I play SL and if I can't put most of my squad in the mood to go down and kill some commie scum. I'm clearly failing my duty as SL!

If the CO starts sending command announcements making references to among us, or calling the queen a BIG CHUNGUS, we will step in.
You know you keep saying that yet at the same time you introduce rules that allow cults and insanity. How does that fit the setting? ASRS cults and other memes like that go directly against what you said here and yet are still allowed now. You still have people memeing around, you have people playing as space pirates, tribalmen, religious fanatics etc. You have MTs electrocuting brig doors every round because its aparently a great OOC laugh to sabotage MPs. And nothing is being done against any of this. If the bar is just not saying OOC stuff in IC than thats hardly even RP.

If you want to have a certain RP standard than you need people to play characters that fit the setting and the role they are playing and have IC reasoning for doing things. Going around smacking MPs because "haha funny red man bad" is not an IC reason. Breaking into medbay to steal a vendor because you know you will need it is downright metagaming. I don't think anyone ever argued for CM to be some hardcore mil-RP server. Literally all most roleplayers want is for people to play believable characters with IC reasons for their actions. Thats not a hard thing to do.

Another huge problem for RP on CM is the lack of required player interaction. It's a sad state of the game when 90% of the players can go about the whole round without uttering a single word. The development became so focused on the TDM combat portion that shipside could literally be removed today without any real effect. There are barely any jobs left up on the ship. And the gameplay became so streamlined with all the "QoL" stuff that there is no need to ever rely on other players. You don't need requisitions for attachments because you have your own vendor full of them. You don't need medbay because everything can be treated groundside and there is no lasting damage. You don't need engineering because there is no engine. You don't need command because you don't need tactics beyond clumping up to a murder ball. Departments don't have a job anymore and even on the rare occasions they do they are oversupplied and dead simple.

This whole focus on just combat lead to the development of this mindset that stuff like going back to the ship for medical care or resupply is "keeping you from the game" somehow while that in fact is part of the game. SS13 in general is not a game about winning or loosing the round but about the stories that are created during it.

I am convinced that given time and proper focus by the staff team (both admins and devs) CM could be set back on the right track. It's just the matter of actually wanting to do that and caring about the RP standard. No matter how much the management keeps saying they care about RP with their words, their actions keep going in the oposite direction.

Shipside is starting to look dangerously close to servers like TG/Goon and other LRP/NRP servers to the point of being unplayable for people who want more than a cheap laugh at an overused meme thats been running for half a year

Sadly it has become a shooter game with small roleplay on the side rather than a roleplay game with shooting.

I wouldn't even be mad but the IQ of the average private's very low, I would prefer to play with a dog sitting on a keyboard since it can actually listen and do stuff, instead of a bravo private nading the whole frontline or me getting plinked to death by some guy with a L42A.

You're laughing, the MPs just got their hands shocked and you're laughing.

This was the original vision of CM.

I don't think this is true at this point unfortunately.

It's far easier to tear down an established Roleplay Community with mechanics, background features and player mentality... than it is to build it up.
CM has spent the last 4 years doing exactly as you wrote out, streamlining the game to the point they destroyed the very foundations that I and others created for the game. Most importantly it also diverted and changed the views of the common player to the point where the player base is in-large No-RP to Low-RP now. To build the game back up to a higher RP standard or even enforcement would take YEARS of development, rule changes and then the playerbases mentality would change slowly overtime.

CM is simply not the game for roleplay anymore and it's a tough pill to swallow that in 2017 we were "arguably" at the height of Action/Roleplay of SS13 as opposed to CM being an Arcade/Action game that it is today.

Lastly I want to address the elephant in the room; What happened to CM was 100% due to weak and poor leadership over the years. People in positions of leadership and management who had no idea what they were doing or how to develop a game long-term and produced content that would impact the game long-term with little farsight.

The current staff may not be blamed for the state of CMs current standards however it's delusional to believe that the head staff, devs and anyone else on the team are going to be the people to bring back higher standards. They have demonstrated time and time again, primarily by contradictions and stated ideas that they have absolutely no idea on how to encourage or bring back roleplay to higher standards. They've essentially accepted this and have FINALLY gone Low-RP standards without stating it's Low-RPer. This is fine and great as CM can finally move on from this Ruse that their Medium-RP and can focus on the gameplay elements while abandoning any motion of RP moving forward.

This is however a great time for a new Action/Role-play game to come in as their has always been a market and demand for it. While current CM inches closer and closer to already existing servers ie; Mercs, TGCM etc

The chances are slim i know. I just can't help myself but hope. I know many people see officially going LRP (And yes that is what's happening, no ammount "rejecting the standard classification" can change the facts) as a good thing and i don't blame them. One can only mourn the loss of potential, essentially exchanging what could be a great roleplaying game with action element for a run of the mill TDM shooter.

If you know about one i'd be interested to hear about it. CM in its current state is not playable for me anymore yet sadly i can't find any game to scratch that itch.

I don't know of any Action/RP Games on SS13, it's a hard niche... Fallout13 Server is the closest but it's not really action oriented.
