Quick tips and tricks for new Sl

Hello, Ryan Smith here, I'm trying to become a squad leader, but on my first employment I ended up calling an ob on half our troops, any info you could provide to help me as a Sl, ob related or otherwise

you have engineering and medical skills, if you're low on medics or engineers fill in for them, and let the PFCs/Specs/gunners shoot xenos

just accept some people won't listen to orders, it's inevitable

keep your squad filled in on where the squad is (or should be) what you're all doing and any important information, don't assume everyone will read the overwatch info, that it will be set or updated, or be accurate

You should always be around marines, so IFF weapons are a good investment

Make sure to be personable with your marines, so they know who you are and that you can be trusted to not be a shitter

sometimes you will fuck up, learn to seperate the critisism from the vitriol

Communication is key, even before the drop you should be chatting to people, asking if anyones new, building up comradery etc. Don't be the 'brooding' SL who only gives out orders and nothing else. Dont worry about the OB, everyones dont it atleast once. Don't get angry over marines not following you because frankly alot of them wont, consider the rambos as scouts and flankers and keep your core team with you as you push, but if you start building up your reputation as a decent SL (which is why you wanna be talking lots and generally get yourself known) more will start following you

Always be talking to your squad, making friends that last longer than the round is very important. Stick to one squad to SL for a while, as most players tend to stick to one squad too and you need that name recognition. Also, go for Bravo or Charlie if you want a simple SL experience to start off. Bravo is boring as shit but most marines will wait until you tell them to leave the FOB. Charlie will actually follow an order, but only the most important ones they get at the start of the op. Delta is just pointing your guys in the right direction and keeping them stocked up with supplies. Alpha is a lot of newbies, and while I love em all to bits, it's a hard experience. Also don't give M15s to people you don't really trust, had multiple squad wipes to those fuckers.

Half your squad will not pay attention to your orders, gotta just accept it eventually. Have bravado and chill with your gang of ungas so they trust you. Learn how to jtac, ill talk obs real quick in bit. Also get a non 'direct fire' loadout. Like some sort of smart scope, or mini medic, don't think SLs can use defibs however. People like shitting on SLs as just being PVT+. But what makes the difference between an SL and a PVT+ is the ability to coordinate and flank. Having a loadout that keeps you out of direct fire and slashing helps you talk more! Can't talk dead. Remember that latitude is north south. Longitude is east west. I remember it by the phrase: "A Tall Latte". Because tall is north/south, if that makes sense!

Dividing your squad into fireteams is niche, I think most SLs don't do it anymore because smaller fireteams just don't have the same firepower.

Getting good at multitasking and being able to read multiple chats (Command, Squad, JTAC/Sister Squad if you're a forward group)

Knowing when and when to not use your buffs. They're really useful, and the benefits can save you a casualty or two in an engagement

As mentioned before, getting to know people in your squad and building relationships is important. Your squad won't have faith in you if they think you're a baldie SL, be the guy that your squad is excited to have lead them in a round

FTs are only good for Bravo really and even then just 1 FT.

No point for Spec and SG to stay at FOB, its always better to send them to the front with some ungas and a medic to support Delta or Charlie.
