    No? Unless you're taking a jab at CM, which is a whole other discussion, I'm talking about RP. And still, SS13 is more fit for PvP than it is for RP.

    I haven't been around long enough to say this with absolute certainty, but given how SS13 started out, I'm pretty sure RP started in SS13 out of player interest, instead of being encouraged by the game.

    As other people have stated the PFC and the Tier 3 have been made the be-all end-all of the game, everything revolves around the Tier 3 and the PFC, every update and every OOC rule is thought so as to not to disturb or even affect PFCs clicking on xenomorph sprites, and that makes other roles dull as fuck,

    Medbay? empty for 70% of the game until you have to revive 15 dead marines at the same time after evacuation and the xenos crash midway trough heart surgery, kill you and facehug your patient.

    Command? just there so that PFCs can pretend they're not metagaming their way into the hive and sometimes deploying with their command snowflake gear (which they're totally not supposed to do unless the round goes for a certain amount of time which it never does anymore) once they get bored of copy pasting "Stay with your SL" enough times in Squad Comms

    Engineering? There to be arrested by MPs and to go SSD as CE because there's nothing to do

    Requisitions? Button and chair simulator 2020

    Corporate Liaison? Paperweight Simulator 2017 Remaster

    Military Police? "Let's see how long we have to aggro someone to turn breaking a window into a sedition perma-brig sentence": Nothing to do help me im bored.
    Practically everything you said was the same in 2018, the only thing that changed was that rounds were artificially longer because xeno had to AFK for 2 hours to get elder/ancient to be able to have fun. Also, you definitely didn't remember mutator if you thought it "Barely did anything to impact gameplay", because it was the worst possible era of CM to play in as both xeno or marine. You're thinking of strains, not mutators. Mutators were PURE STAT BUFFS, with downsides so minuscule (and so easy to take the one that nerfs tackle because tackle had been shit since July 2018) that it made everything so tanky that it was braindead to win as xeno. There was no reason to even play groundside because rounds would end in 20 minutes by xeno rushing the marines because they had more than enough stats with mutator to roll over them every single round.

    Holy shit the nostalgia goggles are so bad lmao. The game has been improving, and the only thing I prefer from 2018 was that it was a WAY MORE PUNISHING game for both xenos and marines. Marines couldn't even PB something twice without falling into pain crit, and xeno couldn't just face tank 5 marines shooting at them with AP. I actually love that the devs have chosen to focus on gameplay rather than RP, because for every "RP" update that devs make, staff would stomp down on the weird and wacky ways players would RP 5 times harder. Remember the bar that MTs would make for people to ROLE PLAY in? MPs have a reason to shut that down now with the "Damage to government property" law. Remember the time when researchers had to find their own fun because their job sucked ass? Well now they're stuck to a boring button-pusher job that they can't even perform on their own because "RP" made them reliant on CMO and CL.

    Pretty much every update that was added for RP just meant that player tools were taken away just to facilitate it.

    Medbay? Became so fucking easy that it's astounding how many people still suck at it (like come on, you have 2 autodocs and no infection/necrosis now). And in the past, long rounds would be exactly just "empty for 70% of the game"

    Command? The only memorable COs were the ones that you would call LRP, like Juro/Windhealer/Carson/Dinkle. The rest are just the same cookie cutter milsim type, and you wonder why people don't care about command

    Engineering? The same old job ever since 2018, with none of the funny stuff (that you would call LRP and staff would stomp down on) allowed

    Requisitions? Actually better now that you aren't forced to copy-paste the same "SEND ALPHA/BRAVO/CHARLIE/DELTA CRATE" and spam it in the command channel because the SOs are swarmed. You actually get to do things yourself now.

    CL? Has always been that way, because the kind of RP that CL can do without violating a rule would simply be "hey sign this"

    MP? Even worse now BECAUSE staff wanted to protect them OOCly due to people not being able to do their job. Can't fight, can't disrupt, can't resist. They were made to be fun police and they stayed that way.



    If anything, the game becoming more forgiving IS EXACTLY WHY people stopped caring, about RP, about shipside, and about command. But if the game was to be even 10% more difficult, y'all would leave in drove screaming about how the game had become more skill-based and it wouldn't fit your playstyle. We saw it when Cakey wanted to add a 3-second delay on marines breaking out from nest just so they couldn't blow a nade and waste xeno's effort. Y'all immediately yelled and cried because you couldn't just have your giga awesome breakout anymore. Permanesting was a good thing, MOBA was a good thing, and it's a shame that ya'll are so blinded with your "RP" that you couldn't enjoy a much more challenging game for xeno. Now if only marine cade hugging would get nerfed and sentries were removed; then we can talk about the game becoming more difficult for marines

    And there's the crux of the issue with the Dev team. I think most of you are the opinion that a game that had to have fucking every single system stripped out and dumbed down to even attempt to play more fluid than a powerpoint slideshow is somehow more fit for mass PvP action than what literally all the others servers already have.

    As even you admitted, everything that makes SS13 an interesting game to create a server off has been removed or dumbed down into oblivion. What are we left with ? A PvP MOBA -wannabe that had to turn every role not PFC into a button pusher simulator for it to run like the other more complex servers run. And that is what people resent and dislike. That it feels the devs are just headbutting their heads against the wall in their stubborness to make the game into a janky MOBA meets SS13 spawn. We are doing away with everything that made the setting interesting and fun for basically the chance to do something other games already do better and less laggy. If people want to play a MOBA they will play a damn MOBA not the inferior SS13 version that runs like ass and that combat is based around making it so that the other player cannot retaliate against you.

    Seems like every round these days is 40 minutes. Marines have been made into pill chuggin machines in underwear with double buckshots that run up to xenos to PB and bodyblock them to death, and this is what meday, engineering, MP and Req were stripped barebones for ?. You yourself admit these roles are now button pusher simulators. Fucking MP used to be more fun and engagin, you could actually investigate shit instead of just scanning the magic prints that appear even when someone shoots a window from afar, everytime ARES sends a BIG CAPS message in general comms telling you were to go.

    What devs seem to have forgotten is that DEPTH is what made the game fun for people, the way systems interact and crate situations that players can engage with in different ways. When everything is so streamlined then why do anything at all, it becomes monotonous very quickly.

    One thing you're right about is that the game is becoming too forgiving, and that's again a symptom of what people are complaining about here. I've said it before but as stupid as the "Embrace the suck" motto of the old regime was, it had one truth to it, players should not try to make the game a 50/50 chance both-teams-on-equal-footing thing, caring about k/d ration, wins and all that bullshit is what has made the game boring and dull. Now devs want to go even further down the PvP path and people are understandably upset about it.

    Also I was being cheeky about the CL role that's why it said 2017 lol.

    I still haven't heard a convincing argument that explains how giving every xeno 3-4 abilities killed roleplay. And no, CM is nowhere near to a MOBA, it was just a quick name for xeno rework that 4khan needed to explain things in a simple manner. Have you people even played a moba before?

    And foolosopher is right, SS13 was not made for roleplay. The original design was an atmospheric sim with an Among Us/Town of Salem/TTT gamemode stapled to the front. The roleplay has always been a community effort and that's how it USED TO be here, but current players would rather point fingers, be nostalgic about a game they don't remember or better yet, didn't play, say meme shit ICly and cry.

    Don makes some good points about conflict and metagroups. However, to answer his query - shipside gameplay expands RP as shipside roles have the time to RP yet nobody plays them as there is so very little to do. If they were less boring and more important then more people would play them, and more people would interact with them as it would be more necessary for Marine success.

    It worries me that the above is not obvious.

    Who are are arguing with dude? If anything people have said xenos are too weak and not scary these days. Also dont be splitting hairs we all know what we mean by MOBA.

    Benos will never be scary for anyone who played this game for two weeks, even if they kill you with stare.

    Benos are now balanced around 50-50, so they are not "weak". The whole issue is that T3s are too strong, while T1s are too weak. Nerf T3s, buff T1s, thus shifting beno combat game on every caste, not only powerhouses.

    All of that has nothing to do with RP. Benos are stale as fuck, any refreshment brings RP. Fighting different beno sprites which is xenoids generates more RP and fun than 10000th buff to some beno.

    No, I don't know what you mean by MOBA despite having played league for ~1000 hours. The only parallel I can draw is top-down view (not moba specific) and abilities (not moba specific).

    I didn't mean that ss13 isn't fit for roleplay, I meant that it was never designed for it, and that rp came from community effort.

    And besides, this server was also a "mass pvp thing" back when we had rp.
