    The Squad Heavy Machine Gunner

Interesting loadout I have been trying lately, it's difficult to pull off but can be a lot of fun when done right. Squadron Heavy Motherfucking Machine gunner.

-Shotgun for point defense in armour slot
-miniflamer on the shotgun for keeping xenos at bay during boiler bombardments
    -belt full of shells
-satchel to carry your bipod, extra ammo and screwdriver
-carry the m56D in one hand
    -a gas mask

Boom you are now a 1 man machine mobile machine gun team. Run up and follow your squad and deploy the m56d whenever situations require extra firepower. Just make sure to get the hang of when and where to set up, and when to start disassembling and running for the hills.

Right now with the new req system we are seeing a boatload of M56ds being given to req, so snagging one is easy. Any PFC can build and deconstruct HMGs, so get to it recruits.

I dunno, a tactic that requires actual skill and pre-planning? Sounds dodgy.

Really though, if it were used properly you could mow down xenos just as they push.

I've found that my biggest problem so far has been boiler clouds and queen screeches. I'd recommend not setting up the MG in open areas where boilers are present unless you have good cover. The key for keeping your MG alive is being able to always man it, or having a flamer keep xenos at bay through the boiler clouds. Corners are also your friend. They can make boiler gas take extra tiles to get to you, enabling you to keep shooting even when clouds hit near.

It CAN be really effective, but it often isn't simply because of the setup time. It takes too long to put the gun together/take it apart. If it were one piece once assembled, fit on the back/inside a backpack and did NOT require a screwdriver (rather just a single placement timer rather than screwdrivering it twice), it would be borderline acceptable on the move. But as it stands now, a QFA/Bipod HPR achieves the same thing with a higher RoF and DPS with less setup/disengagement time.

To re-iterate, my ideal MG QoL adjustment would be:

    1. Screwdriver only required to create the MG+Stand assembly in the first place
    2. Fits on your back or in a large enough backpack (not a satchel, but an IMP would be okay)
    3. Placing it takes time, but places the entire gun secured and ready to fire when finished, facing the same direction you're facing - like claymores
    4. Packing it up is the same time (or less) as placing it

Fun fact, you can carry raw ammo boxes on your back, which is around 10 mags worth of bullets. Req always has one to spare now with ASRS.

In real life, a single machinegun required a crew of men to operate effectively.

Thus, if you want to bring on the pain with the M56D on the front lines, you need to form a machinegun crew of 2-3 people. One can carry the bipod, the other can carry the gun, and if you got a third one, they can focus on using the screwdriver to get the gun put together at a RAPID PACE, as well as twist the angle at will. And if you got a pair of binoculars, one player can act as a spotter and give you suggestions where to shoot.

it takes a lot of coordination, but if were able to get such a crew put together, then you gonna have yourself an interesting time.

Honestly it doesn't take that long if you're dedicated and store the items smartly. The gun and first ammo drum fit together so you can carry it in one hand. The bipod fits in the backpack with the spare ammo. Put the screwdriver in a pouch with 1-click removal activated. Then just deploy the items and hit E when you need to put the screwdriver away. I can set up using this with almost no time inbetween actions. MG spotter is honestly better for emplacements in permanent locations. Communicating ingame is slower than doing it yourself.

This should actually be surprisingly fun with the absurd amount of M56Ds that Req ends up with, if people committed to it.
