Common Staff Situations
A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him. First I'd confirm if a miss click probably happened by checking if the player is using the LOOC to apologize. If that happens I would leave it IC, if it's actually griefing, I'd PM them asking for the explanation and would note him for it, escalating to a Ban if the player has recent notes regarding it.
A player ahelps that a predator has violated the honor code when killing him, what should you do? I'd PM said predator just to know what happened and then redirect the victim to the report section, since I'm unable to handle such issue.
You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost at roundstart. PM him asking if he's a new player, if the answer is yes, I'd get a mentor to help him, if there isn't one available, I'd handle that myself.
A player is being very rude to you in adminhelps, calling you names and arguing everything you say. He is requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member. Ask him to calm down so we can handle the situation, escalating to a warning, if necessary, due to a rule break.
A player ahelps that a marine is named 'John Doe', how do you deal with this? Such name is against our naming rules, I'd PM the player telling about the rule break, leaving a note and asking him to change the name next round or even asking an admin to fix his name.
You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green and there has been no threat to the ship in the round at this point. Since he's just running around in armor, it's more of an IC issue, but if said MT begins to build fortifications preparing for the eventual boarding, I'd PM him saying that's metagaming, since he doesn't know that the xenos are able to get to the Almayer, warning him and noting it, banning if there are similar notes
A Marine ahelps that they were killed by a survivor. It is early round, the Marines have just landed, and the survivor claims that they were outright hostile to all Marines from the get-go and openly stated their intentions. How do you deal with this? After checking the Logs and seeing if the survivor did really state that they were going to be hostile, I'd just say that survivors are allowed to be hostile, but they can't become friendly suddenly. Leaving it IC.
You receive an ahelp from a player stating that an MP has locked them up in permanent confinement for running into Requisitions and taking an attachment that was laying around. PM the MP that arrested the marine and ask for their charges, correcting it if wrong and leaving a note regarding the situation.
The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other? Since we don't have access to ARES, I'd just SM the CPT/XO with the Aliens location, just to make it end. Or even QM telling the Aliens to fight to death.
You are playing as a medic, and another medic overdoses all your patients and prevent marines from being revived. It seems like it may be on purpose. How do you deal with this situation? Since I'm involved, I'd aHelp the situation, I believe that I'm not supposed to deal with it since it would result in a biased judgement
The round ends, a Marine starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member ahelps about being killed after the round ended. EORG doesn't apply there, I'd explain to him that since they're in different factions, which are enemies, they're allowed to fight at the round end.
A Marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start. You receive an ahelp from one of the victims. Since we're talking about round start, I'd PM the marine that's doing it and ask him to stop with it. Would warn 'em and note if such player doesn't stop with said behavior
You receive an ahelp from a Marine saying that he was killed by another Marine. When you ask the murderer why, he said it was because the other Marine had punched him. Well, that's improper escalation. Firstly, I'd warn him for improper escalation and note it, if he has recent notes regarding the same type rule break, it would escalate to a Ban/Heavy Warning, after that PM the Victim to know why the fight started and ask 'em to enter their body again to receive the aHeal.
You find out that there is an improper mutiny occuring. The mutineers are rallying together and preparing to storm the CIC. How would you attempt to resolve this situation? Well, that's pretty simple. Using the LOOC channel, I'd ask them to aHelp the mutiny first, asking for the 5 names and the reason for the mutiny, also reminding them to give the Command Staff a chance to stand down.
There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it. I'd just explain to said player that's IC, he shouldn't worry about it, if needed, I'd ask the rest to tone it down for a bit.
A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off. Well, that's actually something that could happen, since as a Tmod I won't have the aHeal verb, I'd ask a full mod to aHeal the victims while I handle the 7 day ban and the filling for perma.
You see a player playing a Xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines straight from the Xeno hive the second they burst and die. PM said larva and ask why did he go to the frontline, leaving it with a heavy warning or even a xeno ban.
You see a Xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat, as well as insulting the Queen. That's mostly netspeak, telling them that they're obliged to obey the queen and to stop insulting it, giving a warning and a note.
A Xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different Xeno player ahelps that it's low role play to call it a "dropship". Honestly, xenos aren't required to address to the DS as "Bird", they clearly know that it's a dropship. No problems here.
A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet. You receive an ahelp from a marine regarding this. PM said Command member and tell him that he doesn't know anything about benos. Checking the notes to see if something like that happened before, escalating if needed.
You find a Marine killing another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself. There are two other marines in the pod along with him. IF properly escalated, honestly, even being a dick move, I'd leave it IC. But if it isn't properly escalated, I'd just warn him and note for that action, telling him how to properly escalate and not just jump to shooting.
A player insults you after you warn them for a minor issue and begins ranting in LOOC or dchat about staff and mentions you specifically, referring to you as an 'idiot' and a 'retard'. I'd PM him telling that if he felt that I did something wrong, he's able to fill a staff report, sending him the link to do so.
A player ahelps saying he was hugged by a Xeno when he was ssd, and wants the larva be removed from him via admin powers. How do you handle the ahelp? Unfortunately, I'd explain to them that it's an IC issue which I'm not allowed to handle and that we can't do much about him falling SSD near the front.
You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforce a rule. I'd give my opinion using the msay, taking it to the manager if required.
Two staff are arguing in msay if an ahelp is breaking a rule. Because the staff who took the ahelp thinks the player broke a rule, they ban the player based on their interpretation of the rules, with others thinking the person was fine. What would you do? Well, I'd ask them to keep it cool, there's no need to fight because of that, if someone has a problem with someone from the staff, they're able to talk to their respective manager about it.
Why would you like to become a moderator? After being a mentor for a while, I believe that I've learned enough to earn such a thing, keeping the same priorities that I had, that being helping our community.
In your opinion, what is the most important quality for a moderator? Accepting that sometimes you're are wrong, we're not perfect and mistakes are eventually going to happen.
Anything else you Would you allow the mentor boi to evolve?
