    What are the cultists?

I've seen cultists in the xeno hive but I have no idea where they come from or what they are supposed to do

They have to get spawned by an admin, usually they are allied with xenos and will help them kill the marines. They can only outright shoot and kill Marines if they are wearing their special robes.
Karl Karlsson, the man (and sometimes Captain)
    Maxwell, the synth
    Enhath'vot Guan-Dha, the predator
Also a feature Coder & CM's Maintainer Team Manager

Started as some meme RP to justify/bullshit your way into helping aliens and/or admins would do bastard versions of the current cultists and people thought it was fun enough to code in.

The cultists on CM are a lot different than those in lore.

In Aliens: Outbreak, Queen's and the QM are able to telepathically project emotion and imaginary into the minds of sentient beings over vast distances. One particular Queen, which was being held by Bionational on Earth, took note of Salvaje and his religious zealousness when he was working for the company. She coopted his belief system and pressed all the right buttons to stimulate the view that she was his god. Using his already existing wealth, Salvaje created a church (Really a koolaid drinking cult) and brought in new followers, particularly those that were weak minded and easily manipulated, as this allowed the Queen greater control.

In the mean time, the Queen was projecting fear and paranoia over much of Earths population. These acts were far from overt. People suffered from terrible nightmares, poor impulse control, anger issues, and a plethora of other mental and physical issues, all of which could never be traced back to her.

Eventually, when the time was right, the Queen pressed the go button in Salvaje's head and he and his cult stormed the facility to which she was being held at, freeing her and then giving themselves to be infested.
