How would you define yourself? (Coder, Mapper, Spriter): Spriter
If Coder, what languages? N/A, but I do have some experience with MATLAB and Lua.
Any previous experience developing with SS13? Mapper for Yogstation 13 for a short duration in 2016, materials from that endeavor remain hidden in the files of an old computer, nothing impressive to say the least.
Proof of any previous or current work:
How well do you know Git? Over the years, I've only had brief interactions with Git-type platforms, so my experience coming into CM to work on sprites was limited, however I've made an effort to learn the basics and get some practice in using GitLab, and so far I'm 2 for 2 in my posted MR's. I'd say I now know it well enough to be an asset in the spriting department.
Your primary job is server development, not policing the server. You may be given Moderator-level of access but you should *not* be invoking any administrative actions unless there are no moderators or Admins online. Do you understand? Yes
Anything else you'd like to add? To quickly address the previous question regarding moderator permissions, those are really of no use or interest to me as a spriter. My main motivations for wanting to join the dev team are, in no specific priority, as follows:
1) After working with several of the Devs on small or large projects (especially Carlarc) and receiving feedback from Triio on my spritework, I've gotten a lot of helpful, constructive criticism, but mostly praise and encouragement from the devs and other members of the community, which has only made me want to invest more of my time into learning how to make better art.
2) I've been playing CM on and off for about 4 years now (estimate). After recently returning and seeing the current state of the dev team and server, I was beyond impressed. I haven't mapped in a very long time, and I had doubts that my skill in that department would measure up to the quality standards of the server, but I immediately felt the urge to contribute to the server in some way, even if it meant learning something new, like spriting.
3) As I've been told by various devs, certain key sprites are only accessible by members of the dev team, such as the master-branch xeno sprites. In order to access those sprites and pursue larger projects, the first step is becoming a dev, something that I was encouraged to seek to become by those I've worked with.
Lastly, I'd like to add that I'm fully aware that I may be jumping the gun on applying to the Dev team, as I've only just completed my first set of MR's, recently became a contributor, and began spriting just over a week ago. While I may be very new to this, my abilities, thanks to the guidance of Triio and others, have come a very long way in such a short time, and I believe that my relative newness should not be an issue given my rapid rate of improvement, especially given that my sprites often meet or exceed the quality standards. I'm capable, I'm ready to learn, and I'm hungry for more work.
Thanks,
Thwomper.
