If it a boring role where you cant ugna off expect it to be played by the baldest bastards you ever found; beyond not knowing CM bald, beyond not knowing SS13 bald, I mean you question how this god dam idiot was able to turn on there computer. That crayon eating momma's 'special boy' is your only lifeline to CIC and POs. God help you.
Sounds more like a satirical joke than an actual update.

Take the most important fundamental ability that all marines have "Communication", tie it to only one player who every xeno will attempt to capture and perma in an inaccessible spot. Make the role boring as fuck so no one with any level of experience will even place it on low priority so only the most inept players even bother with the role. Then further require them so marines have the fundamental ability to even benefit from what they previously obtained by DEFCON.

Hopefully I am missing something and it turns out to be a great idea but it kinda sounds like the worst possible solution to the lag and DEFCON problem possible.

If lag is this much of an issue I rather they just bloody removed darkness all together and all sorts of other stuff as this is massive loss to fix lag.

It seems most of the people here are shotgunning marines who only care about the TDM side of CM.

RTO has A LOT of RP potential. You can act as the SL's second man, relaying what the SL tells you to, BY ROLEPLAYING. You can act like a 18yo who made the worst mistake of his life and is now terrified of war and just wants to go home. I can think of so many scenarios that will make the round more fun and enjoyable for most people(why most? because there will be that pissed off guy who couldn't yell "QUEEN ENGI" while ungaing alone).

I will main this role when it comes out so I can RP, like I did with my War Correspondency. I think the devs are finally wanting to put that little bit of RP in so we can stay MRP, but also removing lag which is *inhales* LOVELY

I'm still very concerned about RTO's. My questions about JTAC haven't been answered aside from "RTO IS A DEDICATED JTAC ROLE". Cool, what happens to the engie on the mortar who isn't a RTO, how is he going to get instant updates that he needs to be firing at X Y Z? So on and so forth. If there's only ever 4 'spotters' then it's pretty fucking easy to remove the marines biggest and honestly only true advantage.

Also I really hate when people talk about marines and shotguns as if RP and shotguns are mutually exclusive. Shotgun meta exists exclusively because it is by and large the most effective weapon that non role locked weapons can get. Smartpistols are absolute garbage that perform worse then a literal B8 l42A (Which is a great support weapon.) Flamers are nice if you know how to use them, but you HAVE TO COMBO THEM WITH OTHER WEAPONS. Every other weapon in this game just plinks off the xenos like a fucking nerf gun.

Is this accurate? Of all the possible fixes, changes, improvements and so on, they're going to mess with something that reasonably works and nobody is kicking up w fuss over? That seems strange. Bad prioritisation in fact. Also, how does a giant radio operator really fit the theme? Sure it's Vietnam, but none of the movies had it. Will the comms tower also be removed? Do marine radios not work if too far from a radio operator, since they must then surely just be walkie talkies? Hmm. A Pandora's box of lore issues.

Marines dont have headsets anymore I guess, I believe it mostly to kill the chat lag from a thousand bodies getting messages or something.

And Lad, we don't even get MPs or CTs and they can RP all game if they feel like it. Let be real this is a TDM game

I'm pretty sure they already made it so corpses don't get messages. That's why occasionally you have to restart your headset after getting revived. I might be wrong though.

I am 99% of the time performing CPR and retrieving wounded as a mini medic so I am hardly the TDM type but this update sounds like it's capable of fundamentally crippling communication.

If Latency is this serious we should be removing unnecessary props and bodies from the maps, simplifying darkness or removing it all together, and removing at a regular rate (Every 10 Minutes) unimportant props like broken glass, trash, animal corpses, and finding further ways to optimize the code, and furthering moderator / admin tools for round clean up as to allow to remove bodies and other props or the ability to remove all props ground side when it the ship battle phase.

Given that this role will have a larger target on it's back than even a Specialist and how important to generals operations it would be I doubt you get much if any role play out of it. I play xenomorph enough to know that I and others will looking to murder and drag perma you every second you're in the field and when not we looking to force you out of the fight so the squad looses the ability to communicate. So expect to role play as the unga with the broken body in the medbay more than anything.

I've floated around since there was only the sulaco but recently I've been getting into this again and I've been learning IO, it's a shame it's going away its a really cool role. Admittedly I haven't been doing it long but having on the ground officers that are (in theory) highly skilled in engineering and often other fields just from previous player experience, it allows for interesting situations. Now that being said, IOs basically spend the whole match in the field hoovering up everything they can get their grubby little mitts on or running dispatch and processing all the information but if a round goes to shit they have all the chance in the world to go natal. Even if it does normally end with them dead.

Anyway, besides the fact that a lot of us are bald, its still useful and the role is really cool. The operation often depends on them in ways that aren't always obvious to most marines, but they're directly responsible for cash flow. Maybe just explain it better? The guides present are alright but they don't exactly explain anything that clearly. It's a book when it doesn't have to be. I'd make one but I'm just not that experienced at the job yet.

I'm kinda sad we're getting rid of IO, it's a fun job and I hope RTO can somehow live up to it. On a second note I think spec should be a corporal and RTO be the sergeant, so we can finally have a proper 2ic that isn't only concerned with unga'ing

This, I think we need more room for higher skill ceilings, it sucked to get basically ganked by a bald doctor, but at least playing doctor wasn't brainless!
