to cool it. I'd let them know that they can file a report on me in the forums if they think I took the wrong decision, and then the mod manager will look at it personally and reach a conclusion.

A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this?
It's a violation of rule 12, so I'd inform them and ask them for a new name to give them, then I'd note them for this rulebreak so that if it happens again the staff dealing with it will know it's happened recently.

You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point.
I wouldn't take any action because this is an IC issue (being a breach of SOP). It can be dealt with by the MPs.

A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this?
Since hostile survivors are not allowed (except when it's part of an event, such as CLF or UPP being spawned in the field) I'd note the survivor and warn them in the case they outright were hostile to the marines. If this has happened recently and they have notes for it I would note and jobban them from the survivor roll.

If there's another reason though, such as this marine escalating, I'd take no action as it is an IC issue.

You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around.
After PMing them back and letting them know I'll check it out, I'd verify the player's story through the logs. If it's correct then I'd PM the MP about this, letting them know what they did wrong and ask them to apply the valid charge. They'd receive a note, and if this is a recurrent issue, a jobban.

The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
If the round is clearly getting nowhere I would SM that there are only four remaining xenomorphs in the field and make their locations public (assuming they are simply delaying). If the marines are actively looking for these last four xenos then I would announce through QM to let it go and finish the fight.

You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation?
I'd ask another staff member to take a look since I'm involved in the issue. Obviously I'd ask them what's happening ICly to determine whether it's intentional or not. If they are only a player who's new to the role I'd give them a hand myself ingame.

The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended.
Let them know about USCM/CLF relationships and that it's valid since they are enemies.

A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims.
This is an IC issue and I would take no action as long as restricted equipment such as specialist and smartgunner gear hasn't been taken. If it has, I'd ask them to stop and apply a note for roundstart shenanigans.

You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him.
This situation wasn't properly escalated. The proper escalation is disarm/punch>melee weapon>firearm. I would PM them about this after checking logs to confirm and apply a note for IE, and a 3h ban if they've been noted for the same issue recently.

You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation?
I would make use of MOOC to ask the marines to ahelp before attempting a mutiny as it isn't allowed to mutiny without it. If they disregard me and proceed, I may have to adminsleep them and then individually check their history, note them, and apply a ban if they've got a recent note about this.

There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
There hasn't been a rulebreak here as long as it's light IC racism.

A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
This is a violation of rule 4. I would check this person's history and go deeper into the account's information to look for matches with others and determine whether this was a new player or a griefer. I would note the player regardless. If this has happened in the past I would follow the ban escalation, and if the person is a serial griefer using a different account, I would apply a permanent ban.

You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die.
If it's an intentional suicide, I'd message the player and let them know that they shouldn't be suiciding as a larva and slap a note on them. If noted recently for the same issue, follow the ban escalation. If it's a brand new player who was confused or they bursted in the frontlines or during a hive assault I would take no action.

You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen.
Insulting the Queen can be punished to an extent by being banished, but I'd also apply a note for LRP behavior (AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc) and inform them about xenomorph roleplay standards.

A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship".
It's not an issue because the hivemind can be understood as a direct translation of the word they're looking for.

A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this.
Even though the battalion knows about the threats they may be facing (expected contact), they shouldn't be saying this outright. I'd just PM them about it if it's unintentional, and if they have had recent LRP incidents like this I'd note it down.

You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him.
I wouldn't blame them if they didn't follow escalation rules in this situation but it's clearly something that doesn't happen usually. If the xenos are pretty much THERE and there is no other escape route available, I'd consider it a valid IC action to take. If there's more pods and the xenos aren't really directly threatening them, I'd note them for IE.

A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'.
I would let them know that this behavior isn't tolerated even though I don't feel particularly offended about this. If they keep going on I'd apply a three hour ban.

A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp?
Being SSD doesn't warrant an aheal if you die in this TDM setting, so I'd take no action.

You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule.
I'd let them know I think they made a mistake and show them why I believe so, and inform the mod manager if I am ignored/disregarded and I think my points are valid.

Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do?
If I can help it, I'd try to say what I think about it without really interfering, though I would rather contact a senior mod or mod manager to work it out.

Why would you like to become a moderator?
I really like the game and want to help make it a better server to play in. I often see a lack of online staff to handle issues throughout the round, so I thought why not offer some help since I already have some experience both in real life and in SS13 with being part of staff and moderating different environments.

In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator?
I think being unbiased and legitimately looking after the game is very important.

    Anything else you
I'm a returning player from around 2016-2017. I pretty much quit BYOND and focused on my studies so I could get access to a good uni. Now it's summer and I have a lot of free time. My old account was Seek1ngJustice, and I made this new one because I forgot my password and can't access my highschool email. I'm male and 21 years old.

Hey there YKY ya answers are good and playtime is good but I'm gonna have to -1 this app as after discussing with other members of staff I have doubts that ya would be a good fit for the team.

An investigation was conducted and due to ties to certain elements, i cannot in good conscience allow you onto the staff team.
