Unhappy Can we please do something about the end game.

Awful game balance aside (yes marines are steamrolling atm, that's not what this is about) I'm sure devs will work out techwebs and the ground game balance.
I don't really care who wins or loses, I want to have fun. The current endgame is just a boring chore.
Specifically Xenos boarding the Almayer. Xenos last stand options could also use some improvement but that's for another thread.

Back in the old days, the dropship wouldn't crash. (I'm not suggesting going back to this) It just arrived like normal, and marines would be waiting. With walls already built. With radios, lights, power, everything.
And xenos still won. Because xenos are always the ones in control of the game. At any time they could siege the LZ and force the marines to retreat.
The penalty for that of course, was not getting captures, not having many mature/T3 xenos, and not having enough xenos to beat the marines with the defenders advantage.
    That was fun.
    Both as marines and xenos.

This current end game is terrible.
Adding unlimited free larva spawns for xenos is proof of how awful it has become.
Marines being forced to not organize a defense along with losing radio and power makes meta holds at briefing the only viable option.
And because this awful meta was created, unlimited spawning was added to speed up the marines inevitable defeat.

All of this is because at some point it was decided that xeno hijacking should result in a xeno victory and when that doesn't happen it became a sign that something needs to be changes.
Now we have seen the results of having hijacking = victory and it sucks.
For marines, I just go into cryo after evac. Because it's not fun.
For xenos, unless we are cripplingly low on sisters, I tab out and watch youtube until the next round because it's just a mop up.

At this current point I have 2 suggestions.

    1. Allow xenos to optionally end the game after taking control of the LZ.
I don't like this but it would be better than having to wait another 10 minutes to play.
On the computer just give the queen the option to hijack or end the game with a xeno victory. Maybe give the CO/XO the ability to refuse to surrender on there computer as well.

    2. Don't knock out marines telecoms or power, and only break all the lights on the Z level the ship crash lands on.
It's impossible for the marines to coordinate and do anything besides sit behind cades without radio.
I think we would see a lot better end game if marines could communicate.
Optionally I would also allow marines to start building a defense as soon as the queen wrestles control of the dropship but I doubt that would pass.

Thanks for reading, let me know what you think.

I don't know what game you were playing back in the day, but when Marines did this they absolutely fucking stomped xeno's upon landing.

I always wanted CM to move to this, where Xeno's would be an endless swarm since this is what they are actually in Lore.
Problem is balancing endless xeno's against marines doesn't work well when the entire game for years has been centered around the opposite.

100% agree. They need to rework this. I LOVED the last ditch hold at briefing before larva surge was a thing. It was legit exciting as you really had to focus and it was anybodies game, unless xenos had 25-30 or more units or marines had a crippling loss and was forced to evac. But when it was a fair fight, it was freaking amazing.

Since lava surge this has been removed and to push a tight 3 space corridor with 30 marines is just sh*t. It's not exciting, not fun, too many FF, can't move, no tactics just push, it's really bad.

As a xeno it's also super annoying to hold DS and the whole shenanigans to protect DS but also find the last ones hiding in locker.

Like the poster, I also just cyro or even simply ghost and F it. Who cares really, the round is over, no more fun to have. I won't make any difference where ever I alive or not.

That is exactly whiskey outpost and xenos hate it. Sure it is fun as a marine, but I tried it many times as xeno and it's the worst gameplay experience I even had.

Basically that map is saying "Right, let's make the marines have fun, so can you just run in to that cade with 30 marines like an idiot and suicide over and over and over and over and over again until the game ends? Great thanks."

If you want this, use bots not players. And yes xenos get stronger the faster they suicide. But from a fun factor it's 0/10 and it feels like they are looking for idiots to control the baddies while the admin's good guys hold. Yuck.

My suggestion: no idea other than experiment with totally new things. Make it like OP said. Try just giving xenos flat 20 larva at crash. Give marines 100K cash before crash, hell do I know.

But once you tried these changes, tell in admin message to VOTE IN GAME and actually ask the people who played that round one question: "How did you like it?".

Maybe, just maybe if you get 90% downvote you might want to change something.

I would get rid of the Almayer last defense, adding code to make the round end if there is no marine planetside after 30 minutes, could be ruled out by Queen hijacking DS, that way Almayer fights will turn on rare events, not the norm.

Everything about hijack is fine except larva surge. Larva surge was implemented because life boats even though those aren't in the game yet. It will hopefully make sense soontm, but it was definitely implemented at a bad time.

30 minutes is an absurdly long time, and if marines retreat. They redeploy for 2 reasons.

1, to save a huge trapped marine force who could actually make it to the other LZ. Or some other variation of saving someone critically important RP or otherwise I.E. Captain / specialist.
    2. OB / CAS / some fire support obliterated the pushing Xeno force giving marines true and proper second wind.

I mean 30 minutes after round start, not 30 minutes after the last marine leaves planetside, nested would count as alive. If they redeploy to save survivors on secondary LZ then the round obviously still going.

What would it take to have a test round with the above conditions?:

ALL Marine weapons do double damage permanently. Including melee, ranged, explosives, all air support.

ALL xenos do 50-100% extra damage, and/or have double numbers in terms of larva and T2-T3 slots and double evo speed.

That sounds like a speed run set to 2x speed

yup.. end game has suffered... we used to have hangar hold, we used to have SD, we used to have NUKE... we used to have OPTIONS...

right now endgame are less exciting than they ever was.

maybe if we keep old options instead of removing them all we wouldnt be in this situation.

how hard can it be to implement new stuff witout deleting the tested and aprooved stuff?

exemple, how hard would it have been to put lifeboat UNDER SD and so keep SD in game?...

same goes for IO and techweb.. oh well..
