Metatargeting is not an issue in CM. The very few occurances are really not worth the trouble. People can change their IC name.
It was proposed long time ago, supposedly its impossible to do in BYOND.

But the black outlines won't work with TDM we got in CM. Benos need to be able to know if you are carrying shotgun, if you are SADAR, or if you are just having a weak pulse rifle.
The concept before was to make benos unable to see marine names (numbers instead), while marines being unable to see xeno prefixes (only numbers).
This would be perfect solution that fits CM gameplay.

What about is12 system?
This seems like an absolute non-issue? Most xenos don’t even bother remembering the name of the SADAR this round. And the closest thing to meta-targeting I see is deadchat celebration when some of the better known Xenos get taken out.
In the heat of the battle, very few players seem to bother actually checking names of what they are clicking, so I’m not sure what more obfuscation is supposed to accomplish there?

It's not a non-issue.
Roleplay wise: "Hey did you see lurker BOO here?"
Gameplay wise: I know to avoid BOO because I know the player is good
Same things the other way, with xenos able to refer to marines by name, and avoid specific marines because they're familiar with the player through metaknowledge.
It may not be a big problem, but it IS a problem and should be treated as such. I feel like the same things you're saying now would've made just as much sense to you if we were talking about marines and xenos being able to understand each other; "It's not really a big deal, when are they ever going to talk anyway?" etc etc
