Basic Questions & StoryWhat do you think is the job of a Commander?
I somewhat see XO as the department head of CIC, while CO is department head of the ship (excluding the scenario where a CO isn't present and the XO is the aCO). If anything falls through, as CO you have the skillset to be there to do the job yourself.

Why do you want to be a Commanding Officer?
To see if I can. I enjoyed SL, SO, and XO. I enjoy organizing, talking to marines, and burning mongrel hides.

What do you think you could contribute by being whitelisted?
    1. I play a lot and genuinely care if I win or lose.

    2. In my experience speaking a lot is far better than not speaking at all.

    3. I am not above listening to suggestions or criticism of my play.

How will your Commanding Officer behave? Describe their character.
Poor Irish-German Catholic from a densely populated Rust Belt City. And the only reason at some point a German married an Irish, is because at least they weren't protestant. I usually speak in slurred language with certain words already even if I was playing as Marine. Seeing as how I start with a bible as CO, (let's ignore the fact it's filled with money) I would quote from my favorite relevant passages of Psalms and Revelations. Seeing as how we are struggling against Godless Communists from a corrupt totalitarian state, or Ancient Bioweapons of a Biblical proportion, a lot of these messages even from a secular world-view are relevant. I joined the corps to escape poverty and find a reason to exist as I increasingly discovered I had no marketable skills for the modern world. I also wear alpha gloves, as a moniker of most of my time in the marines served while Alpha SL, or marine.

Name and briefly describe your Commanding Officer's own ship.
The USS Broadsword, staffed by my cook Kumakisu Klein (I am a terrible cook).

It's a small modified fighter, modified to have a living quarters. I use it on vacation days with an EVA (Extra-Verhicular Activity) to just go sightseeing on random planets for cool rocks (I did it when I was in grade school in the playground, I'll do it now, damnit).

Your story (potential topics listed below)
I was once an extremely angry Alpha marine before being told by various members to stop being salty or whining. So across many OPs on the USS Almayer, I have naturally continues up the ranks from Alpha SL, to SO, to XO.

An operation I had below Commander Balto on LV-624. He let me come up with the plan, and command it while he ran the ship. He inspected the departments to make sure all were properly staffed, and concluded on assisting req while occasionally visiting CIC. The plan was land in Alamo, delta Fixed power, Alpha fortified Hydroponics, Charlie fortified Hydro road, and Bravo had FOB duty. I also ordered additional budget for building materials. I can't remember if there were any gaps, because I ignored the concept completely. I hate gaps, and the jungle on this map. It is better, often to just use main roads on every single map as it avoids unnecessary piece-meal losses. 4 marines permaed in the jungle or some random building is the Bain of my existence. That aside, Charlie is there to help if Alpha is attack, or if the LZ is rushed. The only weak point of the plan was Delta which was somewhat isolated, and my solution was having the Bravo SL make a fireteam of marines, the SG, and Spec to go and relieve Delta if they were overwhelmed at power. Charlie fortified the road mostly due to a personnel pet peeve I have toward runners, lurkers, and warriors. They can sit at that road and pick off important medical or IO staff as they transport bodies and intel from the fronts at hydro/barren/caves to the LZ. Delta didn't meet resistance cause the SL was a competent one I knew would do the job well, and joined Alpha at Hydro/Research. Then we waited until the fog was down as the engis from Charlie and Bravo secured a proper caded line all the way from hydro to the LZ. Once that was done, Charlie joined with the main forces, and the fog fell. It was a complete blow-out. The enemy tried boiler spam - Which Balto himself thought would stop us in our tracks - , but the full strength of all 3 squads, and the fireteam from bravo got all the way to the caves in less than 5 minutes. The operation was over and done before 13:00.

I have 40 hours as SL, 23 as XO, 18 as SO, and 8 hours as Specialist as of current service records. My medals are a Distinguished Conduct medal as XO, a Distinguished Conduct Medal as Mess Sarge, and Bronze Heart as Alpha SL. Of the 13 operations I have managed as XO, only 3 have ended in evacuation of civilian and military personnel.

ExperienceHow experienced are you with the position of a Squad Leader (SL)?
40 hours. Generally Speaking I've come to 3 conclusions about squads.

    1. If you die, cohesion completely collapses and murderball/route will probably occur.

    2. Cohesion can be very effective at first drop, but if you get bogged down at a front where other squads are contained and you don't make an active effort to keep your squad in a certain area, you effectively become a communications hub for Jtac, CIC, Medical, and Req that occasionally gives out buffs.

    3. People listen if you don't make enemies. Descalation is important to communication and people doing what you say.

How experienced are you with the position of a Staff Officer (SO)?
After 18 odd hours as SO, I can say you mostly serve to:

    1. Find isolated dead corpses.

    2. Remind marines to wear a bleedin helmet.

    3. Communicate possible flanks for the whole of the Platoon to know.

    4. Make sure that individual squads are keeping up with any and all objectives. I.E. If an SL didn't read the map, it's your job to tell 'em the right direction to go.

    5. End them freaking out from stress by telling them what is going on. So many of the worst raging I see is coming from people just not being heard, or responded to.

How experienced are you with the position of a Department Head?
Sadly I don't have much experience outside of military or command roles.

How experienced are you with the position of the Executive Officer (XO)?
As XO, you have all the job details and SO, but often must serve as aCO. I have 23 hours of experience with 10 our of the 13 OPs I was acting in ending in success.

How familiar are you with Marine Law and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)?
I am familiar with SOP mostly for members of CIC. Marine Law I am only somewhat knowledgeable of due to most of it being obvious.

ScenariosWhen do you believe a Battlefield Execution should be used? List some examples of scenarios in which a battlefield execution would be correctly used.
For an example, outright insubordination that they refuse to resolve peacefully despite descalation. We're being eaten or shot at by commies. We need to speak to each other. Especially in this case if they come to the conclusion of desertion or mutiny/sedition.

    1. Attempted Murder, or Murder of a fellow marine, be it a lowly Private or a member of CIC.

    2. Jailbreaking someone or an individual escaping the brig.

    3. And previously mentioned Desertion/Sedition.

Under what circumstances do you believe it is legal to pardon a prisoner? What are some examples of crimes you would pardon, and those you would not?
I believe any and all minor crimes can be pardoned if lives are at stake and the prisoner's skills are needed. The only major crime I can think of pardoning is manslaughter.

The only time I have ever desperately wanted to pardon someone was when the MPs wrongfully arrested an agent for metagaming reasons. I couldn't cause I was XO, and the CO went to cryo. Their reasoning was that the gloves he had were suspicious. Y'know, the text! And he handed them to me and told me to try them on, which you physically can't do as a non-agent. I took the identical black gloves I had on and threw them at the MP's feet asking if he was gonna arrest me for wearing black gloves and demanded he be pardoned, all the while profusely apologizing to the ambassador hoping to avoid a diplomatic incident.

What is your routine after starting the round as either a Staff Officer or Executive Officer? Assume you joined round-start and are inside your quarters.
Imma just do this as a roll call of priorities.
    Announce Briefing time. ->
Set up CIC squad computers and dole out who is managing which. ->
Ask what the main dropship is if I am not in the command position. ->
Do same with Defcon Assets. ->
Grab Medical HUDs for CIC. ->
Go dispense for req as XO. ->
    Go to briefing. ->
Modify plan depending on squad compositions on the crew manifest. ->
Mention the Launch time for marines and POs. ->
    Reannounce orders. ->
    Operation begins as DS lands.

How would you handle insubordinate departments? State what you would do for each department if they were insubordinate.
If all else fails, the conclusion is do it yourself. In every single operation I have had, I've not had an insubordinate department (even when the head of medical put on warhammer fantasy robes), BUT if I did, the CO is trained somewhat in the fields of medicine, construction, and engineering. If any of the heads don't follow-through you have been trained to do the job yourself as the MPs move the offenders to the brig.

How would you handle an understaffed CIC? What if you and the XO are the only available CIC crew?
When it comes to CIC, I would take Alpha, and Bravo overwatch while XO takes Delta and Charlie overwatch while doing my command duties over the radio. I have been completely alone in CIC as the XO and been able to handle it by just using the radio. Again, honesty is important. You have 50+ people ready to command all with standard issue radios. Speak. To. Them. When I am alone in CIC, I let every SL and department head know, asking them to carry their own weight than usual. Generally, a lot of department heads and SLs can make calls on their own, they just usually want approval. As long as they inform me and their squads/departments over the radios, I will trust the brain on their head to be functioning as well as mine.

What would you do if you were deployed and a marine told you they were going to desert the operation?
Descalation is the name of the game. Ask why and go from there. Sometimes they just want to vent, and you have an amazing power that often I don't see utilized enough, apologizing. Apologies from CIC, and a promise to do right by the mistake, has never failed for me as XO. If all else fails, as Commander you have your Metaba.

Need more time as SL. -1!!!

In all seriousness though, I personally have never seen you play SL nor command even (Which is probably timezones issues). But from what I have gathered from other players and yours answers about SL'n I'm sure you'll be fine as CO.

Though remember, playtime in a role isn't what matters entirely, when I ask if people are willing to play more of a role I just want to see competent rounds. 10 hours of competence over 50 hours of incompetence, there is a large difference.

Give 'em the damn role so I can steal their mateba. +1 from me though I hope to see you actually lead.

I'll try to condense this as much as possible, lest my reply ends up being bigger than your post.

What do you think is the job of a Commander?
While the question is poorly worded, your answer is not what the question asks. It asks what is the job of the CO, not XO.

Why do you want to be a Commanding Officer?
Please put a little bit more of thought into this answer next time. Everyone applied for CO because they wanted to or were curious about the role but writing that verbatim as an answer defeats the purpose of the question.

What do you think you could contribute by being whitelisted?
Genuinely caring about winning or losing is not the way to go about this wl, let alone CM in general. The other two answers are insufficient as well, as the things described in them are a part of a whitelisted CO's basic expectations. It is implied you will do this as a whitelisted CO, it's not something optional.

How experienced are you with the position of a Staff Officer (SO)?
You will never be an effective CIC player if you let yourself be bogged down by marines not wearing helmets or raging because some marines can't catch what you're saying the first three or four times. You've stated you have a lot of experience playing SL (And hopefully that means other squad marine roles as well), you should have a very good understanding of why communication errors between CIC and the ground commonly occur.

How experienced are you with the position of a Department Head?
You should get to playing these roles as well, and becoming adept at them preferably. If you don't understand the finer workings of all the support roles under your disposal as a command player you will hit your personal ceiling with regards to mastering command pretty fast.

How experienced are you with the position of the Executive Officer (XO)?
We don't care about win rates. What are the actual distinctions between the SO and the XO? What can the latter do that the former can't? Elaborate.

How familiar are you with Marine Law and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)?
Please get intimately familiar with the subject matter, you can and will be held responsible when you fall short on marine law related matters. Including but not limited to getting arrested, brigged, demoted and player reported.

When do you believe a Battlefield Execution should be used? List some examples of scenarios in which a battlefield execution would be correctly used.
No, no, no, wrong, wrong, wrong. Just one of the points here you've mentioned would net you a fat whitelist suspension.

Under what circumstances do you believe it is legal to pardon a prisoner? What are some examples of crimes you would pardon, and those you would not?
The point of a pardon is whether or not should someone be let go because they're more useful to everyone by being on the ground or working in their department. Every minor and major crime is pardonable under your discretion as outlined in Marine Law, you shouldn't decide to deny someone a pardon JUST BECAUSE you personally feel that the crime they've commited is brigworthy no matter what. A pardon is a pragmatic decision, you don't do it, or decide not to do it, out of principle.

How would you handle insubordinate departments? State what you would do for each department if they were insubordinate.
This contradicts your earlier statements about how important it is to be talkative as a command player. So if someone defies your direct order(s), you'd just silently shuffle down and try to do it yourself and ignore them? And again, you telling us you had no personal experience dealing with an insubordinate department just tells us you're not really experienced as a command player more than anything else.

I'll stop here, because my verdict on the app should be more than obvious by now.

Rem pointed out most of the wrong answers, alongside that your story is you re-telling a previous round, which is not what you are supposed to write in it. You are supposed to create a unique story around your character.

Alongside that I have personally never seen you, focus on playing a lot more and you will probably be able to get through the app next time.

I'll edit it cause I clearly misunderstood a lot of the question, but

    >No, no, no, wrong, wrong, wrong. Just one of the points here you've mentioned would net you a fat whitelist suspension.

The Wiki says all of those things as capital crime that lead to execution or permanent brig time. Where would I find good examples of BE?

I meant I'd edit the submission overall for a resubmission at a later date. Sorry, poor wording.
