Blizzard has officially released the Burning Expedition expansion for World of Warcraft. We got a glimpse of that with a brilliant new trailer in the BlizzCon 2021 remix content and confirmation that it will be released this year. There's even a joke or two if you pay attention.
Originally released in 2007, the expansion focuses on an evil faction called the Burning Legion. You travel to an area called the Outlands, "flee the evil marauders roaming the Infernal Flames Peninsula, dive into the depths of the Zangarmarsh Swamp, manage what lies beneath and confront the demonic agents of the Burning Legion in the shadow of the Black Temple. "as explained in the released press release. You can join the upcoming battle as a Blood Elf or as a Draenei. Blood Elves seek a new "source of arcane power that once sustained them" and ally themselves with the Horde. The Draenei, meanwhile, are exiles from the Outlands and are part of the Alliance.
After the opening section of Blizzard, we get more information in the deep exploration panel. You'll be able to grind Blood Elves or Draenei in the pre-extension patch. Just like World of Warcraft Classic, the content of Burning Expedition will be gradually removed so that you won't have access to it.
Currently, the expansion is divided into five phases.
Karazhan, Gruul's Den and Matheridon's Den Raid
Caves of the Temple of the Serpent and Storm Fortress
Battle for Mount Hyjal and Raid of the Black Temple
Zulman
Samwell Tray
It's also up to you to decide whether you want to continue with the World of Warcraft Classic movie or continue with The Burning Expedition. If you prefer, you can access your character's previous snapshots so you can play on both at the same time. You can also upgrade your character if you want to play with your partner.
We don't have a more precise release date at the moment, but we know it will be released this year. Blizzard has also confirmed in the Deep Dive group that Beta "is coming soon". So if you're interested in WoW, this will be good news for you.
