    Podrick Equus - Synthetic Application

    Synthetic Whitelist Application
    Personal InformationByond ID?
    Podrick Equus

    Marine Name
    Sergio 'Bucket' Burkett

    Other Whitelist Applications
    N/A

Character InformationName of the Synth Character you wish to play
    Lance

What is your Synths quirk and personality?
Lance is a very curious synthetic. He is fond of learning new things, and will often engage in lengthy conversations with humans to learn more about them, and their opinions on their current situation or jobs.

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?
I think that it would be fun, and I like to think that I'm a nice enough player to be trusted with a whitelisted role.

    Synthetic Character Story
In Operation Silent Descent, Lance was ordered by the Commanding Officer to assist the engineers in constructing a forward operating base at the LZ. While chatting with the squad engineers, a survivor from the colony approached the FOB and asked for evac. Lance relayed this request to command, who then ordered Lance to escort the survivor back to the Almayer and bring them to the CMP, who would take them from there.

During the transit, Lance learned from the survivor that the colony was ransacked by CLF forces and anyone who resisted was shot. The survivor claimed that the resulting infighting over the dwindling supplies left her as one of the last survivors. Lance also relayed this information to command, who thanked him as it matched up with what their marines were seeing.

After Lance handed the survivor off to the CMP, he requested to return to the FOB to resume his previous orders. The CO denied this request, stating that he had new orders for Lance: To assist the shipside engineers in restoring power to the brig, as someone had disabled the APC.

Upon reaching the brig, Lance saw a marine being arrested by the Military Police. The marine called out to Lance for help, stating that the Military Police were unjust in their arrest. Lance informed the marine that he was sorry, but there was nothing he could do.

Lance headed to the brig APC and promptly fixed it, then asked the CO what he would like him to do next. The CO informed Lance that he was free to assist the marines in any way he'd like to. Lance thanked the CO, and told him that he was going to assist the understaffed medical wing of the Almayer.

Over the rest of the operation, Lance learned that in addition to the colony being ransacked by CLF forces, there was also a minor disease outbreak on the colony that has now made its way to the ship. Being immune to diseases, he helps the CMO and research team fight the outbreak by distributing medicines to the afflicted troops.

Upon the operation's conclusion, Lance assisted the remaining troops into their hypersleep chambers.

ExperienceHow familiar are you with Engineering?
Somewhat. I am knowledgeable enough to build and maintain barricades as well as how to repair most basic machinery (APCs, generators, doors, etc.)

How familiar are you with Command?
Very. I have run multiple operations by myself as XO, and know how each command role is supposed to function.

How familiar are you with Medical?
Extensively. Doctor is my most played job, and I like to think that I'm one of the better folks at healing people.

How familiar are you with Requisitions?
Fairly. I know how to do the job pretty well, and I enjoy prepping the marines with all sorts of goodies in their supply crates.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.
Synthetics are allowed to subdue marine personnel nonlethally, as long as it is in self defense or the defense of an innocent and the marine remains unharmed. Synthetics are allowed to subdue non-human or non-marine threats with lethal force, but they are to prioritize self-preservation and should stop fighting the threat once it disengages or can no longer fight.

Example: I am tending to a marine's wounds in the FOB and a hostile entity arrives and attacks us. I would enage said hostile entity in combat and ensure that it is either no longer able to attack us, or that it flees. Then I would return to aiding my patient. However, if it ignores me and goes for my patient, I would prioritize moving them to safety best as I can first.

ConfirmationsAre you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines?
    Yes

Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
    Yes

Do you understand that you cannot advertise your application on any platform for votes. Do you also understand you may not edit this application 1 hour after it has been posted?
    Yes

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason? Do you have any active jobbans?
    No

Are you currently banned from our Discord, and if so, why?
    No

Other InformationDo you have anything else you would like to include about your application?
Thanks for taking the time to read this. All feedback is appreciated.

This doesn't meet even the bare minimum requirements for a whitelist app.

Character story is a bit short. To add onto it you should show examples of how your synth would roleplay in the actual game, so we can get a better understanding of your quirk and/or personality.
The story also doesn't really read very smoothly, it feels like an AAR instead of a story - it also doesn't tell me how your synth would engage in lengthy conversations or learn about humans through 'curiosity'.

Also, it would be cool to get a little bit more experience with Engineering, particularly the OB cannon system.

It would look better and give us a better understanding if you were more detailed about your engineering, command, medical, and req experience.
I can vouch for your medical gameplay, you have played it a lot

Overall I would recommend you start making improvements for a revised app(redoing the story would be the best option for you too i think)
It's not that you can't be trusted(I'm sure you can be), it's really just your app seems lackluster - see some of the accepted apps for reference on the depth.

    Good luck!

Hello, thanks for your (lack of) feedback. I'm curious as to what these "bare minimum requirements" are, since I could not find any hard guidelines that I have violated in either of these links.

In the event that this application is denied, I'd like to know what you find so blatantly wrong so I can fix it in the future.

The form said to provide a "story of your Synthetics actions and involvement in a previous mission onboard the Almayer." I had thought that an AAR would be suitable for this purpose. I do agree though that this "quirk" was not thoroughly explored during said story. Truthfully, I am not particularly fond of the concept of developing a character I have yet to play through a written form, as opposed to actually playing them.

I apologize, I had forgotten to mention that part. I know very well how to operate the Orbital cannon and its many quirks.

I mistakenly assumed that I wouldn't have to prove my knowledge of those jobs here. My bad. I had thought that most folks would comment on if they've seen me perform those jobs well or not.

Thanks for your comments! I had wanted to fill out this application without looking at other forms because I didn't want to "cheat" so to speak. To put it as someone else said, to "spearhead myself" by my own merit and knowledge alone.

That said, I might consider taking this down if the feedback continues to be mostly negative.

This looks really low effort at face value but you can make a comeback. Get some synths to vouch for you.

Can you write a dialogue of your synth speaking to a grieving marine? Maybe their wife died, fellow soldier died, lost their leg, who knows. Be creative.

I recognize your name during one of my many session playing SEA and teaching people. You were alright I suppose, No particular comment on skills just that I don't recall you doing anything bad or exceptionally good, I'll observe you if I see you in the round. Have a CM day!

As far as a synth vouch goes, I had received this comment from Felix. I haven't had the chance to ask many other synth players lately.

And as for a dialogue, here is something I came up with just now:

    ---

    "Please, hold still."

There's not much to be said when a human is beginning their death throes. Lance placed his hand on the poor fellow's shoulder, positioned in the back seat of the speeding van. He looked towards the driver, urging him to hurry.

"I'm drivin' as fast as I can," exclaimed the driver, "but I don't know if we'll make it in time!"

    Lance nodded, "I see."

Turning his attention back towards the dying marine next to him, Lance contemplated on whether it'd be best if he should try to keep him conscious or not. As fate would have it, the marine made that decision for him by widely opening his eyes and sitting up with a sudden moment of clarity.

"I need to go back! My friends... they need me!"

Lance knew from merely looking at him that he was in no condition to return to the fight, much less stand up. Perhaps if he kept the marine's attention... "Your friends will be fine. Can you tell me their names?"

The marine coughed, trying and failing to raise his bloodied arm to his forehead, "I... ah... Gerhard... and Emily... Richard too..."

"There, there. What are they like?"

The marine closed his eyes and breathed haggardly. "Gerhard is... smart... wise... most cautious man I've ever met..."

Lance moved his hand to lift up the marine's chin to keep his airway open. "If he is as you say, then he will surely survive."

"And... Emily... she's always been a sweetheart to us, even though..." he tapered off, passing in and out of consciousness.

Lance gently shook the marine, "She must be worried about you, then. It seems to me like it would be important for her to see you again."

    "Y-yeah..."

    "And what of Richard?"

The marine's fist clenched for a moment. "That... righteous prick... owes me..."

Seeing that the marine's torso was still bleeding through the bandages, Lance tore off part of a nearby spare uniform and wrapped it around the marine to stem the blood loss.

"Owes you, you say? What does he owe you?"

"He..." the marine coughed again, "...owes me a new mug... he... broke my f-favorite mug..."

Lance nodded, "I see. If it would be of use to you, I have a mug that was issued to me despite my inability to drink from it."

The marine shook his head, "No... but thanks..."

The van suddenly halted to a stop. "We're here!" shouted the driver, who quickly exited the van. Lance could hear him yelling for a medic.

Lance made some last-minute adjustments to the marine's bandages. "Your friends sound like interesting people. I hope to meet them."

The marine's face was pale, and his eyes were closed, but he somehow still managed to speak. "Yeah... I love 'em... they're..."

Lance waited for the marine to finish, but he never did.

    I briefly heard of an event Podrick was a part of, and from the way it sounded, players were really enjoying it and had fun. This is a core of synth to me, so I think;

-Although the story was a bit lackluster, the second story was briefly enjoyable aswell.
+The event Podrick was a part of improved based on his ability to roleplay.

    I'm weighing a fat +1

Short story that doesn't meet the expectations at the start of your application (it doesn't show the personality nor does it show how your character will play out in a more nuanced interaction). The dialogue also doesn't really help with that either because it doesn't fully create a curious personality.

You best not only study other applications in the future, but you have to drive yourself to show that you are going to be a good Synth and not just adequate.
