What do you think is the job of a Commander? From an OOC standpoint the job of a Commanding Officer is to make the round fun and enjoyable. The CO itself it a server “tool” to enforce RP and guide the players through the objectives of said round.
CO's should be up to the RP standard and never take the position if “NOT IN THE MOOD FOR IT” which probably would mean a bad round for marines.
Either way the Commanding Officer job is the most important role in the almayer, he will lead, plan and oversee the proper functionalily of the operation for it to be a success.
The CO will make sure all departments are up to standards, will make use of his tools of trade which are the Heads of Department to prevent any disruption in said operation.
Why do you want to be a Commanding Officer? Mostly because i enjoy playing leadership roles, i believe i can provide enjoyable rounds for the players always keeping in mind the rules and a high standard that the Commanding Officer role requires. Not looking to add a new gimmick if that’s what you’re asking but i’d love the opportuniy to fully lead the USCM to many victories, good times and possibly invent new tactics and deployments. I would love to participate in the forums and discuss new approaches and such for the game.
What do you think you could contribute by being whitelisted? Since i play mostly around lowpop hours, i’d be backing up the command staff which most of the times is zero in said hours, preventing rounds to be ruined by lack of command, and also an opportunity to enhance RP in said timezone.
How will your Commanding Officer behave? Describe their character. My Commanding Officer is a very communicative person and prone to take advantage of every situation that might seem favorable or perhaps lucrative for him, he despises to lose men for naught but he surely will not care if it’s for the greater good. Nevertherless he will be in touch with all the department heads to ensure everything in the operation is going by the books. He will not try to micromanage every department, since he’s not supposed to do so, trusting in his officers and communication are the basis of a good leader.
Name and briefly describe your Commanding Officer's own ship. USS Uruguay is known for being the only medium sized battleship with their weaponry reffited to focus on planetary bombardment sieges – Kitted with 4 orbital cannons for ground operation support and upgraded FTL engines. This vessel mostly is called for “deep cleanup” missions, handled by a skelleton crew, USS Uruguay works as a support vessel for the 4th division under Commodore Maverick’s – Shipside installations go from – Hospital, hangar for one type UD-4 dropship for personnel and supplies transportation between ships, a medium sized factory-lab to manufacture and produce armament for the 4th division, crew quarters and the vessel is known for having the only football court instead of the standard issue basketball court in the fleet for personnel recreation.
Your story (potential topics listed below)
How experienced are you with the position of a Squad Leader (SL)? I’m fairly experienced as Squad Leader, it’s a role i enjoy playing, i used to main Bravo and Charlie, as SL i usually play safe, enforce squad cohession and mostly stay at the backlines issueing orders and calling airstrikes.
How experienced are you with the position of a Staff Officer (SO)? Im very experienced with the SO role, yet it’s not a position i enjoy playing much, either way SO’s are important as they will relay any orders command issue and will mantain them supplied and or grouped.
How experienced are you with the position of a Department Head? I have played in all deparments except as CMO, either way i do what i’m told to do, and keep my deparment running at 100% all the times. I used to enjoy playing RO a lot, but it’s a role i got bored of.
How experienced are you with the position of the Executive Officer (XO)? I have a solid experience as Executive Officer, it’s actually my favorite role in the game right now aside from specialist, but heck, who doesn’t love specialist? My XO rounds usually involve a lot of announcements and being communicative at all times with all squads and departments, competent XO’s are a powerful tool for the CO since they will mostly solve any issue shipside while he leads his men at the front.
How familiar are you with Marine Law and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)? As part of the CM staff, i’m required to know SOP and ML perfectly. I’ve been grinding MP and CMP since as CO if you don’t know ML or SOP marines will eat you alive.
When do you believe a Battlefield Execution should be used? List some examples of scenarios in which a battlefield execution would be correctly used. The BE’s are usually applied when someone is majorly threatening the OP, such as an active shooter in briefing before staff can take over(generic example though), a marine trying to provoke others to overthrow command, a marine trying to desert the operation, threats to your character. Either way, BE’s in my point of view are a versatile tool for getting rid of trolls without staff intervention.
Under what circumstances do you believe it is legal to pardon a prisoner? What are some examples of crimes you would pardon, and those you would not? Commanding officers can indeed pardon minor and major crimes but NOT CAPITAL ONES, yet is not something i would actually do often, if you’re dumb enough to get arrested thats on you.
Either way, if it’s for the greater good, i would issue such, keeping in mind im responsible for further crimes they might commit.
i would pardon for example:
Spec breaks into Req to grab his rocket bag because the RO is currently mute, RO finds out and gets him arrested. I would immediatly issue the pardon and announce the reason and bonk the RO for being mute.
Engineers deconstruct their preps to the literal scrap without command consent, MP’s arrest them for major DTGP i would pardon each engineers and send them away. Since they are a valuable asset to the operation.
To be clear, i would only pardon minor crimes, and it will almost depend if said individual is important for the operation.
What is your routine after starting the round as either a Staff Officer or Executive Officer? Assume you joined round-start and are inside your quarters. I have a routine i ALWAYS CARRY as XO.
1- Say “g’day” in MP, REQ, MED and Command freq’s.
2- If no CO is awake i would always announce briefing at 12:15 in a spot i would feel like giving it plus Grant defcon Budget to REQ . (landing zone setting would depend on the map).
Tell the SO’s if any present that set the briefing time to said hour and set Asl’s for squads if any missing their own.
3- Flip my hat cause swag, get a cigar and a zippo from CIC conference room and proceed to OB room. State over radio which shells we got and load it according to what i think i would be benefitial.
4- Move from OB room to Medical and grab Medhuds for SO’s and a medical belt, salute the doctors if there were any.
5- Move to requisitions, see if the RO is actually doing his job and move on. (If synth would be available i would either send him to requisitions or medical, depending on needs).
6- Move back to CIC, it would be roughly 12:10 by then i would check the crew manifest and craft a plan in 4 minutes which said would depend on the amount of marines awake. (Planing would be skipped if there’s a CO awake who wants to lead the operation).
This is basically what i do in all rounds as XO, might be some instances where i don’t do something because the CO would order me to do X task.
How would you handle insubordinate departments? State what you would do for each department if they were insubordinate. Insubordination is bound to happen, i would be communicative to them, explain why such person is a valuable asset to the operation, if it would come to the terms of said individual not to understand said thing, he will let the Military Police handle it.
Departments such as Engineering and requisitions are very important for round progression, and most of the time they end up being conflicting due to “new transfers” or understaffed department, in most cases it could be solved by sending the ship’s synth to assist or the Gunnery Sargent to instruct, either way insubordination is and will be handled by Military Police if peace talks fails.
Medical is by far the most important department since marines will need healing, being important does not grant them immunity, if we're not able to reason with them, MP's should do the work.
Now, command staff issues are prone to happen when the Commanding Officer gives contradicting orders, staying in line and being communicative, and being able to take advise from your fellow command chain will ensure this would not happen often. Either way, troll SO’s which i have already dealt with before, are to be thrown in jail. SO’s are important for claiming that sweet Marino Majorino but they can also fuck things up badly, so i would take no chances and shove them into brig as soon they cannot be reasoned with.
MP’s are bound to follow orders and marine law Icly, Any acts of MPs being disruptive are considered as an OOC issue and should be handled by Game Staff. In the events of disruptive MP’s he would communicate with the Chief MP to get him to resolve the issue, if there would be no Chief MP present, a previous talk in the brig with said person would take place or contacting the Provost Office via FAX for resolution of said case.
How would you handle an understaffed CIC? What if you and the XO are the only available CIC crew? The same way i always do. I’m prepared to face the fact you don’t always get SO’s. either way as Commanding officer i would step into the OW consoles and take two squads for me and two for the XO, i wouldn’t deploy if XO would be alone in CIC even if proven capable of handling it alone. The risk is too high of something going wrong like a possible OB coords mixup and such, besides you’re putting all the pressure on him.
What would you do if you were deployed and a marine told you they were going to desert the operation? First of all i would try to talk him out and tell the importance of him being on the field, if the chat wouldn’t work i would perform a Battlefield Execution, since there probably no MP’s in the area to arrest for desertion. If that marine in question would be located shipside, i would simply tell the MP’s to arrest him and charge him for desertion and would allow the MP’s to execute him, properly announcing it as proceedure states, since desertion is a capital crime.
