2.) Security Information

Security Record:
Spoiler:
Incident Report #25753 (08/21XX):
LCPL Misti Rockwell, Bravo Squad Medic, discharged her L42A Battle Rifle amidst the Requsitions waiting line, hitting a Delta Marine in the chest. Delta Marine received medical care and survived the incident. LCPL Rockwell was brigged and interviewed.
Interview Log reveals that the LCPL 'accidentally' pulled the trigger while trying to take off an attachment of her gun while waiting for the Requisitions line to move forward. Believability of this statement is dubious. Chief MP decided to issue LCPL Misti Rockwell a B8 Smart scope, and ordered her to use it at all times from this point forward to avoid hitting friendlies.
Medical Record:
Spoiler:
- Slight bruising on her left hip. Wound carried over from her time aboard USS Alistoun. Patient does not report any signs of pain upon putting pressure on the injury.
- Research log C-1592#5, regarding Patient M-R's condition:
Spoiler:
Patient exhibits strange behaviour when under immense pressure and stress. They appear to partially lose awareness of themselves and their surroundings and enter a sort of 'battle-frenzy'. Patient will show great lack of self-preservation and even wishes to go as far as 'sacrificing' themselves to, quote, 'die a Warrior's death'. Examination has shown them ruthlessly attacking even so much as immobile training dummies while in this state, once again displaying their lack of accute awareness. Their frenzy is often lead by a shout of the Japanese phrase "TennÅheika Banzai!", after which they will try to use any available weapon in an aggressive assault. Testing has concluded they will resort to anything, no matter how little or dangerous, including a bayonet, knife, rock, hand grenade or their mere fists. Patient has also been observed attempting to 'bite' victims in training environment, attempting to chew through skin with sheer force.
Due to their heritage and phrase shouted by the Patient every time, it is believed the Patient is under the impression of leading a sort of 'Banzai charge', akin to those lead by ancient Japanese Warriors, and Soldiers in World War 2. Doctors are still conflicted whether this behaviour is caused entirely as a result of RESS Propaganda and Indoctrination, urging her to die for the Emperor in Combat, or whether she suffers from some sort of PTSD or other such condition which might trigger this behaviour. The latter garners much more traction and believability, as the Patient reveals highly emotional and empathetic skills during normal conversation, and it is thus deemed unlikely they are acting entirely on their own. Local Marines, particularly those close to the Patient, have urged Medical Staff to find a way to cure or otherwise prevent these conditions so as to avoid the Patient causing any harm to themselves in Combat - so far without success.

Begin Log #25129. Date: [Expunged]. Interview between LCPL Misti Rockwell and Warden, LT [Redacted] following the former's brief incarceration (See Security Records):
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "Didn't take long for me to realise Bravo was the best Squad for me when I was finally moved off the Alistoun."
LT [Redacted]: "Why did you want to be moved off the USS Alistoun so badly, anywho?"
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "You kidding? That place was rife with defeatism. Morale was all but gone. I personally wrote a request to be moved out before I would go insane there, and issued it to the CO. I hate paperwork, so me doing any of it tells you just how bad it was."
LT [Redacted]: "Right. And clearly he granted you your request, and you were moved here instead. Why did you mention Bravo was the right squad for you, specifically?"
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "So far? We've only got to do the easiest tasks! Command always has us stick to the Landing zones of the Dropships, or at best moves us up to hold some wacky FOB. Turns out Casualty rate are lowest for the Squad that doesn't charge ahead blindly, and sits comfortably behind rows of sandbags, barbed wire and barricades. Helps when you've got Machine Guns and Sentries to boot, as well."
LT [Redacted]: "So, in other words, you like being in Bravo because it's the easiest place to be? So you can be, excuse me for simplifying, lazy and relax while on duty?"
The Lance Corporal can be seen scratching the back of her head while smiling back at the Lieutenant with a sheepish smile.
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "Well, I won't deny that it's a nice luxury that comes with the position. But the Squad is also full of nice people, you know. Turns out that the aforementioned lower casualty rates result in some higher quality meat running out and about in yellow uniform around here."
LT [Redacted]: "You've made acquaintances yet?"
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "Oh, sure I have. Plenty of great folks around in Fobbit Central - that's what some of the boys call us - but I'm bad with names. I can't really recall most people's names. Not yet, anywho. Will need some more practice and exposure for that."
LT [Redacted]: "Right, I suppose having your mind on medical procedures in the field does that. People's names are probably your least concern then."
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "Oh, it's not that! I'm actually just bad with names. Not that I have a bad memory, but I suck with names."
LT [Redacted]: "You really just forget people's names?"
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "Yup. Good thing I can always just look at people's uniforms and read their rank insignia, and refer to them by rank instead. I call my Squad Lead by Staff Sergeant more often than I do by name - primarily cause I don't remember the latter. That said, I do remember that one guy."
The Warden looks up from his written notes for the Interview.
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "That funky Russian guy... Boris was his name, I think? Yeah, Boris. People call him 'Tsar' I think. He's a great guy. We hang out while on duty frequently. He's the Engineer, so I try to help with filling out Sandbags and such where I can. Helps speed things up. Great guy though. Hah, his uniform actually reminds me of those old Russian uniforms from the Russian Federation. You know those Paratrooper Helmets they had? With the goggles on top of them? That's how he looks. Well, except he wears yellow instead of just green, but you get the idea."
LT [Redacted]: "You... mean the same guys as from that old, incredibly odd Song? VDV or whatever?"
The Lance Corporal shrugs with her shoulders.
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "I wouldn't know. Not like they showed us Russian Propaganda videos in good ol' Nippon."
LT [Redacted]: "So you really did grow up in Japan? Your Files say you're..."
The Lieutenant opens a red folder and turns a few pages within it.
LT [Redacted]: "...you're Anglo-Japanese, with German heritage?"
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "My Mother is Japanese, whereas my Father grew up with his family in England. He was a second generation immigrant from Germany, however, so he spoke both English and German fluently. He taught me some during childhood, too, but English was more important for me to grasp at the time than some language that was doomed to fizzle out sooner or later, what with the Royal Empire's rise and the United Americas and such. I ended up sticking to both English and Japanese."
LT [Redacted]: "So your Father grew up in England? How'd your parents ever meet, being across the World like that?"
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "As I said: The rise of the Royal Empire changed things. Japan pretty much owned Britain when they bought out their economy, so my Father was one of many who saw fit to go to Japan to find work there. He met my Mum sometime along the way, and she helped him with learning her native tongue. One thing leads to another and... well, here I am."
The Lieutenant looks at his watch and shuts the red folder next to him again.
LT [Redacted]: "Right, I think we've strayed a little from work relations, and are out of time anywho. The Chief MP will be with you in a second, so just hold on tight one more moment if you would."
LCPL Misti Rockwell: "Yeah, sure. Whatever."
The Warden stands up gathers his notes and folder before moving his hand towards the Recorder on the table.
End Log.
3.) Personal Background
Spoiler:
Begin Log #27821. Date: [Expunged]. Following is an Interview Transcript between Weston-Yamada Executive and USS Almayer Corporate Liaison Jonathan Bricks and Lance Corporal Misti Rockwell. Location: Corporate Office.
Mr. Bricks: "Can I offer you a drink, Miss Rockwell? Some food? A Cigar, by chance?"
The Liaison, who sits on his faux leather chair nudges towards what appears to be a cigar case on the desk.
LCPL Rockwell: "No thanks. I'll pass, I think."
Mr. Bricks: "You surprise me, Ma'am. Forgive me, but it seems our records show you as being quite the heavy smoker."
LCPL Rockwell: "I am. Or... used to be. I don't really know. I used to smoke a lot, to my Mother's torment, up until I was moved here, to the Almayer. I actually managed to meet interesting folk here, unlike at the Alistoun or [Expunged] base on Luna. People that, honestly, I don't feel like losing, or upsetting. One of them is an Italian - and man, he's super against smoking. Anytime I even go near a package of cigs, he'll metaphorically slap my hand and tell me to drop the habit."
Mr. Bricks: "I see..."
The Liaison can be seen typing a few lines of text on his Computer's keyboard, the monitor of which is turned towards him and not visible to the Lance Corporal.
Mr. Bricks: "How come you've made... friends only now?
LCPL Rockwell: "I'm not big into investing myself too much into people, normally."
Mr. Bricks: "Because you don't want to feel bad when you lose them in combat?"
LCPL Rockwell: "No, or rather, yes that too, but what I meant was that becoming friends with people inevitably leads to you being preferred over others. It's natural nepotism. I can't have that."
Mr. Bricks: "You sound like you're speaking from personal experience, Miss. Perhaps we should start from the beginning?"
The Lance Corporal remains idle for a few seconds and puts her hands on the wooden desk, folding them together.
LCPL Rockwell: "I grew up in Japan, as you surely know. Born to a British-German Father and Japanese Mother, our Family was more or less symbolic of what our Nation - or Nations - were going through at the time. The Anglo-Japanese Union is still a fickle thing, at times, but people are acceptant by now. Anywho, have you ever been to Japan, Corporate?"
Mr. Bricks: "I can't say that I have."
LCPL Rockwell: "Then you probably have all kinds of stereotypes in your mind regarding Japan and life in the same. Cities that are way too densely built and populated, clogged traffic and trams, work ethic where breaks are more of a punishment than relief. That stuff. Me? Well... I was born in a City, near Okayama. It's where my Mother lived at the time, and thus where my Father moved in with her when they married. By the time I was born, they'd already received a child - my old sis' - and decided that an Appartment in the City was both too expensive and too crowded for a fully fledged Family."
Mr. Bricks: "I think I know where you're going with this."
LCPL Rockwell: "Yeah, we moved out. Ended up settling in for a small rural town. Far from City-life, but not too far to be entirely cut from civilization per se. My Father, who had more than enough Money to support us on his lonesome by working for W-Y, was often gone and travelled abroad, so my Mother was the one who raised me primarily. Rural Japan is... honestly, it's an entirely different thing to the City. It's idyllic, peaceful, clean. Anything you could really ask for. Heck, our Village was so small that, when I went to School, there were such few Students that we only had one Class total. It was all a bunch of mixed grades - Grade 1 to 8, and anything in between with 8 Students from the Village total. Only one Teach, too. It was self-study, mainly, as such. Pretty hard - or so I imagine in comparison to what 'normal' school is meant to be like, but my Mum made sure to... 'encourage' me to work hard. Let's just leave it at that, heh."
The Liaison continues typing things on his keyboard as the Lance Corporal recalls her story.
Mr. Bricks: "And yet, with a Father able to support an entire Family, a loving Mother and an idyllic homestead... I must come to ask why you now sit where you do. Why did you ever even join the Military, of all things? And why the US Marine Corps, and not the RESS Military?"
The Lance Corporal grumbles and bites her lip, visibly distraught and uneasy.
LCPL Rockwell: "Japan is a wondrous place, Mister Brick. Sure I grew up in the Countryside, but the Government still reached out to us same as all others. We were still installed Discipline and sense of duty. And with that sense of duty, as for most young japanese people, came a will to protect the nation and its people. The Government would show us imagery of Soldiers of old - anything from Samurai Warriors whose will was so unwavering that they charged Rifles with nothing but wooden armour and swords, and Japanese Pilots who would sacrifice their own lives willingly and knowingly in hopes of defending their Country and loved ones."
The Liaison stops typing rather abruptly. He briefly freezes, then turns his eyes from the Computer Screen towards the Lance Corporal.
Mr. Bricks: "Ma'am, you're aware you're serving in the United States Marine Corps while talking about the glorification of Kamikaze Pilots, correct?"
LCPL Rockwell: "Unethical methods or not, they were Soldiers who went all the way to do their duty. They were willing to sacrifice it all to protect nation and family. To me, that is honourable and respectable. And as someone who grew up in the previously mentioned idyllic countryside, with a loving Mother, I quickly grew a similar resolve."
Mr. Bricks: "So why not join the Japanese Forces then?"
LCPL Rockwell: "See, before I even made my call to enlist - enlist anywhere at all that is - my sister had been years ahead of me. She joined the Royal Navy years before, had completed Warrant Officer's Course and, by the time I confronted her and my Mother with wanting to join the Military, she was a Captain. My Mother wasn't thrilled about me - her second and younger child - now also being willing to join the forces and being willing to throw her life away. One was enough, she said, but my mind was set, and after some grief she accepted my decision. However, my Sister, who was much more excited for me joining, immediately expected and encouraged me to join the Navy."
Mr. Bricks: "You didn't."
LCPL Rockwell: "I couldn't. My Sister is a Captain of her own light Cruiser, and if I'd have joined the Navy, she would have simply played a few trump cards from up her sleeves and ensured I was moved to her vessel, then she would have promoted me to some kind of NCO. Leading Seaman, she suggested, perhaps even Petty Officer. First Class. It's classic Nepotism, and it's the stuff that corrodes and destroys Nations and Militaries alike. I had no idea if I was even cut out for service at that time, and even if I did I wouldn't have taken the offer. I love my sister, I do, but I know to seperate sisterly love from my call of duty. I won't be allowing myself to be elevated to some high rank when someone else is far more qualified and deserving."
Mr. Bricks: "And the Army?"
LCPL Rockwell: "Basically the same thing. You have to remember that the RESS, along with the United Americas, was and is a colonial power. As such, the Navy is by and far the focus of military affairs to ensure we can patrol and guard our Colonies. Given that fact, Naval officers enjoy far more prestige than the Land Forces do... and far more influence. If I'd have joined the Army, I would have found myself in some Battalion stationed aboard my sister's ship for sure. Maybe my sister would have 'suggested' me for a medal sometime along the way, too, and had me recommended for a promotion to Corporal or Sergeant. Army wouldn't have cut it either - none of the RESS would have."
Mr. Bricks: "So, let me put this short and concisely: You despised the Nepotism your Sister was inevitably going to be trying to force upon you if you joined your own Nation's Military and thus... you didn't. And instead you came to the USCM?"
LCPL Rockwell: "My Father is the one who had the idea. I mentioned he worked for Weston-Yamada, yes? Well, he had the idea of helping me with enlisting in the Marine Corps. Given that it was out of my sister's reach, and more or less out of my father's jurisdiction and influence as a corporate man, as well, I accepted. He pushed a few papers through, and bing bang boom, there was my green card and my enlistment papers."
Mr. Bricks: "Given that you're not in your Country's Service, what are you really fighting for now nowadays, if not your Country and Home?"
LCPL Rockwell: "I do fight for my Country, and I do fight for my Home and Family. Weston-Yamada is an important tie-in between me and my home, given they're Anglo-Japanese same as I am by blood. That said, the US seems to have a tendency to be a lot more... forward when faced with dangerous insurgents. Notice how the USCM is diving head first into the CLF and UPP? All while the RESS is just chillaxing at the Border? Yeah. I may not wear the Emperor's insignia on my uniform in the Marines, but in spirit I'll always be fighting for Japan. For my Family. Killing Insurgents helps with that, to keep the Galaxy safe. I've never even seen America once in my life so... I won't pretend to be fighting for it."
A few more lines of text are written by the Liaison, concluded with one loud press of the 'Enter' key.
Mr. Bricks: "Right. I think that should suffice for a report. Sorry for holding you up, Miss Rockwell."
LCPL Rockwell: "It's fine. I like talking about home and family. Brings back memories and such. Good times."
The Lance Corporal stands up from her chair, which prompts the Liaison to do the same as he extends a hand over the desk. The two shake hands. Audio feed cuts out.
End log.
4.) Employee Relations
Spoiler:
- Malcolm Schmidt: Hard to really know where to start with him. He's... well, he's just a genuine guy, really. He's only human, like any of us, and he'll let you know whenever he's scared and afraid, in sorrow, otherwise sad, or curious. A brilliant Medic, fantastic squad mate and lovely buddy to have by my side.
- Boris 'Tsar' Romanov: Boris? Hah. Frisky russian guy - almost like you ripped him from some kind of propaganda video about the stereotypical russian man! Jokes aside, Boris is a great friend to have in the Squad. One of THE most capable Engineers in the field, and always up for a good conversation, it seems. I'll need to get him off of his alcohol problem sometime but... besides that, I really can't complain about this guy!
- Elly 'Lizard' Luckwing: Genuinely baffled how she ended up in this hellscape of a Military unit. A Heart so soft you wanna cuddle it and a temper so tame you'd just feel invited to pat her on the head. Elly really is a good listener, and won't falter in the field either. She'll make sure to protect her friends when she needs to, and always makes sure to tell you to be safe. Should probably have that lisp checked out though...
- Gwendolen 'Fair' Folk: Gwen is... an odd character, in truth. I heard stories about her when I met some of the others, you know. Joined the Almayer, and Bravo Squad, and heard about this Veteran Medic they had. Admiral gave her a Platinum Medal for her services personally, they said. When I actually meet Gwen she's... reserved. Most interactions with her will boil down to her shrugging, sighing or otherwise shrugging you off. She's also not one to take kindly to light-hearted humor in the field, and will DEFINITELY yell at you and reprimand you for joking while on a battlefield. That said... I can't help but feel amazed by her professionalism, and her dedication to work. She's in this to win it, and to save lives, and that she does with admirable efficiency and dilligence. Perhaps one day she'll open up to me a little more - show me what's behind that stoic visage of hers - but until then I'll continue poking her with a stick from afar to see what reactions I might be able to stir.
- Cassandra 'Mama' Reed: A Woman focused on the job when needed, but doesn't forget about the human aspect of it all. Fair in all things, or so I believe, even when it's hard choices to make. A capable Leader, who has a definitive vision of what she expects you to do in the field. Great at coordinating people who might otherwise best be described as schizophrenic monkeys.
- Aden Cooper: A brilliant (or, as he would likely describe himself as: 'Dapper') Commander, for sure. When he's at the helm, I feel just a little safer. Just a little. Professional and skilled, and not afraid to deploy when required.
- Juniper Meadow: A real two-face of a woman. Warm and kind, for sure, but also fierce and brave - especially when she's meaning to help or rescue friends. Rest assured, when she's around I know I won't be left behind. She's always got my back, somehow!
- Hyro 'D.Shox' Sasake: Adventurous and, sadly, also quite prone to getting beaten, slashed, shot or whatever else you might mutilate someone with. Friendly and kind at heart, even if it doesn't always show.
- Sonya Jarvenpaa Great gal to hang out and about with. Definitely has my sense of humor, which is nice. Wish she'd ditch the silly beanie for a proper helmet for once.
