Basic Questions & StoryWhat do you think is the job of a Commander?
The Commander plays a crucial role. It exists to set a direction for the operation and set an example for the marines. It's the lynchpin binding all the departments together on the ship and on the ground working within unison with the ground side forces filling in to ensure their survival. Sometimes, this isn't something that can be accomplished, but even if it cannot, a good commander can lead an operation from a hopeless battle to a close fight and, if they get lucky enough, a victory. In the end, though, I believe each round is its own story, and the Captain serves as a driving force to get it started.

Why do you want to be a Commanding Officer?
I stuck around in CM after my couple of rounds due to the Captain's interactions towards the marines, I feel like I am mature enough, and I have enough sense to lead in the grand scheme of things as I continue to work on XO. I won't say I am perfect, but I believe I can step up into the Captain role and help teach new XO's like countless others have done for me.

What do you think you could contribute by being whitelisted?
While sometimes, my character can be a tad silly. I have never broken consistency with him, and I can help drive more roleplay within the round and help new XO's/SO/and players in a positive direction. While also on occasion busting out a new strategy or plan to ensure that you know the same map doesn't get stale. Challenging a meta is never a bad idea. It can end badly sometimes, but you never know if you're too scared to try.

How will your Commanding Officer behave? Describe their character.
Braden is a bit of an eccentric. Following Military law and SOP, he does encourage an almost spiritual connection to his men, inspiring acts of his warriors to accomplish great things. He is a papa wolf to his men though he is quick to reign them in or direct them towards an enemy target if it becomes overly much to the point it could hinder an operation. His loyalty to the USMC is unbreakable as he views it as the one organization that gave him a purpose beyond a simple farmer's son. When he's angry, he sometimes slips into a southern accent to which his men look at the unfortunate bastard who gets his wraith with glee.

Name and briefly describe your Commanding Officer's own ship.
    The USS Defiance

A USMC heavy-cruiser that contained six point defense systems, as well as an orbital cannon. While she's been retrofitted several times in its lifespan, it currently operates on light armaments. It serves a purpose as a massive troop transport. Most of its former systems were abandoned and scrapped in favor of more transportation and cargo room. Usually in operation with an escort of more heavily armed ships as it enters a target's orbit to keep on a constant flow of troops pouring down on the ground and making use of several of its drop pods to send down his elite forces behind the enemy lines.

The ship itself houses the 29th Mechanized infantry battalion "Iron Wolves" known for their pact philosophy and combat effectiveness. Their unit's elites were often called Deathwishers within the squadron due to their higher than average casualty rate. The meeker outside the company shows some small concerns over rumored ruthlessness within the unit. But the usual MO is to use the orbital cannons of the ship in concert with others in the area to soften a target, dropdown elite behind enemy lines to cause as much chaos as possible as the leading force floods the front line with infantry and light tanks.

Your story (potential topics listed below)
So this going to be a tad long. I've gotten positive feedback. If length is an issue and you want the TLDR CTRL F to act 3.

ExperienceHow experienced are you with the position of a Squad Leader (SL)?
I am extremely experienced with SL. It's my go-to if I am not playing a shipside role. I usually go for Alpha SL. But I started out as a Delta SL waaaaay back in the day and bounced between Charlie and Alpha before settling on Alpha.

How experienced are you with the position of a Staff Officer (SO)?
Fairly experienced, I usually play low-pop, so I end up on XO more often than SO. But really, when soloing the CIC, you do everything they're supposed to do.

How experienced are you with the position of a Department Head?
With all positions barring CMP's, I am fairly experienced in all departments in both roles and as a head. In general, from my experience, pretimelocks and post is CMO, CE, RO, CMP.

How experienced are you with the position of the Executive Officer (XO)?
I am likely around 50 hours from current and post timelock. I won't claim I am a perfect XO. But I am capable and able even when soloing the CIC.

How familiar are you with Marine Law and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)?
Fairly knowledgeable on both ends. While playing MP, which I admit is not something I really desire to do. I am capable enough to fulfill the role effectively. It's not overly challenging to enforce the law without being a dick, and my experience in other departments has me working with SOP reasonably often.

ScenariosWhen do you believe a Battlefield Execution should be used? List some examples of scenarios in which a battlefield execution would be correctly used.
Like many others, I won't say that I would use a BE as a first or last resort. I enjoy roleplay, and I don't mind a bit of back and forth. That said, if someone goes out of their way to just be an utter shitter and acting in a way that makes me believe they as players have no desire to roleplay and just want to screw the operation, it should be used. Protection of the operation is essential.

Here are the examples I would use a BE in

A marine attempting to gather up people for a munity.

An SO who keeps disregarding orders to compromise the operations by, say, issuing opposing orders to cause squadron chaos, needlessly berating their squadron, or trying to commit sedition by sweet-talking the troops to get them to side with him over myself. Or you now say bombs the heck out of the FOB while giggling about it.

A marine who is defying orders and causing the whole team to be placed within a compromising situation.

Under what circumstances do you believe it is legal to pardon a prisoner? What are some examples of crimes you would pardon, and those you would not?
I believe a pardon should be issued if a crime is minor enough or if the motive is to keep the operation moving smoothly. On occasion, the MP's enforce military law heavy-handily without putting in considerations of reasons. I'll list some examples below

    WHAT I WOULD PARDON:

Marines arrested for just shoving someone or literally having a bit of conflict pre-op don't actually amount to much. It's a ship of rowdy men, and provided it's within reason (See more on what I won't pardon), I am pretty okay with that.

A member of req getting jailed over breaking into the RO's office for a stamp. (Provided we have no RO. Or no RO at the time it was done.)

A squad engineer hacking a vendor to allow all access instead of having the SL just dump everything within.

    WHAT I WOULD NOT PARDON:

Capital Crimes (though, depending on circumstance if I believe the Marine is innocent or other factors are at bay that his punishment is too hard. I would fax high command as well with the marines plea.)

A marine who is just trolling around and jailed for smashing glass for lulz, starting a fight, or just trying to delay deployment for attention or whatever reason.

Any crimes that lead to escalate into a marine being killed or put in crit.

A squad engineer who just rips apart their squad req so they can get metal at 5 minutes into the operation.

What is your routine after starting the round as either a Staff Officer or Executive Officer? Assume you joined round-start and are inside your quarters.
My routine is as XO follows:

Wake up, announce my presence, get a beret, get a pack of smokes, and a coffee. Then, I go to the CIC. Greet the people there rp a bit. If no captain is awake, I pick an LZ, call a briefing time, pull up a map, and come up with a plan while pulling each squad's rosters to know I am assigning people in the right areas. Meanwhile, keeping in communications with the rest of the departments if I have SO's and req/medbay need help. I would get the lads moving and, if time is permitting, help them myself if I don't have anyone. If I am free from assisting other departments, I do one last check of squads making sure they got SL's/ASLS, making sure the OB is loaded, and I get my rear to the briefing. If I am not free, that bit comes after briefing or delegated to an SO.

How would you handle insubordinate departments? State what you would do for each department if they were insubordinate.
    Medical:

I don't usually see many problems with medical. Barring, you know, research trying to rush ultrazine or green benos. In any situation where themselves or a Doctor is causing the operation to falter, I would first attempt to work with the CMO to see what we can do to rebalance the operation because sometimes new people screw things up without intending to do so, and the last thing I honesty want to do is a slap a guy who really doesn't know any better. We all start out at different levels of ability, and I am not really the type of guy who believes in starting out heavy-handed.

However, that said. If I don't believe that a reasonable faith effort between the CMO and myself can resolve the problem, I will become involved in warning the Doctor. Maybe sending down the synth or an SO down to help medbay, and if he ignored the warnings, I would use the military police to detain the insubordinate party by force. If the CMO is the problem, I will replace him with an acting CMO.

    Requisitions:

If we have issues with requisitions, it depends on the subject. If the CT's/RO isn't responsive, they get replaced. If they're wasting budget on pointless stuff, they'll be replaced, and the military police will get involved and potentially myself depending on the severity. I want to believe that people deserve chances, but req is hard to mess up, and it's pretty easy to spot someone just intentionally dicking with the operation instead of, say medbay, where if the doctor is new, mistakes can happen.

    The Military Police:

The military police should not be insubordinate in the first place. Being insubordinate breaks ML. I would try to work with the CMP while AHELPING/faxing high Command to get the department under control. If we can get it like that, awesome, and the admins are aware of a potential trouble maker in the very least. If the CMP is apart of the problem, I wouldn't even extend to them and just talk to the admins to resolve the issue.

    Engineering:

I'm going to be real. I don't think I have ever seen this. I guess if I had to deal with it. I would either reload the OB myself or delegate it to the XO. Depending on if I have him on point running the operation or myself.

    CIC:

In the case of SO's, I would warn and then remove them from the CIC. Possible reassignment, if not arrest and reassignment, if we have to go the arresting route, the punishment would be progressively worse depending on what exactly they're doing. The XO himself would follow the same procedure, though, in his case, if he was trying to gather up support for a mutiny, he would be BE'd. If he was only a minor hindrance, I would try to work with him because, God knows, when I was starting out my XO grind, I made mistakes, and if that didn't work, I would reassign him to a different department where he can't cause any harm.

How would you handle an understaffed CIC? What if you and the XO are the only available CIC crew?
Heh, well. Story of my life when I XO I typically play low pop. I consider myself lucky if I get an SO. If, as Captain, if I only have an XO around, we would decide who wants to take the point for the plan and just divvy up the other tasks. XO is excellent when you have an experienced Captain with you who can help you learn, grow, and discover your niche in leadership and playoff your own style, and you're both equally talented (In theory) to cover misc tasks around the ship. I think every CO/XO relationship is a partnership, and I am not the type of guy to leave my bud hanging. Work in tandem, and together we can keep the train going.

What would you do if you were deployed and a marine told you they were going to desert the operation?
Braden would take the marine aside and understand why while saying something motivational about the promised lands where warriors go and how the people on the ground were the few good men keeping the menace at bay. If he abandoned his brothers, he would be one of us no longer and quickly dead to him, dead to the world, and if he were to returns to the ship, the only thing waiting for him would be a cell if he was fortunate. If he did it on the field and we found him. It would result in a BE. I tend to play a high-energy character, so I am hoping with Braden's warrior's spirit and the HARSH punishment awaiting cowardice, it would solve the issue. While Braden, on a human level, understands fear, he does not have the luxury of tolerating it on the battlefield. Maybe post-op, he'll say something privately to the XO or someone he trusts he'll regret that he had to do it. But he's a papa wolf to his men.

I've had Braden as my XO before and he's very reliable and commits to the role fully. He is a good roleplayer. The application is also high effort.

    I trust him with CO.

Solid player and I talked over the app a lot with him, easy +1 from me. Like I said on discord mate, mainline SL and XO for the next few weeks and you should be golden.

You talked to me before you posted this, and all that good jazz, I will +1 this in hopes that you can stop playing XO because I know how truly painful it is. You're also a good XO.

Full disclosure: I actually suggested that Aces make an application. With that in mind and the fact I'm confident in his answers, I'm going to leave an early +1 here. Good luck.

Big +1 from me. Used to interact and play with him a lot during my tenure as PO and SO pre-quarantine and never had a complaint about the man. Especially solid SL, takes the time to help mentor inexperienced soldiers, occasionally pops in for a Charlie breakfast or two, and generally is sure to engage his squad in banter and coordination. Solid story, solid answers, and brings a refreshing and energetic personality to the rounds he end's up running CIC. Go gettem Braden
